Royale has 9 dedicated poker tables along with blackjack, pai gow and 3 card poker. Armed security, good menu and service, great dealers.

He's legit, but there's always issues, just like everywhere.

The rumor is that Royale and Limelight are going to combine licenses and open a large room near Cal Expo.

Because I work at the dbl L, I will keep to positive observations of other rooms

Capital-good game selection & yes the 5-10/ 10-20 action seems to have found a home thr after Nicole changed over from Royale, plus largest small/med buyin tourny fields (90+ppl)

Royale- best player rewards program, the owner seems like he really wants to give back & they have the nicest chairs

Derby- brand new sports bar attached, gives it a much more casual feel that hopefully will drag in the recreational players & its the longest running tourny freindly poker room in the area

Thunder V- Valet right out the door, good game selection & they have multiple tournys

Cordova- newest on the scene, but has offered an aggressive player rewards program (not sure what it is at the moment), great fireplace

Rancho Club- its been years, but it has a real nice owner & had a friendly staff

Pheonix- its also been a while, but they were the original free food for players room (that was a selling point to me as a young grinder 10 years ago) & i hope after that plug they still give players free food all day

Limelight- not the most serious poker vibe, younger drinking crowd, best at night

As far as games spread: (not including rancho, or lotus)
low limit games 3/6, 4/8: cap, royale, TV
1-1 or 1-2 NL: LL, Royale, Derby
1-3 NL: Cap, Pheonix, Cordova, TV, derby
2-5 NL: cap, royale, TV, pheonix (thurs), LL (fri)
5-10 NL: Cap, TV (mostly weekends)
higher NL: cap ( on occasion)

My opinion on security, is that we should all be aware of our surroundings at all times (so look to see if your being followed home), try to park as close to the entrance, & if worried about getting to your car, all of these card rooms security would gladly walk you out.

Thanks for starting this discussion ... it has been an interesting read. I am planning to try out some tourneys and cash games on Sunday so I will let you know what I find out. I am playing the holdem tourney at royale and the omaha tourney at the derby.

Anyone know if there are any limit games above 4/8 in the area? Does TV have many tables of 4/8 running on the weekend? What is the rake like...beatable?

Dont want to burst your bubble, but thats never happened at Capital.

While its not in the best part of town, they staff a large security crew, if your rolling deep leave your chips at the cashier, drive your car around front, give the security guard 5 bucks to watch your car while you cash in, that way your in and out with your cash.

Capital always running 6-12, some weekends spread 9-18.

Cap did have 3 tables of 5-10 going on Monday, since Nicole has come over they have spread at least 1 5-10 table every night except Easter. Weekdays are surprisingly the best action days for 2-5 and 5-10.

BTW Friday noghts 5-10 was of the chain, live 100 for close to an hour straight!!

The 5-10 game there plays much bigger, will be interesting to see who makes it out of there alive.

5 very wealthy gamblers
5 very good poker players

Everyone else....................................will go bust.

Sweet. Might go check those out when I get my black friday cashout. Do they run them with any sort of kill?

All limit games at cap are full kill.

No post on the kill blind, the kill acts in turn.

Good idea to start this thread, I've played barely any live in the past few months but I did check out Casino Royale a month or two back.

I was playing the 1-2-4 NLHE game, and it was a pretty standard 1/2 game. Very loose passive, weak tight after the flop blah blah. After I got more comfortable at the table (live noob) it was unreal soft.

The food was good (and free), and the staff generally seem pretty helpful and nice.

I'd definitely go back again, that is if I didn't dislike live so much... although I guess I might not have a choice soon =/

Never understood this Sacramento thing... no post on the kill... what's the point of the kill then? I believe Cap is the only place that doesn't force the posted kill in Sacramento now a days.

At cache creek you have to post on the kill.

It is an oddity. I find my self asking when I travel, if I have to post the kill & always get strange looks.

best of my knowledge, the cap has the only limit bigger then 4/8. $5 rake

Royale had 2-5 Saturday til 9pm
TV had three 2-5s & a 5-10 when I arrived after midnight
Cap had a 5 handed 5-10-20 around 4am, it broke at 6. I saw a 6/12 as well.

OK todays the day to get things started with the local grind. Gonna be starting out at 1/2 for the time being til FTP gets with the program and ships my funds back to me. Where should I be going besides limelight? I would rather not drive all the way to Thunder Valley or Jackson if the games are going to be comparable to what I will find at Limelight or Casino Royale, but if they are worth it I will go. Any suggestions from the regs? Only played Limelight so far, first session was a Tuesday night last week. They only had a couple tables going and the action seemed pretty dead overall, so although the games are profitable I have to imagine there are better 1/2 games to be found in the area.

The 1/2 at Royale runs almost 24/7 and is filled with the full spectrum of players. 1/2 NL, max of 200, 4 to open. Action is usually best from 6 pm to about 4 am.

in most cases, staying away from day regs is a must.

You need to play at different rooms and get to know the players that you are most profitable against, learn when they play and follow them. Or what I like to do, befriend them and that makes it EZr to follow them. try all the 1-2 rooms in town (LL, CR, Pheonix, ect.) play where you are most comfortable. I gaurantee if you found me playing 1-2 at any room, you'd think it was the best game ever, & you'd come back.
