Oceans 11 is kinda far from me although i do want to come up and play soon.

slightly OT, but does anyone know this player?

http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=68790

Just noticed she's a San Diego player, and she's 18th in chips after day 2a of the WSOP ME (262k). Also happens to be top female player in the ME so far.

*shrug* just wondering.

I play at Barona every so often, although I was thinking of going to Village more often because it's closer... only been there once so far..

Does Viejas still spread stud? They had it last time I was there... but may have been a year and a half ago, mostly go to Barona for some reason, maybe the pizza?

Barona has awesome food...that asian restaurant is one of the best noodle houses in San Diego (casino or not). I go to Barona because it's closest and seems to have one of the nicer rooms in town.

Heading out to Viejas tonight, i think. Blues Traveler concert will *hopefully* mean fishy action. we'll see!

I'd be down but would prefer trying to get it running at Palomar or Village. Indian casinos are lame.

Hey guys, heading back to school in SD in a week. How have the games around here been lately?

*repeating post from the other SD Poker Group Thread

If anyone's interested in a low dollar game, I'm thinking about hosting a homegame in Clairemont/PB.

-Open with 1/2 40-100 NLHE cash game
-End with 1 or 2 single table NL tourney depending on everyones' preferences

Have room for two tables, will start it with as few as 7 (between my buddies that play probably have 3-4 already in), as many as 18.

Little about me: casual player, used to mainly play in tourneys in person ($40-$150 buys) and over the past year worked on my cash game at (1/2 or 1/3). Played at many places, but usually have the most luck at Viejas and Hard Rock in Vegas.

PM or reply if interested. Happy New Years!

Where have you been playing lately Chili? I know you were fond of that PLO game at Oceans for a while....

Right now (as in at this moment) I am playing in a deep stack tourney at the Venetian. Am going to try to satellite into the $5k main event that starts Saturday. Played 2/5plo cash last night and made two straight flushes.
I've been mostly at the oceans 5/5 with some sessions at 10/10 when it runs. Not as many hours as I once played. We had a meeting with O11 management last night regarding some upcoming changes in the format of the PLO game. Coming soon.

GL Chili.
I'm still stuck at the 2/2 & 2/3 but will make it to the 5/5 shortly How is that game anyway?

the 5/5 plays way different than the 2/3 (can't comment on 2/2, but i would suspect the same applies there). the 2/3 is a max buy in of 100 bbs. while that is certainly enough to play real poker, you don't tend to get into deep stacked situations as with the 5/5's 300 bb buy in. based on my experience, i'd say the oceans 5/5 plays almost (but not quite) as big as many 5/10 games. probably about the same as a game like the bellagio's 5/10, which is capped.

with deeper stacks, decisions on later streets become much more important than preflop and flop. the depth of the stacks also allows one to play a few more speculative hands as the implied odds are usually there. in the 2/3 game, there are many many situations where is it not profitable to call a raise with such a hand as your opponent(s) might not have enough money on the table to make your preflop call a correct one.

also, as you might expect, the play is generally much more aggressive at the 5/5 (and 10/10). people actually bet and raise with their hands. and the betting is generally more correlated with the pot size. i.e., you typically won't see someone continuation bet $20 into a pot of $100, as you certainly will see at the 2/3 game. in fact, last week at 10/10 i saw a guy move all in on the river for $1560 into a pot of about $400 and was called by a worse hand than his.

good luck getting rolled for 5/5.

also changes to PLO at oceans 11 are in effect as of this past friday:

1/2 blinds, $5 to complete (or limp in). buy in is $200 - $500 with no straddle allowed. the maximum open raise is $15, add $5 for every limper (i.e, the blinds count as $5 total). the effect is to make the game a red chip game. this will ease the stress on the dealers and players to know the pot size.

oceans 11 management has committed to promote the game including posters, reserved tables (likely table #10) for the game, multiple nights (thu - sat), etc.

current discussions also include the ability to run it twice (and maybe 3 times) if a specific pot reaches $500+ and 1 or more players are all in. this is not yet approved, but is in the works.

thanks to jeff hwang for starting this exact game up at the Venetian, which has been steady since last summer.
[side note: i was in vegas this weekend and played 2 sessions of 5/10 plo and 2 sessions of 2/5 plo at the V. there were some really really bad players and some very good players. i won't say which group i think they're both in, but i played with moneymaker and fabrice soulier. good times.]

here are a couple more changes to the plo landscape at oceans 11:

PLO will be displayed on the overhead projector instead of the white erase board. The 10-10 NL or 3-6 limit games will likely be bumped. Fwiw, there is a new display screen coming soon which will hopefully hold even more columns, better displaying all available poker games. Install date is TBD.

A new feeder "work-up" game will be added to the tournament room. Blinds will be 1-1, bring-in is $1, first open raise is $4. This will be primarily a blue chip game with the buy-in being $40-$100. The hope is that this game attracts newer players to learn and grow the game at more comfortably affordable stakes. This game will also be displayed on the overhead screen in the tournament room.

Chili thanks for the great rundown of the NL and PLO games. I've never been an Omaha player because I just can't play high low that well. If it were played high like they do overseas I would definitely give that a go. Either way, this feeder game seems interesting, I might work on my game a little bit and use it as a nice change of pace to the grind.

Do you also work at O11 or are you just a long time reg? They are a great crew but haven't heard of them holding meetings with the players very often...

the plo game is hi only. in fact in the recent meeting with management it was specified that we will not be allowed to switch to plo/8 any more as has been done quite frequently. the game is pot limit omaha straight high.

the new 1/1 plo game is intended for new players, including probably mostly 2/2 and 2/3nl players. the buy in the same range as the 2/2nl game.

i don't work for o11. i have gotten to know most of the floors and some management people just from playing there over the past few years. management was receptive to taking a meeting with us as there are a few of them who really like plo themselves and have championed our cause from the beginning. we just needed to make our voices heard.

ideally, i would love to see a strong player base develop from this new 1/2/5 game so that we can at some point spread a 2/5 or 5/10 plo game. and maybe even a plo tourney someday.

try it out, you will like it and wonder what everyone is doing at nl.
