I'm going to Jamul on Wednesday, and I'll be in the tournament on Saturday. The always innovative Norman Chad will also be in attendance

Came in to post that.
Hopefully that bodes well for my chances of getting some PLO or mix action going.

I called Jamul to inquire about the 25/50 game and they said there are no games running at all and the room doesn't open until Monday

Currently no daily 5/10 NL in all of San Diego, correct? Best places right now for 2/5 and 5/5 NL?

O11 typically has multiple 2/5 games from morning onward. Keep your eye on poker atlas app.

I played at Jamul today. They had a nice turnout(60+) for the satellite for Friday's tournament. The casino and the poker room are nice

Re: San Diego, CA

jamul trip report before i go back to self-banning myself from 2p2 :

played the 550 donkament (mincashed it, woo) and some 5/5NL (500 min, 2k max)

pros: dealers were better than expected for an opening event (90% were competent handshuffling), the food i had at the pub upstairs (loft 94) was very good, good beer selection upstairs... some of the tournament tables were up there so that made it easy. I personally like the 5/5 structure more (it's 500 min 2k max as opposed to 7mile 200min 1kmax). the floor is full of experienced people who know how to run a room, some used to deal at 7mile or run lucky lady. attitude was very much "we will try to run whatever game you all are interested in playing" whereas 7mile is corporate "these games run on these days" 99% of the time. they will still need some time to get every dealer fully trained, tho.

cons: their dealer push schedule was out of whack, had some dealers not get pushed for a couple hours. the ppl at the front desk didnt know how to use the waitlist software so ppl on the floor were overextended trying to do everything at once. the chip running infrastructure is totally broken imo, theres no cage, you give the floorperson money and they eventually get you chips and u cant tip them. seems real dumb/slow/unnecessary. TV placement is a little suboptimal, some TVs are too high up the wall. food/drink service on the actual poker room floor seems nonexistant, i know service was actually there but there prob needs to be more of a presence for the amt of ppl who were playing that day. edit... also too many of the shuffle machines were busto.

but all in all given the chaos/incompetence that usually is expected with an opening week, jamul passed w/ flying colors. i hope they eventually become a good complement to 7mile for ppl like me who have a decently short commute to both.

Re: San Diego, CA

what was the room used for before poker? the answer likely explains the TV locations and the lack of a cage.

note to regs: start to carry chips in your pocket and sell to each other at the table, it'll save time and headache and keep fish happier.

Thank you for the review.
I’ll be keeping an eye out for a mix or Omaha on Bravo.
I have also emailed them to see if they will assist in making a regular plo or plo8 day.

Re: San Diego, CA

a couple people have asked for mixed games recently... if you are interested, PM me what games, stakes, and formats you like and I'll see about organizing a game for us.

Silverware: no regular running games, although O11 has a 5/5 half/half big bet (PLO and Big O) that runs on weekends.

Re: San Diego, CA

I've been checking Jamul on bravo occasionally and it seems like 2/3 is the biggest game running and they often have 0-1 games running. Any effort being made to get a bigger game going there? I heard a certain vlogger was trying to get a 5/10 nl game going.

Re: San Diego, CA

i'd play if it ran.

it would be cool to eventually get a big bet mix game going there too (like NL+PLO+BigO and go from there) but the dealers prob need more training.

i think multiple people have reached out to Jamul, the big thing is you need the player base to follow. just getting a few people from 2+2 isnt gonna work, you need people skilled in getting peoples phone numbers and getting a game going. there is a certain someone who got that barona game going who comes to mind; you need people with that skillset if you're gonna make it work.

Re: San Diego, CA

Clayton and all,

i'd like to get more involved in getting people together for these kind of games. I live in actual San Diego, so it would really be nice to get PLO/BIGO running here and not have only O11 dominate that front. You're right, it is tough getting people to come out. I can only think of myself and maybe two other people I could drag out to play such a game. 5/5 NL+PLO+BIGO rounds would be perfect!

I'm in for helping start the above game even though my big o experience is playing twice at oceans. Jamul seems like the only logical place to do this; anyone know if they're going to be accommodating to starting games like this?

Re: San Diego, CA

i sent john r (jamul floor) contact info to jordankickz.

they will deffo be accomodating, the big thing is making sure they have a dealer trained for it. if you give em enough notice i bet they can make it happen.

i'd be down to help get the game going assume work isn't crazy.

I live in PB, I'm def down to play but i'm not sure i can be a starter, i'm a casual at 7mile. For me personally, just getting there is gnarly.

Re: San Diego, CA

If you live south of the 8 and are interested in 2/2 or 2/3 Big O.... HMU. Looking to start a game at LL or one of the Indian casinos.

Basically, if you like heavy action fun games, have a moderate bankroll, and don't want to drive all the way up to O11 -- then I'm willing to organize and facilitate a game for us.

I live in Mt Helix and would certainly be a regular if it ran down this way.
Unfortunately, between business and five kids I wouldn’t be able to commit to being a game starter on a certain day and time.

Re: San Diego, CA

Hello,

My name is John, I am the Poker Manager at Jamul Casino. I just wanted to reiterate and confirm some of the discussions in this forum. Yes we are a new room, and are going to have some growing pains which comes with opening a new room. But I can assure you, Jamul Casino and I are committed to being a player friendly room open to listening to what our players want. I am open to hosting games within reason. I am available 24/7 and open to giving the San Diego Poker Community another option. We have just announced partnership with the Ante Up Poker Tour in September and have a three day series coming in June. You can reach me at John.rochfort@jamulcasinosd.com for any questions or concerns you have. If you are interested in a specific game at a specific time please send me your contact information. I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Re: San Diego, CA

I played 2/3/5 at Jamul a week or two ago and it was great. I like that structure a lot. I think the buyin was 300-1000.

There's a cool bar next to the poker room with a nice view and outdoor seating but it closes way too early
