The average buy in is probably in the $1000 - $1200 range. A handful of people buy in for $2000. There's not too many who buy in for the minimum.

The standard raise size is generally $20-$25, but it definitely does vary depending on who is in the game. In terms of pot sizes the game plays closer to a 5/10 game than a 2/5.

the 1-3 plo seems to have worse players in it than 1-3-6...1-3-6 is more action filled and bigger stacks etc...1-3 holdem is always pretty soft

There's no more 1/3 PLO, they only have 1/3/6 PLO with a mandatory straddle on button buyin is 200 min to 1000 max, every half hour u pay $5 time rake and you have the option of run it twice.

Almost every Friday this game is a go start around 2 in afternoon and usually goes way past midnight, some nights u have 2 games too, most of Saturday's u have this going on but rest of week there's no guarantee.

Game plays big because of straddle and intial raise to atleast 20, at any given point u see all kinds of players, abc, tight, super loose, gamble type, in general there's lot of action and big stacks too, some buyin 1000, some 500, some 300 or so, 200 very rare.

Gonna be driving up from Virginia for the first time this weekend, and luckily my airbnb is 2 blocks away from the casino. Gonna be playing the 1/3 NL. Anything a 22 year old newcomer should know about Pittsburgh and the casino in general?

The 1/3 is typically pretty juicy. And if not, there are enough tables to find one that is. 2 blocks from the casino? Which direction? If toward the stadiums cool...if not, be careful walking late night. The casino itself is not in a bad neighborhood, but I wouldn't be walking alone too far past the underpass. Also, look at the schedule and try to catch a bucs game...nicest stadium in the league.

Rivers has raised its promo drop to $2. They didn't exactly make an effort to inform any players of the change.

Others in the region doing the same (Hollywood Columbus / Toledo both did this recently also). They went from $6 rake / $1 promo drop to $5/$2 to make it less noticeable.... but they also didn't hide it.

Ughh. They like to keep the games short-handed and fully raked, so this will definitely hurt.

I'm from Cleveland where they still do 6+1, but there have been rumors of the switch to 5+2. Just curious, do they drop the $2 right when the pot reaches $10? How does it work?

$1 at $10, $1 at $30. Started April 9th is what someone told me.

They tweaked the contribution percentages a bit. I believe it's 45% general promos, 25% BBJ, 15% BBJ reserve, 15% royals.

the promos are nice i guess, but i hate the $2 drop as opposed to $1

At the Rivers, the promos are largely a transfer of cash from the weekend/evening rakepayers to the weekday regulars. Show up Tuesday morning and get yours!

I'm generally a weekend/evening rakepayer as you say, bc games are generally better at those times, especially late night...and you're right, most of the promos now take place daytime weekdays, etc, but it wasnt always like that...somewhere in the last 6 months they swayed it towards that.

If you were going to play the rivers tomorrow/Saturday, and could only handle a 6-8 hour session when would you go? Noon and stay til 8 or 4 and stay til midnight? Approximate of course.

Based on my experience there it would definitely be 4 till midnight. Very rarely have I played in great loose games earlier in the afternoon. But once dinner rolls around the games get so much better and usually stay that way. If you could make it happen I love playing from 10pm-4am. So much crazy bad play then
