Hey you guys live there..and maybe a different part of town then Downtown..I thought it was 30 minutes for me and it was pretty much a straight shot..maybe you guys get caught up in traffic..but I find it hard to believe it takes you 45 minutes in Minnesota on the Freeway to travel 29 Miles--

Yahoo Maps
Trip distance: 29.21 miles Time: 35 mins

And the times they give are usually longer than it really takes ---

But like I said...not sure why all the hate for Canterbury--and this new place isnt even giving out useful information

2 things:

Traffic in MN =
(during rush hour it can take more than 45mins, with no traffic, less than 30mins)

Canterbury =
(but having another poker room can't be a bad thing)

Just a little sick of the same old thing at the park... The musty smell, the mopes at the tables.
Just excited for something new and closer for us east side of town guys.
Competition between rooms can only be good for players.

I live within 5 minutes of the new Running Aces. At the very least, this makes me very happy. I spoke to one of the "general managers" of this place and I was told racing begins in early April (thats been said many times in this thread) and they are going to shoot for a mid-June to mid-July opening for the card room. He said they will have almost every game Canterbury has, and he didn't go into detail what games they would be.

Lets keep this one going until they open or someone has a definitive answer.
Thanks

CP calls itself the only non-smoking casino in Minn. What will their new line be?

Next time I am out there I will be sure to check out both.....and also sneak in a few games at Mystic Lake (no poker, just the bad games )

You wont see any hate from people who have actually played poker somewhere besides Cbury and actually know a thing or two about how a poker room is supposed to be run. I play at Bay 101, Garden City, The Oaks, and The Commerce on occasion. The rooms all offer tons of games and higher action than Cbury and I still wish I could transport the Park staff and dealers to every room I play at.

Does that mean RA isn't having carnival games?

FWIW, I was at the Turtle Lake casino in Wisconsin playing cash 1/2 NL last weekend and one of the dealers there said that Running Aces would be opening their card room in July.

Going to be nice to be a mile from the new place instead of an hour drive from CP. Though this probably means I'm never leaving.

Yeah I was at CP West (the Wynn) a couple weeks ago and heard that they have a big opening planned right around the fourth of July. Apparently RA is recruiting some ex-CP, soon to be ex-Wynn staff. It all sounds very convoluted.

Why would anyone leave the Wynn to go to RA

Is there a website for this card club yet?

I am in WI, but do get up to MN from time to time.

We have heard many different "definite" answers.
Can you reveal your source that July 4th is definite.
Thanks

It does seem the consensus from everything here and what I'm hearing is Friday July 4th.

My source is the cardroom manager. As long as they get in the required number of racing days. They originally proposed late June, but decided to move it back to July 4th so that they could have a multi-day buffer zone in case races are cancelled due to bad weather.

As to limits spread and tourney buy-ins - I will keep you guys posted. I meet with the top people tommorrow, so more info will follow.

It seems we do finally have our definitive answer.
Please let us know any further info when you hear it.
It kind of sucks that we have to wait that long but I'll be looking forward to it.

It is basic right now. I am guessing that it is because they will not open for a while.

But from the sight:

Limits will range from $2-$4 to $30-$60 and we will also operate pot limit $60 maximum bet Hold’em games with $1-$2 and $2-$5 blinds.
