Lately there has been a 6-12 O8 game running at oceans on Friday nights. It doesn't have a place in the board software so you have to ask about it.

Played today's Pala Deepstack tournament. Structure was fine, but it is absolutely despicable how it was heavily promoted as having a "$20,000 estimated prize pool".

Final prize pool was $9,300, and Pala only set-up around 10 tables, and there were no re-entries, so they obv knew it wasn't going to be more than $10,000 in the pool, let alone $20,000.

Pala has a nice room, and this is an excellent tournament structure, but the rumblings during the breaks make me think that Pala has lost a few customers over this false advertising..

Pala is such a nice and comfortable room, but it is things like this that turn away its customers. On top of what you said, I think it is embarassing that they can't get a game above 2/3 running during a "big" tournament. I know that used to not be the case.

Well, Pala's 2/3 plays like a 2/5 or 5/5 elsewhere.

it's a 500 max buyin and I know on saturday night, there was over 10k sitting on the table in the main game.

For most recreational live players, that's pretty big. It was pretty fishtastic that night, too.

I deal poker back east but am moving to San Diego in a month. Does anybody have any recommendations which poker rooms to apply. Over here theres a lot of underground rooms. Are there not many in the sd area since its legalized at the casinos?

i am not familiar with any small - medium sized home / private games that run frequently. i have heard of some high(er) stakes private games that run regularly, but even those are only a couple times a month or so.

there are so many legal casinos/card rooms in san diego, i think most of the poker action is in legal venues.

read this thread to get a feel for the various poker rooms in sd.

Do people actually not short stack that game, though? And one thing I really don't like about Pala is the button straddle. It just takes away skill and it especially makes the blinds play better.

There were short stackers at the beginning of the night (which were quite annoying). By about 1am there were 4 players 150bb deep+.

Btn straddle was tolerable.

I mainly play at Barona and Palomar. I've noticed how much better the dealers are at Palomar then at Barona. Too many times at Barona, the dealers do things they shouldn't be doing. If it's on first player on the flop, and they ask the dealer who raised pre or to how much, they will invariably tell them. If a player bets and the next to act asks the player how much they have left, lots of times the DEALER will say something like, "he's got roughly x" or something to that effect. If a player asks how much is in the pot, the dealer will be more than happy to give him an approximation. I almost never see this at Palomar. Anyone else feel the same way?

As an aside, there used to be this dealer at Barona named Wang Ki or something like that. Tall, 40-50 year old Chinese guy. Kind of a dee voice. Always talking, laughing, joking at the table. Guess he got fired not too long ago for stealing money somehow. Anyone have an idea how exactly? My guess is he was palming chips from cash tables and that his loud, crazy schtict was just a way of him being able to do this.

Correct. Probably sometime between March-April (?). Have only played there a handful amount of times in past several months, but it was confirmed by other dealers, such as Kyle (who's actually a really good dealer).

Personally, didn't care toi much for Wing Ki. He talked too much and was sort of annoying. Your job as a poker dealer is to deal cards, keep the table in order, keep the game moving and not commenting too much on the game.

How to ruin a poker room? Harrahs Rincon can write the book.

A couple of years ago, when they were located downstairs, they had good staff, regular tournaments, and decent cash game action.

Then the geniuses at the Harrahs Worldwide Domination Network, moved the room upstairs to a windowless office, and the entire poker operation has gone to pot.

They have completely cancelled all Monday to Thursday tournaments. They used to run a Noon and a 7pm each day, which would usually see 4-5 tables.

The poker information on their website has old, misleading information. I'd sure be pissed to read their website today where it says they have two tournaments every day, and make the long drive there and find out that they don't.

I have asked the supervisor there a couple times to update their website, once I was told "they will" and once I was told "the higher ups do it, and it is out of my control". Pretty funny how a poker room as small as Pauma does a good job at updating their website and runs regular tournaments, but Harrahs Rincon can't.

They have a couple really good dealers there. Rita is the friendliest dealer I ever met, and they have a couple other good ones too. Kind of funny how they promote the hell out of the WSOP Circuit Event they run there, but the other 11 1/2 months of the year, poker is an afterthought.

In that area, thank goodness we still have the 3 P's.."Big P" Pechanga, "Middle P" Pala and "Little P" Pauma. But it sure was nice to have Harrahs as another option.

OK..stepping off my soapbox now..

You are preaching to the choir.

Viejas is my #1 San Diego room for tournaments.

Everything from their Morning $40 Donkaments, to their $120 Friday Night Deepstack. MUCH more play than Sycuan for the $, and easier competition as well..

I assume you are talking about cash games.

If that's the case I would say Pala in North SD, Palomar in Central SD, and Barona in East SD..

re: Rincon, considering how much in the middle of nowhere it is, I don't think it's unreasonable for them to shift their business plan completely away from poker and throw in more slot machines.

I mean it sucks, but I don't blame them?

the one time I played a tournament at Rincon I thought they were miserable, so maybe their problems go beyond poker.

I dont play tournaments.

what I mean is the difference in how it is now compared with a couple of years ago. I cant think of a room thats deteriorated more than that there. Shame

Yeah your right. I went there during the WSOP and they had tables outside the main room, I got a little confused and they didnt want to tell me where to go buy a tournament ticket. The place was full of miserable effers!!
