Guess it’s not common knowledge here yet based on the handful of posts I read above, but Aces also bought Palace in Lakewood and All Star Casino in Silverdale. Palace will be moved to Great American Casino with full Aces renovation.

Thank you for the update.

Maverick bought those places, but Palace is still running its own system and isn’t part of the Maverick poker database.

Perhaps it will be with the update. It might drive in a little bit of traffic from Seattle players if they can find it in the Maverick app.

Yeah I’m sure they won’t switch over to whatever you’re talking about until they actually become Aces.

What’s up everyone, my name is Marvin and I am currently putting together a Private Invitational Game at Hollywood Cardroom right outside of Seattle. There will be a unique blind structure and modified rules for the game, and players who are invited will get free drinks, comp’d meal, and other invitational benefits.

If you’re interested in being on the invite list, I have a FB group called the “Seattle Poker Invitational” that I will link below. Please join at your earliest convenience as I will be closing registration and giving more info in the upcoming week. Would love to connect, so let me know if you have any questions.

Sup with these private games popping up left and right in the casinos - Caribbean already has like 3 of these.

And who's paying for these "benefits"?

Private games seem to be the future of many Poker Communities as it gives a certain level of control to certain player fields. This is my opinion, but it also shows camaraderie to players who are looking to host home games of their own but still want to enjoy the security/regulatory benefits that a casino provides.

As for Food and Bev comps, those are easy enough to put together with a limited menu but “Benefits” don’t necessarily have to be monetary either. Similar to how people can have “Maverick Status” where the casino makes a game 9 handed for certain players.

LOL ok. Funny it’s hosted in Hollywood. Wouldn’t any game running there basically considered private, because nobody seems to know about them. Kind of like the O8 game that’s running right now. It’s already about as private as it gets.

Funny you are trying to start an invite-only game as if there are going to be players fighting to be in any game in Hollywood. I get the approach…but lol…who are you fooling?

So if you had a 'private' game at Fortune, you could exclude the old people. Do the old Korean guys still play? They'll probably end up warming seats at Fortune for decades still

in order to not waste time and/or possibly misunderstand the floor staff, i was wondering if someone can give me Aces Poker room specifics.

1. Do they do player cards?

No physical cards. They take your ID and fill in your info, and they log you in for points that go toward comps. If you have an Android phone there is an "Aces Poker" app that one can scan at the table. good for comps and such. If you have an iPhone there is a glitch now where the app does not work, but you can tell the floor to log you in for comp points and such.

2. how does their high hand work? (playing NLHE only. MAYBE PLO in the future?)

High Hands are for Hold 'em only, not for PLO. The high hands are 200 for 1st, 125 for 2nd, and 75 for 3rd. They run from Sun-Thurs 10am to 2 am and Fri-Sat from 10 am to 6 pm. Flush qualifier, both hole cards must play.

3. how do they do table changes/seat changes? (just tell the dealer?)

For seat changes tell the dealer, who will give you a seat change button. For table changes tell the floor at the front desk and they will try to accommodate you the best they can.

4. whats their rule on sitting out?

You can take reasonable breaks. Three missed blinds applies here, which is fairly standard, or if you bust out TELL THE DEALER YOU WANT TO RETURN. If you bust out and have no money at your seat and choose to wait, after 10 minutes, then they will sell your seat.

5. how do i get racks to cash out? is it standard to go to the cage?

Racks are available at the front desk and at the cage. Ask around and a player may be near an empty rack, or ask a dealer to hail a chip runner to find you an empty rack. When you are finished you bring your chips to the cage to cash out.

6. how do their waitlist work? are they on an App?

When you arrive tell the front desk you want a hold em seat or a PLO seat and they will put you up on the list. The waitlist can be accessed through the Aces Poker app as well. From the app, click on the game you want (1-3 NL or 1-3 PLO are the games that run the most.) This will put you on the wait list, but you have to go to the front desk and check in before they will call you for a seat. Also, you must arrive and check in within 30 minutes after you click on the seat reserve button on the app. If you arrive at Aces after 30 minutes you will be dropped off the list. Again, the app is flakey for iphone but hopefully they will correct it soon.

7. can I call in to ask to be on a waitlist? or do i have to do it in person all the time and just wait till spot opens?

They strongly prefer that you use the app, but if you call in (425-657-6537) and say it is your first time they may put you on the list. Again, check in once you arrive.

8. how are their player pool?

Typical? Some softies, several regs, the usual mix. It is 18+ so some college kids too.

9. obviously late evenings friday and saturday would be best to play. but taking out those times, what other times/days of the week are usually good at Aces Poker? (I have odd work schedules)

Weekdays at 10 is a surprisingly good time to play. High hands have only one table, and the game can be soft, from what I see. But it can vary.

I tried to answer your questions well. There a not a ton of north end options for Poker. Caribbean on the eastside in north Kirkland, Hollywood Card Room in Shoreline, Jamestown Bar in Arlington, and Aces. I hope this helps.

The room has a lot of Pot Limit Omaha. If you like PLO you will love this. Plenty of action. PLO plays fairly big considering there is a $300 betting cap. PLO siphons of a lot of stronger players and makes the no-limit games a bit easier.

Other notes...The room is new and beautiful for a poker room. The dealers are good, the floors pretty good. The service is inconsistent, as the staffing is not up to speed with the volume of players. The servers do a good job, but one server for eight tables is not a recipe for success.
And the food...well...it is bizarre. They took the time and effort to build an elegant poker room with new everything, then the build a kitchen with strange food choices. No fryers. No grills. So, that leaves hot dogs, flatbread pizzas, some salads, wraps, specific breakfasts (but no made to order eggs, for instance.) the food is a major disappointment.

Oh, and Eric Persson, the owner, who bankrolled this poker palace...his serious face is a) on a floor to ceiling mural on the wall and b) on every chip in play. Really.

Parking is tight on Friday and Saturday nights. Street parking is OK. If you never play from 6am to 10 am the place is open effectively 24 hours (it closes Sun, Mon Tue from 6 am to 10 am, so, like I said, it is basically 24 hours.

Hope this helps.

Anyone else notice poker tournaments increase their entry fees drastically since Maverick took over ? $35+$15 fee, $150 + $50 entry fee is borderline highway robbery.
Impossible to make any money in the long run with those fees. Plus they expect a 10% tip when you finish in the money! LOL

Does Aces Poker and Caribbean go with 8 handed tables to increase the rake/player ? The $5+$3 rake is taking out $240/hr from each table every hour at 30 hands per hour. Averages out to $30/hr to play.

lol. We had these conversations already. Donkaments don’t convert players into cash players, so it makes sense to rake the hell out of them. It’s cute to think one can make profit from these donkaments.

I know the “top” tourney players from the freeroll list. These players can’t turn profit even if rake is $0.

Nobody likes 9-handed tables. Fortune is the same way.

Rake is a dead horse. Don’t like it? Don’t play.

Wasn’t that license forfeited and the property had long been converted to something else? Plus what would be the value if they saw no value near that location by selling Hollywood?

I like 9 handed tables. When someone leaves to smoke for 20 mins it becomes 8, which I prefer less.

Hardly anyone playing live poker prefers 6 handed tables. I think those were invented by online poker sites because more hands per hour holds your attention better.

I agree with everything you just said. I even double checked to make sure that the dealer was not confusing Hideaway and Hollywood (close, kinda similar name), but he was insistent. Especially if no one else heard anything, this is probably some sort of confusion.

Yeah, recs and nits like full tables. I imagine anyone that’s actually good would rather play short-handed as it increases your edge and thus your hourly… by like… a lot lol.

Nits enjoy more free hands to nut peddle - no surprise there. I don't think recs actually like 9-handed, because games are quite a bit slower.

Plus last thing anyone should want is having to sit too close to another poker player. In this context, it's merely "those that don't care" vs "those that rather not."

So if you're a nit and in the don't care group - it might be the only reason why you would want to play 9-handed. And if you're just realizing that it's better to play slower as a losing player, then you would likely fall in the 9-handed group.

Correct. As I said, hardly anyone (is actually good).

In the low limit NLHE games in Seattle area, being a nit is actually close to optimal strategy. Players don’t bluff enough so nits don’t get punished and players call off light on flop and often on turns so nits get value when they hit the board despite their tight image.

I’ve seen way more leaks from young players who try to play GTO against weak players. Being a nit is actually more profitable and exploitative against loose calling stations and LAGs.

As for 9 handed vs 8 handed, 9 handed is better for tight players obviously. And the best strategy in live games for most players is to play tight. And a lot of the time, there is at least one or even 2 players who are off the table doing something else for 20-30 min stretches so 8 handed usually end up being 6-7 handed games where essentially you are fighting for blinds and end up with lots of chopped blinds, which recs hate.
And they take the same rake 7-8 handed as 9 handed so you just end up paying more rake more frequently for smaller pots.
