How is the walk over from the courtyard inn?

I like the staff at Rivers. The 1 question I have is these Tournament Seats that are awarded for high hands. Are these seats out of the 2 dollar rake promo chips. I would guess yes. That means live game players are putting money for seats that more than half of us sell and don’t want. Then the casino gets the rake. Can a staff member answer this? Why are you taking social security numbers for a seat ? I have not won anything but a chance to win a tournament. Do I pay taxes on a seat when I sell it ?

Hi guys, haven’t read entire thread but what’s the current games environment like? Does it get crazy during track season? Or is it too far from Saratoga, are there places to play in Saratoga?

I’m having trouble finding any reviews online and this thread is pretty small too, compared to MGM Springfield and stuff

hello i am from montreal, and i would like to go play on a weekend at rivers, how is the action overthere? and how about the poker rate at the hotel ? thank you

not worth the trip down if its just for poker. If you're gonna already be in the area though its a fine room. predominately 1/2, with usually one game of 2/5 and the occasional 5/10. Weekend room rate is $100 after 5 hours of play.

Go to Saratoga every year for racing and will finally have time to visit Rivers Casino. Looks as if they have only NLHE. Do they ever have PLO? We'll be there on a Saturday afternoon/night. Any tips (comps, drinks, etc.)?

Not really sure but I would guess they run plo on weekend nights. I don’t play at rivers much but sometimes have seen plo on bravo.

Tips: go to the racetrack at toga over rivers.

Oh, I'm definitely going racing; poker is for Saturday night and Sunday after racing.

Action is very bad and the rake is too high. Too far from the track to get players.

I’ve only played rivers cash 2 times but the action seemed fine for not nyc. I feel cash games are way better at rivers compared to turning stone. I can’t really comment though bc I’m sure cash games aren’t as good as say Foxwoods/ borgata at rivers.

Btw I love the wptdeepstacks schedule coming up I’m september at rivers. A 1100 and 550 with solid gtns. I’ll be traveling for both of this weekend mtts. I wish we could get more mtt series in upstate ny.

Thanks! We'll actually be playing at Foxwoods Friday night. Usually great action there and some PLO. Got seats at The Stretch for Sunday, August 4. Outrageously expensive, but it's a big racing weekend. We wanted a place to sit, bet, eat, and drink out of the weather w/o lines, etc. -- and it's vacation so worth it.

I'll report back on Rivers action Saturday and/or Sunday (Aug. 3/4) night the following week.

Plo never runs here and that’s why I pretty much don’t go anymore besides tourneys.

I try so hard to get people to play / learn it but everyone refuses. It’s the same old boring NLH everyday for everyone.

Played Saturday, August 3, at Rivers from about 3 p.m. until 8:30 or so -- I think that's about right. We drove from near Foxwoods that morning and stopped for a run in the Berkshires on the way. (Won $900 at Foxwoods playing 2/5 PLO, so that was a good night for me. Husband lost way more than that, though )

Really enjoyed Rivers. Great little casino. The poker room was actually pretty full, but seemed like a lot of "regulars." Played some 1/2 (up $400) and then they got a 1/2 PLO game going. We tried to get 1/2/5, but the floor didn't allow it (although we made a few rounds). Most players bought in short, and my husband and I basically wiped them all out. One guy left just because my husband was running so well (he's a LAG, which most players there did not like!). I won another $400 at that table, so a good day. We made every pot $5 just to help the dealers out, although not everyone followed suit.

When the PLO broke, we decided to call it a day and drove on to Saratoga. I will definitely go back to Rivers next year.

How big we thinking this 250k at the end of the month going to be? Never played here before.

Prolly 1/8th as big as WSOPc Montreal. 1/7th with the exchange rate.

It’s a 200k for starters, but yeh the 2M gtd is going on at playground and IMO, $900 usd = $1100 CAD (1.4M USD gtd) vs rivers $1100 200k will hurt the numbers.

That being said, a lot of local players here will have a shot at their biggest tourney ever. The casino has given away over 100 seats from satellites alone... so there’s half the guarantee right there. I think it’ll prob hit 300k realistically. Structure seems solid. Hoping the convention center will be able to hold everyone. FWIW, all satellite winners HAVE to play on the Thursday flight. So take that for what it’s worth. Could be a lot of donkey play that day, which can be good and frustrating.

100 satellite seats seems like a ton. I would think it should get at least 300k like you said. And pretty crazy they all need to play the Thursday flight...

Not sure if it's going to be worth the trip from wny but going to consider coming. Would be more appealing if they structured it to finish on Sunday.

Keep in mind that Monday is Labor Day, so myself and mostly everyone has that work day off

I was thinking of coming by the Schenectady area/Rivers this coming holiday weekend. But with the big tournament, are the wait times to get into a cash game(1-2nl) over the wknd going to be pretty crazy? Thanks.

Currently there are only 3 tables of 1-2 going with no wait list.

They have a Wed 8/18 OE game listed on Bravo. Starting time is listed as noon, does this game run until the evening? Do they get enough for more than 1 table? Any info would be helpful as I have to be in Albany at 4:00 on Wednesday and am contemplating taking a ride over if this game does run regularly.

Not sure if Dave grubb reads this but why get some series like parx deepstacks in Albany that run a few times a year? I feel a solid gtn mtt with great structure would easily get some of the nyc and pa players. Just a thought.

I dunno if he reads it either, but Dave came from Parx so he definitely knows about the deep stax model, I'm guessing he has reasons for thinking it wouldn't work as well there.

But still, ask him, he's a great guy and will be very able to talk about it competently.
