I looked into the new room today and it's an empty shell, walls and ceilings were stripped down and it looks like they were working on the camera's and wiring in the ceiling. They also installed a door in the front, idk if it's just a construction door or a permanent entryway but they were putting wallpaper up on the outside wall around the door advertising poker. If there's a single door to enter that room it's gonna be a huge logistical nightmare, especially if they're squeezing 27 tables in that room with a single front door. I understand they wanted to cut off the noise from the band, but on busy days with over 100 people waiting on lists, there's no where for anyone to wait since it's right next to the biggest main casino entrance.

IMHO I think this new room will either make or break poker at the Sands. I really don't think it was well planned out. The Carnegie Deli announced they're shutting down, and within weeks they decided to throw the poker room in there. I hope I'm wrong but only time will tell.
Still think they'll open it in March?

According to the floor, yes. Took a peak in early yesterday morning and was happy to see a full construction crew going at it.

My mistake I didn't realize that they had removed 3. I had high hopes when the new room was announced as I'm not a huge fan of the current location in regards to the smoking at the bar and loud screaming in the stadium blackjack area, but it seems more and more like it is being thrown together and not organized very well and will end up being more of a headache than not. As you said only time will tell but I may go from playing twice a week at sands to having to make the further drive and playing once or twice a month at Parx

Per the calendar, looks like the new room will open the week of March 19. No tourneys or hh promos are scheduled that week, except for Saturday the 24th.

During some table talk last week, a dealer told us they’re only going to lose 1 table and be down to 26 in the new spot. Anything to reduce the amount of smoke is a plus in my book.

Hi all,

Can anyone who has played at both Sands-Bethlehem and Sugarhouse, enough where you feel confident in your opinion (at least relatively), give me a comparison between the two --- mainly with a look towards profitability in the cash games = 1/2NL, 2/5NL, 1/3NL etc

Thanks, cheers

R.I.P. Sands

say good bye to The Sands Bethlehem Resort and Casino

and hello to Wind Creek Bethlehem

The Sands was sold to an Alabama Indian tribe

http://www.mcall.com/business/mc-biz...306-story.html

"Wind Creek runs three smaller casinos in Alabama and has recently taken over a couple in the Caribbean. It also runs a greyhound and horse racing track in Mobile, and track and poker rooms in Pensacola and Gretna, Fla."

Closing could take 9 to 12 months to complete and is contingent upon regulatory approvals.

Do you think it'll be 18+ now? I know most indian casinos are but I think that's only if it's on indian land idk.

I would love if it was 18+, but I think the bolded part is true.

Grabbed a session earlier and peaked into the new room. Carpet was being laid, and lighting appears to be much, much better.

This morning, I was told there will be no poker beginning early Wednesday (03/21) morning, until the new room opens on Friday, 03/23 at 5pm.

Nothing on food service nor waiting area, which will likely be outside the room (at the slots).

Table chip wells will contain 14k and players will be able to buy-in without having to hit the cage. Tables will have phone chargers and more leg room.

Looking forward to the new room and having a more secluded area which caters to poker instead of the poker room located right on the casino floor that is for sure. The endless noise of slot machines going off and smoke makes for an unusual "poker room" so this should absolutely be an upgrade if done properly.

So here's the real questions. Is going to be a modern room? Phone chargers at the tables? Legitimate wifi? 10 round or 9? Are we going to hear the BS music they have on the floor along with three slots? Last but not least are we gonna stink like smoke when we leave there? Mainly I'm a Parx guy but do like a road trip now and again. Sands has become very low on that list due to the above factors. Hopefully it changes with the move to a new room.

went here yesterday first time, and man what a great poker room. For those who dont realise already, yall will realize what youre missing when its gone. While i was waiting I saw a lady walk from one slot to another, say “oh poker, how much?” front desk lady tells her the minimum and she goes and sits down at a table. That example maybe wasnt a lot of money, but thats at least $20 post rake going into a poker player’s pocket. 2/5 seemed like a complete dream, and the table of 5/T they had going even looked soft, but wasnt there long enough to play it.

Regs get driven away by the smoke and slots, and the fish end up stopping by on a whim because its in a centralized locatuon

First person I see who gets it. That is why I like the poker room in the center of the casino. It's also right next to the entrance from the mall so the same type of people you just described have even more of a chance to walk by get interested in sitting down. The move will most likely hurt the action. There will be a much higher percentage of OMC and general nits.

I can't believe all the posts in this thread that don't like the current location.

I've played here now for almost 10 years on a regular basis. I loved the location. Not only for the energy in the room but for all of the table games players who come in. Not going to lie, I don't like when they play poker for 20 min. then bac for 30 min. then poker then bac and leave their seat empty for half the time it's locked up.

I don't think the new room will lose the casual player but I hope the room has enough space in between tables as the old one did not.

Ehh I wouldn't worry to much about the action drying up due to the new poker room location. I understand people's logic about having the more casual slot payers or people who dabble in the pits decide to have a go at the poker room but overall majority of those individuals are sticking to the lower limit games regardless. As far as anyone who plays 2/5 + I don't think much will be different just my opinion. Given the updates with embedded phone chargers at each seat, less smoke, and less overall noise I tend to think the benefits will out weigh the couple of fish who bust $100 at 1/2NL before heading black to the pits/slots

Per the floor, room will have 65 inch tvs, phone chargers at the table, more leg room (under table), current wifi is mostly good, and 9-handed play will stay. Will lose one table, down to 26.

Question of food service is still up in the air. Downside is the smoke. While not in the room itself, the waiting area outside the room is a slot area with smoking allowed.

Fwiw, I also like the current location. Nevertheless, I'm optimistic the player pool will not change materially.
