Where does 2/5 run regularly in Sac area? Thinking of hitting the Stones.

I will be here on Friday night for a few hours. Is it a 3blind structure like Bay Area?

Thanks.

No Sac has 2 blind structure ...no blind on btn.

All 3 major card rooms in Sac are on Bravo Poker Live so you can check if they are running 2/5

Usually Friday nights Stones and Thunder Valley will run at least 1 table of 2/5

Edit: Stones is not on Bravo but they have their own apps to check which games are going on. As I'm typing this on a Wed @ 6pm they have a 2/5 running with 4 on the waiting list

Thunder opened their new poker room tonight. I think it's a soft opening with half the room still needing some final touches as well as the bar/lounge area. Looks nice and spacious, brighter than stones (maybe too bright with all them white lights).

TV is a solid 15-20 minutes further away than Stones for me. And Stones seems to like low-limit players with well structured low buy-in tourneys and plenty of 1/2 games when it seems everyone else starts at 1/3.

Plus, the Stones staff is hard to beat.

1. Royale: great loyalty program for grinders, great menu and service, good game selection
2. Capitol: decent loyalty program, decent menu and service (charges for waters, etc. though), good game selection
3. T.V.: what loyalty? (unless you're a table games/slots player), lots of food choices, meh service
Where is Royale? and what about Stones?

Concur. Capitol's sketchy neighborhood is also something to be aware of.

And I live a mile and a half from FLB and probably wouldn't go there even if was my only live option available. I don't trust the staff.

New TV room is nice, but you just cant beat the staff at Stones. When they had just opened up it felt like they pulled together most of the best people from all the other rooms in town.

How is limelight action these days? Staying in Davis for a few weeks, stones is a bit of a haul; action used to be great at limelight but its been years.

Moving to the area soon and looking for a storage unit. See there is a PS right behind Stones in Citrus Heights. Anyone want to give a review of the immediately surrounding area in relation to safety, etc

1. Limelight is not busy. The action there from 3-5 years ago has completely dried up. They do get a table going in the evenings of 1-3 NL, I think 300 max. Weekends, maybe two tables. There is no more 3-6 limit or any other lesser gamer in the room. Reasons- are all speculative. Lots of staff left. A few props and staff members played the room very aggresively in the past. (this sentiment has been echoed by quite a few people I've seen at other rooms) They never recovered from the midnight armed holdup from years ago. And the poker boom/bust has left its wreckage. The room seems to cater more to the California tables games now.

Honestly, from Davis, if you calculated the drivetime to Limelight and Stones, given a chance to buzz right up I-80, it should be that much further, time-wize.

2. You cannot go wrong with Stones. Large, secure parking- in front, in back and a lighted parking garage. I'm more a daytime, early evening player, but the place is busy. Great restaurant attached (Sammys) gets lots of people in for just the food and not gaming. Walk in the front door and most likely a security guard will be opening it for you.
The area surrounding is typical suburban residential, light commercial. Certainly not sub-optimal for safety. (sorry for the doub.neg)
The city of Citrus Heights was very welcoming to Stones- a combination of the old Lucky Derby and Phoenix cardrooms. I have not heard of any offthewall crime situations near it.

Above is IMHO only, and welcome any additions and amplifications.

Limelight gets 1-2 table max running at 4pm daily except Sundays. Game runs till midnight-2am mostly and has a couple regular bad players that keeps game running imo. Play there on occasion but as mentioned it’s best to just hit Stones honestly

Hi Sacramento area folks,

I'll be in the area through October and looking to put together a weekly (or more often) game at one of the Sacramento venues.

Looking to play 20/40-40/80 LHE and O8 primarily, but I'm open to other games/mixes as well. Would also be interested in a 5-5 PLO8 or Big O game. I'm waiting for a callback from Stones right now, but I'm sure they are interested if we can put the game together.

Please PM me and we can get the ball rolling on regular game for us non LSNLHE players.

Just wanted to post a quick message letting anyone interested know that Red Hawk suits want to shut the poker room down. They have a petition in the poker room at Red Hawk for those to sign who would like to support keeping the room open.

It’s not th biggest or most active room in Sac but I hate to see any card room close if we can help keep it open. I asked the floor what those who would like to help without driving here to sign the petition in person can do, and they said to go to the Red Hawk website and send a message through the “Contact Us” tab. I’m going to post the link below, hopefully correctly, for anyone who would like to send a quick message.

Just FYI- I don’t work at Red Hawk, just play there on occasion and enjoy the room and the staff

Thank you for posting this. I don’t live in Sac but used to come out there often. Red Hawk was the first casino I ever played a live tournament in. I was nervous as ****, thinking everyone was going to be so much better than I was. I think it was a $30 daily with a $10 add on lol. So much has changed since then, both for me as a player, and also on the Sacramento poker scene, but I’d personally hate to see the room close, as it holds a special place.

RE: Red Hawk-
I did write a nice e-mail to the powers that be, and it sounds like its already decided, done deal, in the bag. The glassed-in pokjer room is pretty use-specific, so I'm imagining they will need to do some extensive renovation again to return it to a blank slate. Below is cut/paste of their reply......

Thank you for your recent email. We appreciate you taking the time to write to express your concerns and share your comments with us regarding our poker room.

We do our very best to provide the best casino experience to all of our guests; however, we also have a financial obligation to ensure that our product is performing. As you are aware, the poker product offered in the Sacramento area has become increasingly competitive. While we know that we have the best and friendliest dealers in the area, it is becoming more of a challenge to fill the poker tables.

While the formal poker room will be closing, we will be retaining a two poker game offering within the new “non-smoking tables” section in the current location.
It is our hope that you, along with many of our other loyal poker players continue to frequent Red Hawk Casino, as the gaming options we offer are based on their performance on the gaming floor.

We would like to reassure you that we do value your feedback and your loyalty to Red Hawk Casino. We will continue to monitor the performance of all of our offerings, including the poker tables.
Thank you again for your email and we look forward to your next visit to Red Hawk.

Regards,

Red Hawk Casino Management

Yea it’s too bad but what can ya do. Didn’t play there a ton coming from Elk Grove, but it was really a pretty well kept secret as a super soft 1/3 with a table max. Play there once a week on Sunday’s generally, but just nice to have as many options to play as possible.

We are really lucky in Sac to have the Poker scene we do though, most of the country would kill to have the options that we do.

Is there a date for the room to close at this point? Been couple weeks since I been up.

What's the pros and cons between Thunder Valley and Stones?
For me, living in Elk Grove without a car, the casino bus to TV is a guaranteed upside over Stones. I played at Stones and liked the room, the staff and the vibe but now when I'm without wheels I have a hard time getting there...

Since you are car-less, I agree that TV and the free bus service is a huge box-check. Other TV check-marks go for variety of food and other amenities, concerts, hotel right there. And lets face it; Thunder is a full-scale casino. If I'm out with my s.o., its to a casino and not a card room.

Stones gets nods in the areas of a better daily tournament. I've played in both, enjoyed both places, but Stones now seems to get a better, larger and more consistent crowd. This last Friday appeared to be over 60 runners. I got there after noon, but did see the screen. Stones gets the nod for superior tableside service, whether its for drinks, coffee, soda or food from Sammy's. They have dedicated waitstaff IN the room, not just passing through.

Dealers, floor and staffing are pretty much a tie. Both rooms are well-run. The two rooms are different in layouts, etc- as such, its hard to compare. I like both. And as others have said in this forum, having a few rooms like this in the Sacramento area is a dream come true compared to some other areas of the country. I've played in so many places that have a "don't like it- then leave" attitude. Management at both rooms mentioned are generally attentive and listen to feedback and constructive critiques.

Thanks for the brilliant answer!
I have so far only played at Stones but as you say the staff is really good. My favorite was Maurice because he took me in the first night I was there and then he remembered my name the rest of the nights I was there.
It may not seem as much but they have a lot of players so I was impressed that he bothered to remember a swedish kid lost in Sacramento, haha..

I'll have to try TV, especially now when my car situation is what it is.

Thanks again!

Sacramento area card room makes noise that it probably doesn't want to make.

Live stream games have been "temporarily shut down". No more Harlan and Victims. Bad timing w/ big MTT weekend coming? comments? thoughts?

Thunder Valley report and status, today
I got out to TV for a brief visit today, and played for a few hours.
Casino entrance- thermal scan for temperature, via roped off walkway. Seamless. No valet parking. Plexi between machines/or some machines turned off.
Poker entrance- Hand sanitizer use a must before being seated. Masks a must. Unsure if they have any- I had mine. Play is 7-handed, with plexi stand alone screens between each player, and dealer. Dealers all in masks. Apparently every four? or so hours, each table is deep cleaned with spray down, chairs wiped, etc. etc. Takes approx 5 minutes. Players must get up.
On this Wednesday at about noon they had a few 1-3, a few 3-6 limit and one 4-8 O/8. No MTT or bonus hands except for standard BBJ and straight flush bonuses. Last night (Tuesday) early evening bravo showed 14 tables going.
My impression is this is a superior look to what I encountered at Reno/Peppermill over the weekend. Being an IC they can certainly do what they want, but the poker mgmt and staff appear to be putting into practice all the better ideas from around the country that we've read about in various news reports and in these forums. The hope is that Sac.County and NorCal takes note of what TVCR has implemented.
Buffet not open, which may strain other food offerings. Drink service remained as before in poker room; efficient and prompt.

I'm not adept enough to upload a pic here; but my description of the stand alone plexi is about a 2' by 3' sheet in a metal stand. Pretty non-invasive.
