1) WSOPc is at HH through next Monday. So the demand for cash poker is extremely high as it always is during a tournament series. That room will return to normal in two weeks. Players were driving all the way to FW-SB in lieu of waiting around HH/Rivers to play cash games.

2) The cage is always an issue in a poker room it seems. Rivers was extremely slow when I've been there .. with the cashiers pain-stakingly counting and placing stacks (perhaps as they are trained) out for the camera. This may be a location in the casino where they put the newer cashiers as well.

3) Yes, poker, IMO, is larger than pre-CV numbers. Tournaments especially are setting entry records. During CV Players had ample opportunity to play on Apps/home games and hon their skills.

Is it like 2006? I don't think that the percentage of Players will increase as much as it did back then, but the number of Players has increased for certain from pre-CV. Another reason that this wont mirror 2006 is that 'new' Players have many many options to learn the game and improve at a much faster pace. The raw new Player will get eaten alive in today's games since there are now at least double the Players at the table who 'know what their doing' . So raw Players will go bust quickly and perhaps not come back since 'everyone' at the table knows how to play. And also, since 'everyone' at the table knows what their doing they will hold onto their BIs much longer than they would have in 2006.

You also have quite a few people in general who perhaps got cash-heavy from stocks/bitcoin or whatever .. and even those who were 'locked up' from CV have all that disposable income they didn't spend that they now feel free to go do whatever, and perhaps even do so a bit bolder than they might have otherwise. It’s absolutely a private game. However, you have the option to ask the game runners if you can play. If it’s short handed, they might let you.

What causes a poker room to start tournaments? My impression is Rivers is busy enough that they don't need to run them.

Or maybe when Potawatomi (allegedly) re-opens their room - they'll have some completion from southern WI/northern IL people?

Yes my impression exactly , they keep saying they are working on it but at this point I don't believe them, but I don't blame them either . They are very successful with cash game , even during WSOP circuit , so they don't have to worry about competition . I don't think reopen of Potawatomi will make a difference. Maybe when Bally open if they will have poker , but that is few years ahead.

They say is an Illinois thing, about gaming position , but Grand Vic run tournaments without problems. Probably some truth in that but I think Rivers don't push the issue to hard at this point.

If Grand Vic has tournaments, then it shouldnt be a problem for Rivers to have tournaments.

I honestly feel like Rivers is being run by poor managers in the poker room who probably has a biased opinion against tournaments.

As a tournament player, this disappoints me because I only play tournaments. Tournament poker and cash game poker are not the same. They're two totally different poker disciplines. And it's a shame Rivers is only catering to one discipline. It makes the Rivers room a one trick pony and gives me no reason to go there.

Tournaments are used to fill tables and Dealer schedules, both of which is not an issue there. I'm not dogging them but they don't drive revenue like cash.

They also require an extra Floor for the most part. I like poker, Tournament or Cash, but I don't think I'd change that aspect of Rivers right now. GL

I find Rivers to be a very well run poker room. From my experience, they get most of it right. Is there room for improvement, of course, and I don't think anyone in a managerial position there will tell you otherwise. Have they improved over time since opening around 11 months ago, absolutely without question. Consistent improvement is a sign of a well run room.

As of now, they have zero need to run tournaments. Time will tell how they do when Bally's open, if Bally's indeed does open a poker room. MD

Great quote Don! Rivers does extraordinary volume because of the players and the area. The floor managers can’t even spell poker. They suck to say the least.

There is a New Serious problem with Rivers Poker. They’ve been purposely adjusting the temperature to an ice freezer. I think this is being done when they want people to go home or when they don’t want to spend the extra money on heat.

Note - the rest of the casino temperature is fine. But, when you walk through the poker rooms doors - late at night - there are large boned people complaining about the cold and they have coats on.

What can we do as a group to get this fixed?

Should we call the gaming commission?

Not to join Mr. Complainer, but I saw this last week and decided to share. I'm not surprised - based on Rivers location and proximity to several highways - but I would think security would be patrolling the garage (and I'm sure they are doing that now).

Armed robbers strike outside Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, Mariano's in Park Ridge

A group of offenders committed three separate armed robberies outside Rivers Casino in Des Plaines Friday night before committing a fourth outside a nearby Mariano's in Park Ridge.

Des Plaines police were called to the casino at 3000 S. River Road for the three robberies there at about 7:57 p.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed three men armed with handguns exited a red Nissan Rogue with a Florida license plate and robbed four people in three separate incidents in different casino parking lots.

Two male victims were "pistol-whipped" in the head, and the offenders made off with personal property from the victims, police said.

After fleeing the casino property, the offenders committed another armed robbery at about 8:10 p.m. in the parking lot of Mariano's at 1900 S. Cumberland Ave., police said.

None of the victims reported any serious injuries, and all refused medical attention.

What is your opinion of people who play often at Rivers but don’t use a players card? What are the percentage chances that they are not supposed to be there?

Somewhere between 0% and 100%? Maybe they are spies. Maybe they are in the witness protection program.

When you contact the gaming board about the incorrect temperature, maybe you should mention the players not using a card. I'm sure they will appreciate it

On Saturday night, Rivers had a gigantic list. Later in the evening, the floor just shut the whole seating process down. People that waited forever were turned away due to poor management of the poker room. I was not there. According to players, the floor phone received over 100 calls and voice mails with players expressing their concerns regarding this situation. Even I don't know their phone number but over 100 players do.

The majority of the poker room staff employees could not run a lemonade stand.
