the 10/20 ha has been dead the last few weeks (and possibly longer than that but I was in Vegas so idk). its been 5/10NL then 300/600mix. the only 10/20 that gets off the ground is the private caldean game, but sometimes the caldeans will play 5/10 before their private game starts.

which oceans reg expressed interest? my roomie has been playing the oceans every weekend and he would probably be interested. PM me who that is. Sending PM now.

we were able to get a mix off tonight at palomar, albeit 4handed. ran from 4pm until 9pm. 20/40 o8/badugi/2-7td/ and 5/10PLO (100bb cap).

aiming to make this a regular weekend occurance, either every saturday or every sunday, whatever gets more traffic.

mix will typically include draw games as a core and then everyone picks a game to add into the mix.

We're playing 20/40 2-7 Triple Draw at Ocean's again today as far as I know. Don't have 2 ppls #s but they said they'll be there so I'm sure they will. A couple Oceans regs have said they'll be there but I wouldn't count on those 2. Clayton I'll txt you in a second but I'm planning to get there around 4, last week I recall us all getting there around that time and starting the game shortly after.

I got wasted last night and have a pounding headache so if someone yesterday asked me about the game and I don't contact you today sorry.

Barona Trip Report:

Moved to San Diego on Tuesday, and headed out to Barona that night around 6PM with my brother. He called ahead and got our names on the list. Got there around 6:30PM and the room was packed to the brim. 15 tables and every seat (9 handed per table) was filled. There were also several people milling about, waiting for their name to be called. I was about 10 names down on the $3/$6 LHE list and even deeper on the $3/$6 O8/B list (there was about 5-6 $3/$6 LHE games and only one $3/$6 O8/B going). After about 40-50 minutes I got on a $3/$6 LHE table.

Most of the dealers were wearing Barona white T-shirts and all the dealers I had were fairly fast and efficient. All the tables had auto shufflers, which was nice. The $3/$6 LHE was a full kill game, where the kill went into effect anytime a player won 2 consecutive pots in a row, regardless of the size. They drop $1 for the jackpot, and if the pot gets big enough, they take $2. Think the rake was $4 max at 10%, but could be wrong about that. My brother was telling me a lot of players play for the jackpot there (was at $60,000+ at the time). Tough to beat the game in the long run though with the amount of rake and the jackpot drop they take.

Was the first time I'd played LHE in several years, but I quickly adjusted to the game. Won a pot early on with AK on an A high board. Few hands later, flopped two pair in the BB with 34, then turned a full boat. Guess during evening hours (not sure the exact times), anytime a player gets a full house (with both hole cards playing), the dealer picks an envelope out of a basket for the player. The envelopes have 2 chips in them, ranging from 2 redbirds ($10) to 2 blacks ($100). The promotion goes until all the envelopes are gone for the night. I got 2 green chips ($50), so was a nice boost. Also, you can pocket the chips or keep them in play.

The play was usually 3-6 handed per flop, with fairly few raising pre. One hand I raised pre with KK in early, got a player to 3 bet all in for $9, an Indian lady cold calls and I 4-bet and she calls. Flop was J-9-x with a two flush. I bet and she raised. I just called. Turn was a brick. I check, she bets and I call. River completes the flush and goes check, check. She ended up having QQ. I get KK later on and get them cracked on an A high flop vs. two apparent regs who both had Ax. Get QQ very next hand on a 9-x-xcc-A-A board and win vs. Asian lady's K9. I bet flop, checked turn and called her bet on river. I win a nice size pot vs same Asian lady not soon after, when I raised her limp pre-flop with K9cc and flop the pair + flush draw on a A-K-xcc board and river the flush. Other big hand I win was when I flop the nut straight on a 5-6-8 board in the blind. I lead out on the flop, other Asian lady who limped from early two bets it, the Asian lady from the K9cc hand 3-bets and I cap it. Turn is a 4. I bet, Asian lady limper raises, the Asian lady to my right flats and I raise and both call. The Asian lady limper asks dealer to pair the board. River is of course another 4. I check, Asian lady limper bets, other Asian lady calls, and I call. My 79 is good, so I guess Asian lady limper had two pair on flop. Other Asian lady had 87 for a turned lower straight. End up cashing out $155 (bought in for $60) plus the $50 for the full house I had.

My brother was still playing, and seeing as how he drove, I decide to get in on a $1/$2 NLHE table. Buy-in short for $60, as my bankroll isn't that high at the moment. About ten hands in, I get KQo in LP. Couple limps, and I raise to $12. Get like 3-4 callers. Flop is K-T-x, checks to me, I shove, and a kid who couldn't be much older than 18 or 19 check-calls my shove. Turn and river are blanks, I show my hand and am good. Bleed some chips back down to about $60 or $70 when I pick up AQo OTB vs. a few limps. I raise it up to $15, get two callers. Flop is A-2-2. Checks to me, I bet like $18, and kid from previous hand makes some stupid small raise, and I shove. I show my hand right away, and as the dealer is burning for the turn, I tell him if he has me beat, to show it and not slow roll me. He turns over A7o (lol at limp calling from EP with A7o) and of course the turn is an A and we end up chopping the pot. At this time my brother is ready to go, so I cash out like $73 from my $60 buy-in.

Overall, room was pretty good. The $1/$2 table I was at only had like 1 or 2 other competent players and was generally passive and loose. Room died down some by 8:30 or 9, seeing as it was a Tuesday night. My check out Sycuan tonight. Anyone play at Sycuan lately?? How have the games been?

Played at sycuan for about 8 hours of LO8 tonight. I have to say the new poker room looks a lot nicer then the last. I'm a pretty big fan of barona but sycuan had more tables and less wait, especially for LO8. Not really much to say about the play, it is worse than the five cent ten cent full tilt tables etc etc.

anyone know how their comps are comparatively for poker players?

If I am vacationing in the N San Diego/Escondido area where would be the best and closest places to play Limit Holdem and Omaha 8 for mid stakes (8/16, 10/20)?
I am thinking I will play out at Oceans 11 and make a trip up to Pechanga? Are those places good for what I am looking for?
Should I try Pala, Pauma and Harrahs Ricon as well?
Thanks for any info.

Fellow MNer in process of relo to SD. O11 8/16 generally a loose passive CP game, but can be maniacs at times. kill pots really encourage this. I expect we'd recognize each other tho its been over 3 years since I was a heavy reg at CP and you prefer RA? I won't be out there the next week or so as the Mrs is in town. Enjoy.

sad news on the palomar 20/40 mixgame front; looks like its gonna be hard to get a consistent game going there as long as the big mix is in town.

there just aren't enough tables to allow for a smaller mix to run, and on top of that palomar doesn't want to spread a 20/40mix unless there's a full 5/10NL already going so as to please their general customer base.

we (the 5 people trying to start the game) were offered a table at 6pm today (Sunday, the allotted day to try this). I dunno if thats the best thing longterm to have the regular game Sunday nights. In our case we had already left by 3:30pm after busting the tournament so we just played a friendly homegame instead.

If there's interest in a game starting on Sunday evenings I guess I can keep putting the word out by text messages, otherwise we may have to try another locale.

Pala and Harrahs do not run the games you are looking for. Pala is primarily NLHE (1/2, maybe 2/3) with an infrequent 3/6 LHE game , and Harrahs is primarily 3/6 LHE with maybe one 1/3 NLHE game. Never been to Pauma, but I hear it's a really really small place.

Looks like I will be spending most of my time at Oceans 11 and Pechanga for mid limit holdem.

Pauma is tiny. There are a couple bj tables and pai gow. Their couple poker tables are off to the side with literally zero games running at all the few times I have been there.

Nice. The only one of those I haven't been to is Lake Elsinore. How big is their poker room?

Small. Maybe 15 tables. I was there on a Monday night. there was a tournament with about 40 runners, and from what i recall there were a couple of Limit games going, I seem to remember a 2/5 game, and then a 2/3 main game and a 2/3 must move. Play was pretty soft at the 2/3 game.

The only bad thing was the 2/3 played with all $1 chips. Really slowed the game down.

Ugh...that's terrible. Morongo was the same way when I played there, but that was a few years ago. Not sure if that is still the case.

I noticed you didn't have Palomar on your list. Haven't made it there yet? The place is a sketchy hole in the wall.....but the action is great. Barry Greenstein and Tim Phan were playing a mix game one table over from me on Sunday when I was there.

ok, in spite of my earlier post we are gonna give the palomar mix another try this sunday. since theres no big tournament there should be a few tables open at around 1pm. definitely 4 or 5 tablestarters guaranteed so hopefully a full game.

if this sunday fails (ie cant get a table) then I lose all hope for palomar 20/40 mix until the big game leaves town.
