he was all in blind his first 3 hands. he won the first hand with K3o vs. the poor guy who had to call with QQ. he told the chip runner to just standby with several racks. hahaha.

Re: San Diego Poker Group (2)

the 100 buy in game at oceans is a 2/2 game not 1/2 and there 2/3nl is 100-300 buy in. the 1/3nl barona game is a 100-300 buy in game. btw if you want real action head down to chula vista its about 10 minutes south of dtown san diego 50-200 buy in 2/3nl u can make bank here sick action!

At oceans I play the 2/2 for the action. I played the 3/5 a year or two ago for a bit and it wasn't that bad, not surprised it's tighted up a bit with the economy.

As a side note, I decided to skip Oceans this weekend for a change of scenery and headed up to Commerce (ya ya not SD, a little off topic but thought I would just mention it in case anybody gets the urge for some LA poker). The 3/5 game had as much if not more action then the 2/2 at oceans and played MUCH bigger (200 cap). I hit a crazy run and ended up taking $2100 off the table. The biggest difference between the two games (besides the buy in of course) is that when your hitting cards they KEEP calling. As loose as the 2/2 game is on oceans, when you hit a strong run they tend to start folding a little more. There is NO Fear at Commerce...I love it.

I did miss the damn food at Oceans though. It's so hard to sit in a place for 14 hours and eat ****ty food.

Re: San Diego Poker Group (2)

last week when i was there on friday night there were 4 5/5nl games going. that is the most number of 5/5 games i have seen going in a long time.
tales of an economic collapse killing poker have been greatly exaggerated.

i haven't played the 2/2nl at oceans in a long time.....i just can't stand the 50 bb buy in. not much poker to be played there.

blackangler - do you play plo? you should che ch che ch che check it out. friday nights.

I think the economy isn't so much killing poker, but it's squeezing the middle guy. Ill give an example from resturants since that is my career (until I can play poker full time ). High end fine dine is hurting some, but not really that bad. Low end fast food is thriving like CRAZY. Casual dine (middle of the road) is getting squeeezed like a mother****er because people are moving down from casual dine to fast casual/fast food and those that can afford fine dine are a little concerned but aren't hurting like casual dine people. So I think the fish that can no longer afford 3/5 are playing 2/2, the fish that could afford 5/5 can still afford 5/5 (so they arent moving down to 3/5), and whats left are the tough 3/5 players and small pros. Just some thoughts.

As for PLO, I must admit, I have played very very little and but I like how it's taking off in popularity. I think it's much better than limit because with a game like Omaha you have to have SOME fear from the other players. Limit Omaha is just silly. I need to study up a little bit but when I get to a spot where I can build a secondary "donation" roll I will be sure to stop by

There was a 25/50 NL at Palomar tonight. Antonio Esfandiari was in the game, for some reason. It was shorthanded and broke around 11 pm.

Re: San Diego Poker Group (2)

Went to Barona last night. Played in the 2/5 game for like an hour and then it broke about around 11ish. I tried convincing the other two that were left to play 3 handed but one declined. Then tried to flip the last guy for his remaining $38 but the dealer wouldn't do it

Table was pretty soft...effective stacks of around $400-600, though one guy did have ~2k.

I ended up about $300 but it was a good time. I feel a lot more comfortable in that game with ~400 starting stack.

Re: San Diego Poker Group (2)

I just posted a tiny TR on Ocean's 11 2/3 -- not much poker content. Were any of you there last Saturday night (3/21)? I swear I recongnized one guy from a picture on 2+2, but I didn't mention it. I was the woman at table 10 with the bright yellow and black shirt. Enjoyed the night, even though I played terribly and only walked out up $5.

Re: San Diego Poker Group (2)

Was thinking of going and playing live tonight as I need a break from online. I've played Oceans 11 2-2 100 max game a couple of times and the Sycuan 1-2 100 max game once and have heard good things although never played the 2-3 200 max game at the Village Club in Chula-juana.

Anyone have any input on what the best game in this buy in range is? I'm not opposed to going to other places just haven't played anywhere besides O'11 and Sycuan.

Thanks

I've played at Sycuan, Viejas, Barona and one time at Harrah. Sycuan is my favorite. One of these days I need to try O11. I hope I can make it to Sycuan for the padres promotion a lot of fish in the water including myself.

Re: San Diego Poker Group (2)

fyi, my take on San Diego poker rooms...

Card rooms...

1. Palomar, San Diego. 7-8 tables. 3/6 limit kill, 2/3 300 max no-limit, 5/10 2000 max no-limit and "the big game" currently nominally 25/50 plo, 5000 min (but they often play half/half NL or add in Badugi, Triple Draw, Omaha/8, also with different nose-bleed limits and buyins). No alcohol or kitchen, but has "service" runners to get food from numerous local places. All games $5 drop-on-flop, except the big game which is 8-11 per down. Open 9am-2am.

2. Lucky Lady, San Diego. 6-7 tables. 3/6 limit kill, 4/8 limit kill, 2/3 300 max nl, 5/5 1500 max nl. Used to regularly open 8/16 limit kill and it still goes sometimes, have board for 5/10 2000 max nl and 4/8 omaha/8 but they never go. Adjoining bar, kitchen. All games $5 drop on flop except 3/6 $4 drop on flop. Open 9am-2am.

3. Village Club, Chula Vista. 7-8 tables. 3/6 limit kill, 8/16 limit kill, 2/3 300 max nl, 5/10 i think 2000 max nl, 3/6 omaha/8, 8/16 omaha/8. Cocktails on swing shift (but no bar) and kitchen. All games $5 drop on flop. action 24 hours.

4. Ocean's Eleven, Oceanside. 50+ tables. 3/6 limit 1/3 kill, 4/8 limit kill, 8/16 limit kill, 20/40 limit, 40/80 limit, 1/1 40 max nl, 2/2 100 max nl, 2/3 300 max nl, 5/5 i think 1000 max nl, 10/10 i think 2000 max. Also omaha/8 and sometimes plo, not sure of the details. cocktails and kitchen. 1/1 $4 "modified" drop, 2/2 $5 "modified" drop, 2/3 $5 drop on flop, 3/6 was $4 drop on flop last time i played, biggest games are time charged. action 24 hours.

Near Indian Casinos

5. Barona, north of Lakeside. 15 tables. 3/6 limit kill, 4/8 limit kill, 1/2 60 max nl, 1/3 300 max nl, 2/5 1500 max nl. have board for 8/16 limit kill, and it sometimes goes. hotel and food but no alcohol other than inside high end steak house or hotel room service. all games $4 drop on flop, THIS IS THE BEST DEAL IN THE COUNTY. open 24, i believe there actually is action 24 hours. Barona is up a very windy road out in the middle of nowhere. free bus.

6. Sycuan, east of El Cajon. 25+ tables. 3/6 limit kill, 4/8 limit kill, 1/2 60 max nl, 1/2 100 max nl, 1/3 300 max nl, 1-3 spread limit stud/8. have board for 8/16 limit, 2/5 nl but not sure if they actually go. food but no alcohol. all games $5 "modified" drop. Out of town on a two-lane road, watch that "deadmans curve" above their golf course. open 24, i believe there is not always action 24 hours. free bus.

7. Viejas, east of Alpine. about 15 tables, 3/6 limit kill, 1/2 100 max nl, 2/3 300 max nl, 2/5 i think 1000 max nl, 1-4 spread limit stud/8. They also might have 4/8 limit, 8/16 limit, im not sure. food and alcohol. all games $5 "modified" drop. right off i-8. open 24, i believe there is not always action 24 hours. free bus.

Far Indian Casinos...

8. Valley View, near Valley Center. Only been there once, last week. they had .50/1 100 max nl. This is demo site for "poker-pro" poker machine tables, no dealers, cards or chips. food and alcohol. The one time i was there they had trouble getting one table open. Valley Center is way out in the country east of Escondido. assume open 24 hours, but also assume no action lots of that time. $3 drop, no dealers to tip. free bus.

9. Harrah's Rincon, near Valley Center. Never been. hotel, food, don't know about alcohol. free bus.

10. Pauma, Pauma Valley. Never been. Heard this is a very small room that does not always have action. Pauma valley is also way out in the country northeast of Escondido. might have a bus, might have alcohol, i don't know.

11. Santa Ysabel, north of Santa Ysabel. Never been. website says this is a 4 table room which opens fri-sun at 4pm. website says alcohol and food. Santa Ysabel is way, way, out in the mountains. no bus.

12. Golden Acorn, near Campo. Never been. I believe that website used to say it was about 4 tables and open only on weekends, like Santa Ysabel, and they have alcohol. Campo is way out east of the city, but casino is also a truck stop right off i-8. they have a bus, but i think it leaves casino before the poker room opens.

Honorable mention...

13. Pala, i think Pauma Valley. Never been. website says they will open a new poker room in may.

14. Pechanga, Temecula. Technically Temecula is in Riverside County not San Diego. about 70 tables. Went once, last week. they had 3/6 limit kill, 4/8 limit kill, 1/2 100 max nl, 2/5 400 max nl, and 3/6 omaha/8 i think going. was led to understand that bigger limit games and 5/10 with higher max game regularly go at night. hotel, food and alcohol. all games $5 "modified" drop. $2 bus from San Diego gets you $10 food comp. sure there is action 24 hours.

All the cardrooms, and the 'hoods around them, I consider save and sane to visit. I always park on the street, but they all have valet for the paranoid. The Indians are all out by themself out, more or less, in the middle of nowhere and have free parking lots and valet.

enjoy!

Re: San Diego Poker Group (2)

Im not sure if you consider 8-16 mid or low, but I've been playing that one lately. I don't even bother midweek as they have one table going with all mostly rocks. Weekends isn't bad, they will usually have 3 tables of 8-16, but with the chain style must move it can get annoying. Seems they do cater to the NL players nowadays, opening tables a bit easier, I suppose I gotta wait for limit to come back a bit....

Has anybody played in the weekly Palomar NL tourneys? I'm at UCSD and wouldn't mind having some B&M to play on the weekends.

Re: San Diego Poker Group (2)

I don't play tourneys but I am happy to help out a fellow alumni...

mon-fri: $20 buyin gets 30 initial blinds, 20 minute levels, $20 rebuys first 20 mintes, no fees and $500 added, I BELIEVE THIS IS THE BEST DEAL IN TOWN ON TOURNEYS, 36 players max with a few alternates usually seated, at least 6 paid (depending on #players and rebuys), the players almost always chop at end.

sat, sun: $30 buyin (including $5 fees, $5 to tip pool), $20 rebuys first hour, $20 addon (might be for more chips than rebuy, i don't know), $2000 guaranteed. Otherwise the same.

signup around 9:30am, start time 10:00am. Lately they have been running full.

enjoy!
