If you plan to play at 7M, then Chula Vista area is where I'd look.

Eastlake (east of the 805 freeway) is a newer planned community.

Or, you can look near the Bayfront if you want something close to the ocean.

There aren't really any beaches in Chula Vista. If you want beach living, then you can drop down to the south, Imperial Beach, and find some places that don't cost millions. But, frankly, IB isn't the nicest beach in the world -- but still, it's ocean and sand and waves.

Just inland is Bonita, it's a little tucked-away horse community that surrounds a golf course. It gets pretty expensive in there though.

I do have a friend who is a local broker, if you want I can give you his info.. just PM me. He is 100% trustworthy.

Anyone know what games are spread at Pala on Fri and Sat nights?

I get flown out to Harrah's in Valley Center 3x/year, but their room sucks, so I usually make the drive to Pechanga and play 5-10.

Does Pala have a decently big 2-5+?

I see that Oceans is opening a new Limit area on August 1st, which will include 2/4 Limit tables with a DOUBLE race for the points promotion (only applies to limit games) for the month of August. I know the 2/4 L tables are popular at Pechanga.

Wonder if any grinders will be at the 2/4L tables beginning August 1st with the reduced rake and $10/hour promo dollars and trying to hit the jackpot on the side?
pretty sure if u grind 2/4 limit live ur not allowed to have a stu ungar profile picture. just sayin

I've never seen anything other than 1/3 run at Pala, and I don't think Pechanga spreads 5/10. They do have 5/5 with no cap that runs during peak hours. They're both on bravo FYI

Occasionally like on Friday and Saturday nights at Pala, there will be a 2/5 game going that is actually match the stack. So the game gets bigger than your normal 2/5.

I think the 5/5 game at Pechanga is 500/1500.

I live in San Diego and I am just now hearing of Seven Mile. I don't get to play live much but I might try to check it out this week.

looks like 7mile has changed their main NL game from 5/10 (300-3k) to a couple games of 5/5 (200-1k).

it makes a ton of sense from a cardroom economy standpoint but it obviously sucks if you're a 5/10+ player, sorta limits your choices if you can't be bothered with 5/5.

Yes, Johnnie Vibes a local vlogger reported on that development a few weeks back. Said a lot of the former 5/10 regs have gravitated to PLO

7mile is in kind of a weird spot because of their limited # of tables. i think they have the player pool to support a feeder table for 5/10 PLO in addition to a game of 5/10NL, but there's only so many tables. plenty of ways for them to open another 2/3NL or 3/6LHE or something.

my hope is that they expand (they bought all the land next door and will bulldoze it i assume) and get a few more tables in there. maybe could add some more feeder tables or an even bigger game.

but right now it sorta sucks for 5/10. if you're not there at like noonish, you run a real risk of being like 9th on the list and you probably arent getting into the game for 4+ hours. and in the meantime you'd have to play 2/3NL or something. if you're pro it's probably not a huge deal, just wake up earlier, but for people with jobs looking to play a little bit of cards when their work day is done it suckssssssss. you show up and every game is filled and waitlists are infinite. so you don't bother showing.

there's definitely a market, they need to expand, make San Diego poker great again etc

Yea, bad as in it doesn't exist and they refuse to spread it.

5/10 PLO exists, thats a game you can show up and play everyday at noon or whenever it starts. no guarantee that it will last tho, some days it runs until 4am and some days it breaks at 3pm.

I was under the impression that 7M was still willing to spread the game, but the player pool just wasn't filling it any longer?

So I went to 7M yesterday. It's a nice place but small, def needs to expand a bit more. I played $2/3 for a couple of hours and left with a profit but the day did not start good at all. They started a must move game and we do the table draw and I'm the button and i get KK first hand. Two limpers, raise to $30, reraise to $130 and its finally my turn, jam it in for $240, fold from the SB and then BB calls, limpers and original raiser fold, CO calls. CO has JJ, me with KK and BB has 77 and wins with a 7 on the flop. Down $200 on the very first hand I ever played at 7M. The rest of the day was better as I got KK two more times and held against AK and then AA against AK that was played for stacks. 99 on a K96 flop let me take the rest of a another players stack and I called it a day after that, had to pick up my kids. Overall good experience and the $2/3 game feels pretty soft and I only had maybe one or two hard decisions over the course of the two hours I played.

in johnnievibes recent video he talks about how a 5/5 game had every player wanting to raise the game to 5/10 and the floor said "we are not spreading 5/10NL any more"

something i thought about last night... 7mile could really benefit (imo) from a 1/2 PLO game with a $5 bringin

only PLO game in town is this 5/10 game that plays huge. could use a smaller game to increase interest in PLO. it should draw pretty evenly from every other game in the cardroom and i dont think it would vulture the 5/5NL that badly.

gl getting it started on account of their floor being obdurate but i think its a great idea.

I tried to start one a year or two ago. I couldn't drum up enough players.

Palomar had 2 5/5 PLO tables running every week-end with lists. There is plenty of interest in the game in SD, it’s just that outside of 5/10 at 7M and games at O11, no room wants to spread anything different.

You don’t need to drum up interest, you just need to advertise to players that the game is going to be spread on a certain day and time. Within a month, the game will be packed. Not saying running 24/7, but definitely consistently.

PLO players don’t go to card rooms in SD hoping to start a game anymore. But let them find out if a new game being spread somewhere and they’ll come out

Any recommendations for furnished living accommodation near 7 Mile? Or a roommate spot that's available. I may have to find a place to live in the next week or two if my current situation falls thru. I play primarily online but would play sessions at 7 mile, I'm young clean and educated. Can see more at my pg&c.

Hey guys, staying in Gaslamp in SD in late Feb/Early March. Wanting to play some pokies while I'm there.

2 questions, since I've done a good amount of research on my own...

1. Where is the best place to play poker in SD within an hour of the Gaslamp?
2. Where is the best place to play poker in SD within 15-20 (Uberable) minutes of the Gaslamp?

Strictly referring to low/mid limit cash, could not care less about tourneys.

Within an hour of gaslamp, you have five options:

Lucky Lady, Seven Mile, Oceans 11, Sycuan, Barona.

Lucky Lady is a small cardroom with a handful of tables about 7 miles from gaslamp. The room is not great, the ambiance is meh, but it's close and they will have at least one 2/3 NLHE game running daily. If you go, visit Pho Hoa across the street for amazing soup (ambiance is also meh, but trust me on the soup).

Seven Mile is also a small cardroom about 7 miles from gaslamp (hence the name "Seven Mile"). This used to be Village Club, but the owners bought up a Soup Plantation and El Torito and have converted the two restaurants into a really really nice card room. Food is good, staff is good, ambiance is good... and action is hot and heavy. This would probably be my choice for you and it fits your uberable requirement. The only downside is the limit on tables since it is a small room and you cannot call ahead to be put on the wait list. They will have several 2/3 NLHE games running from 10am-ish onward. 5/5 NLHE also runs daily and often starts before the 2/3 games. The minimum buy in for the 2/3 NLHE is $50, which contributes to the actiony nature of this game.

Sycuan is an Indian casino about 25 miles away with a busy poker room (15 tables? 17 tables? something like that). 2/3 NLHE ($100-$400) runs daily with several games, starting around 10am ish. Games can be rock infested or decent action... it's kind of hard to predict. Food is decent, staff is good. 2/5 NLHE occasionally runs on weekend evenings. Games can be found on Bravo.

Barona is an Indian casino also about 25 miles away with a busy poker room the same size as Sycuan. 1/3 NLHE ($100-$500) runs daily with several games, starting around noon ish. Like Sycuan, games tend to be rock infested during the afternoons but can get decent action and deep during the evenings. 2/5 NLHE does seem to run on Thursday nights as well as weekends. Games can be found on Atlas.

Oceans 11 is about 50 miles north from gaslamp. This is the biggest room in San Diego with the most variety of games. NLHE up to 10/25, FLHE up to 8/16, 5/5 or higher PLO, lots of games to choose from. Food is good, service is good, staff is good. Games are good. Unlike the Indian casinos, alcohol is served. Games are on Atlas.

I'd go with Seven Mile due to game quality and proximity. GL, please leave all your money at the table to support our eco system. ;-)
