He's a gambler for sure. When those guys play the smaller games, they tend to just gamble up and force feed chips to the table... except when they're running hot.

Got really frustrating because action was so good but I was super card-dead and my live roll isn't big enough for me to play loose.. (nor is it really necessary since it's properly more profitable to just play the nit against these guys anyways..)

Going from 8 tabling 6max 200nl on stars playing 28vpip to trying to nit up 1 table of 9max live.. i really need something to control my impatience
Why didnt you just join in the fun, I had props calling AI with forty bigs pre with 45ss. As far as Harlan goes, he's been crushing those games for years, good luck trying to stop him. You've got the right idea, nit up and stay out of the way. He makes his money when people try to play back at him. eg, AQ vs 35, Q35flop

If he plays 5/10 the same way he plays 1/2 and is indeed crushing, that tells me a lot about the quality of the 5/10 game...
I would love to have him on my right in any game any time. Same w/ that middle aged Asian guy that brings his son along all the time. He sat across me at 1/2 table today and nit box next to me was talking about how he was a "really good" player that plays 5/10. I don't know how they play differently at 5/10 but the guy just seemed like a leaking faucet.
I really shouldn't be talking **** when I play 5x the lower stakes tho @@ Just really frustrated w my slow progress..

Anyone see the near-fight incident today? Some black guy and a Hispanic guy was arguing pretty loudly at the other 1/2 table next to me talking about "taking it outside". Was pretty surprised see the casino let them stay on the same table after that... 30 minutes later they argue again and the Hispanic guy says "calm down *****". The black guy looked like he was about to lunge at the Hispanic guy had not the security guy gotten in the way. Finally, they kick out the Hispanic guy and he was trying to start **** with the guy next to me on his way out for saying he should have been kicked out a lot earlier.

I've only been to Sacramento a handful of times in the past two years, but I made friends with certain people that they even give me the heads-up when Harlan is at a table because we'll know the picking is good.

I've seen him walk away a winner maybe once out of the 5 or so times I either played with him or observed.

He'll crush people with crap hands, and get crushed when the better hands hold up. Doing the math, it isn't too hard to figure out that he'll get crushed more than he'll be the crusher.

BTW - is Lucky Derby dead these days? I try to play both at Capitol and Lucky Derby whenever I'm out in Sacramento and prefer playing Capitol when it is light out and going to Lucky Derby for the evening and also to play in their night tourney.

But I don't hear it mentioned much here. Is it dead now?

Hey Joebatters,

Quit talking so much trash, u know u wet your depends when Harlan sits down at your table, I'm pretty sure I saw you get up and leave the table when he sat down on your right.

Anyone been playing the 5-10 early (before 10pm) at Capitol lately? Have strolled by a couple of times and the game seems dead. What gives? Thought Nicole was bringing all the action, or is it happening after my kerfuw?

5/10 game is back at Royale, starts around 2 pm. Heard Capitol was 6 handed last night with 3 props in it.

I went to Lucky Derby a couple of months ago during noon. There were a bunch of NL games going and 5/10 omaha hi/lo. It's a small room but had over 50 players when I went. Don't know if thats dead or not but it fills up the room lol

Of course, I stopped by the Derby a few sundays ago during the afternoon and there was just one nl table going and a 4 person waiting list and no omaha going. Perhaps there are a bunch of regulars that play m-f.

Yesterday @ Cordova casino. 1-3NL game. decent action nothing crazy. To summarize I just sit down and see what is a larger stack in front of a solid regular. No suprise there.

I forget the PF action, regular had rasied PF though, but there were 4 guys in the hand on the flop of AsJdQs. All check, guy in middle position he bets, regular raises everyone folds and mp shoves. Rregular calls. Now the board runs out A on the turn and Q on the river. No one flips there cards over and dealers says let's see them. MP thinks he is beat and says so. Solid reg says I called you, you show. MP flips over K 10 for flopped straight. Then reg flips over the MORTAL NUTS with AQ. Absolutely douchey move when you can't lose if you ask me. I just don't understand why people do this and expect not be thought of as an a**hole. Is this as bad as I think it is?

My suggestion to the regular if you read this is to not be such a HUGE DOUCHEBAG since you pissed off the fish at the table and they all said something about it. You have the nuts, just flip it over and take the huge pot. Then you just make fun of the guy who lost when you laugh in his face about calling your raise with K 10 to begin with. Grow the F*** up!
It depends.

I played in Sacramento for awhile going to school, and noticed a very funny dynamic there. Sac is a very rural, small town and with the player pool so small, most of all the poker players know each other or at least play together often.

There's a lot more dicking around going on for sure in the Sac poker games, and the games seemed to have a much more home-game feel to it, players being very comfy about being douchy, and give each other crazy action/trying to bust each other with random garbage.

For a long period of time there was a unwritten game going where if there was at least 3 of us given group of guys there in a same game(and sometimes games would just literally be like 9 regs flinging stacks around), there would be a slowroll contest. generally trying to execute the most hilarious, best/trickiest slowroll in good pots.

turned the taboo into something funny, got the whole table loose and gambling, and desensitized me forever so that no matter how bad of a slowroll I get now, it does not affect me one bit.

I enjoy playing with Harlan, he runs over small games, but sometimes in the process loses. I would say he wins 2/5 sessions, but doesnt lose much $ , if at all. Ive played hundreds of hours with him, and in no way think he is a great player, but he seemed to find a style that works for him.

The older asian in Warren, and his son props at Royale. I only played the game because Harlan & Warren were in it. They both tighten up in 5/10, but are great for the game.

Derby still has decent tournaments, small NL games as well, think 1/1 maybe.

The 5/10 games at either spot are hit and miss, depends on how many "live" ones you got in the game. The players seem to follow the same 10 or so players around town.

Ive only been there once and it was on a Saturday. There was 1 table going at around 10 but maybe 4 more tables were filled. So don't know what the averge crowd is.

And lucky derby has 1/2, the smallest. Ive never seen 1/1 anywhere lol. But for 1/2 the max is $100 and all $1 chips (if anyone cares lol).

Rydell has been MIA for over a month and Ted is hosting that 10-20 at royale tonight, complete with strippers and door prizes, from what I hear.

Btw er7eman, were you the white guy that sat next to me shoving a lot of hands pre-flop talking about how Harlan wanted to call you light so badly?

Been making it out to thunder valley lately and for whatever reason the 1-3 and 2-5 action seems to be there. A large collection of very bad players with quite a bit of loose cash to gamble with. My question is why the attraction to thunder valley over any other card room in the area? the casino is located 30 minutes from the downtown area. the dealers are just god awful. the floor staff makes the dealers look good. games are 10 handed and very cramped. the poker room is very loud and smoke permeates throughout. Love the action but don't quite see the attraction to the place by everyone.

limelight n capitol used to have great 1-3 games in town but for some reason limelight got rid of the game and started only hosting a 100max buy in, 1-2 game where people were buying in for 20 bucks last time I remember. around the same time thunder opened up there card room and everyone flocked there, and the games kinda settled there
