The "1/3" NL is not really beatable. Haven't played the 2/5 since they reopened.

$8 drop is just insane. 5 for the house, 1 for bb and 2 for high hand promotions is not sustainable. Plus a tip, is at least 9 bucks coming out of the pot. Additionally, they open up as many tables as they can, therefore there is often no list (which is great if you're looking to get into a game) but not so great to not have new money pouring into the game.

They call it a 1/3, but max buy in is still only 300. Everywhere else I've played the 1/3 is $500 buy in.

Finally, they have this stupid forward moving button rule, so when a blind busts, button moves forward and small blind posts on the button for two consecutive hands. It simply confuses players and slows the game down. Some stupid California ****.

5&3 rake is beatable in the right games. I can’t speak to these games.

Not very long ago 100BB was a standard max buy in. Still not uncommon though the current trend is definitely deeper buyins. Though I have adapted to it and think deep games are +EV for me I am not certain they are +EV for the poker ecology.

Short handed games change tactics but if you adjust quicker or better they are your advantage.

Having played plenty of both moving button and dead button games, I wish locally they used a moving button especially in places with a rake structure like what is described.

As described, yours would not be my favorite game but I still think it is bearable.

You say 1/3 is not beatable yet you have not tried 2/5. Why not move up to a game where you believe the rake is beatable.

This is not my home casino, so I've only played 3 or 4 times. In short sessions, I haven't gotten called into the 2/5 game. Generally speaking, I'm not saying 1/3 isn't beatable, it's this game, with this rake, with their desire to open as many games as they can, leaving games 6 or 7 handed (with a short stack or two). I like a short handed game, especially in limit poker as most folks can't adjust. In my home casino(s), I get to play a range of limit games (holdem and omaha)

If what I’ve heard is correct, it looks like tournaments won’t be returning her.e. The story going around is that the new manager doesn’t want to run tournaments. That’s unfortunate because there are a lot of players who prefer tournaments, and the cash games have been less than stellar here lately…usually only 4 to 6 tables going (if that). I fear this room will disappear if they don’t do something to bring the players back.

the room is a mismanaged pile of garbage that caters to 3 higher stakes players who are buddies with the staff and then exclusively crams as much $1/$3 into the room as possible. It's lazy sloppy and really should just be scrapped as sad as it is to say it.

That’s too bad because it used to be a pretty decent room.

I’m vacationing in area & thinking of going 1-2X this week.

Has anything changed in last 3 months ?

How often does 2-5 run ? 2/5 rake ?

Do they have a poker rate ?

They did finally bring tournaments back. They are currently running a $160 NLH Survivor Bounty tournament on Sundays, and a $200 NLH tournament with a $10K guarantee on Mondays. Cash games still seem to be struggling.

Played $1/$3 here for about 10 hours on Friday and Saturday while I was in the area for the NCAA tournament with my brother. My first time playing in upstate NY and I thought the action was pretty good, though I'm sure the Friday night session was not typical of most nights. Some truly terrible players in the games (my brother played with a guy who lost almost $2k in about 90 minutes at $1/$3) and even the older daytime regs seemed considerably looser and weaker than the folks I typically play with in CT. The room was nice enough too.

I thought the button moving forward thing was pretty stupid and it seemed to confuse and annoy the other players. Rake/promos are obviously higher than in CT, but managed to hit a high hand promo with quad 7's which was nice.

I had high hopes for the Electric City Poker Series, but from what I've experienced, it's a clusterf*ck. They advertise a re-entry period of 6 levels, then change it to 12 after the tournament starts. All the dealers are table games dealers that have had minimal poker training. They have trouble shuffling, don't know how to (or completely forget to) make change, can't read the board, etc. They're very nice and it's not their fault, but Rivers didn't give them the proper training...they just threw them to the wolves and the players suffer for it. The floor people seemed a bit frazzled and inexperienced as well.

I was looking forward to playing multiple events, but after one, I'm not going back for more. I'd rather make the drive to Turning Stone where they know how to run a tournament.

If a pit dealer wants to and is given a chance they can become a passable poker dealer pretty quick. Just give them a chance.

Room is now closed but th re was a place I played that was rotating pit dealers into poker a week or two at a time for h n back to pits for six or eight weeks. Not that was unfair to everyone n

I played rivers Schenectady this past weekend...there were several 1/3 and one 2/5 game going all weekend...the games are very good...I was immediately seated every day in the 1/3 and got on the list for 2/5...I ended staying in 1/3 because the games were so juicy ....I definitely ran good but the posts about these games not being beatable becuz of the rake are just ridiculous...I have played SSNL all over including LA and the players in this room are some of the worst I have ever sat with...

Yes they do. They haven’t been 24 hours since they reopened after Covid.

I’m guessing they don’t get PLO?

Are the games decent on a Saturday night?

The only Omaha is a high-low 8/B tournament coming up on 9/5 and 10/10. Haven't seen a PLO cash game in a loooong time.
