We've been staying at the Rio for the past several days, and have played there a few times. Nice room, although sadly they don't get a lot of games going. 1/3 NL is the only cash game that I've seen, with some tournaments.

There is a $15,000 freeroll every other Monday (next one is this coming Monday). 20 hours of live play is required to get into it. For 40 hours of play, one's starting chips stack doubles in size. Interesting payout structure, as the top 30 players each get $500.

They have progressive royal flush jackpots, offer $3 an hour in comps from 3am to noon, and have $100 cash drawings ($100 in cash given to a lucky player at each drawing, must be playing for at least 1/2 hour before the drawing) at 5am, 7am, 9am, and 11am.

Friendly, knowledgeable, staff and dealers.

Good food at the Rio as well! :-) We both really like the buffet there, and are heading there now for it.

And since it's a Caesars property I assume they have the higher rake like the other rooms? If so, F' em.

+1 about the seafood buffet and don't forget to Straddle from the button!

I haven't been there in a year but the one thing I remember on a negative note is that the chairs are terrabad but overall I did enjoy the room.

Does anyone know specifics about the daily tournies?? Blind structure, minutes per blind level, and how much of the $65 goes into the prize pool.

I see from the bravo app they have changed the freerolls to 10 hours a week for $7500 freeroll and 20 hours for double stack. The $3/hr from 3am to midnight sounds good.

I see from the app the 1/3nl goes steady thru the night with a list. I will be staying there off and on and wondered if anyone knew about the blind structure of the freeroll, blind times? Single stack, double stack?

I've heard the 1/3nl game is not good and others have said its great, I guess it depends on how good you are right, lol.

From my experience it's all regs who want the $3/hr comp and the 1 in 10 chance at the free $100 every 2 hours.

Is this just the overnight hours or is the evening game (6pm to midnight) just the same regulars?

I am coming down to Rio from June 9th to June 16th to play a couple WSOP events and was wondering how the games in the Rio Poker Room compare to the games in the WSOP Pavillion, particularly at the 2 5 level.

One thing that puzzles me, if Rio Poker room gives comps and WSOP Pavillion cash games do not, why does Rio poker room get only like two 2 5 games (according to bravo), while WSOP Pavillion gets 10-12. Is their a rake difference or are the players at the Pavillion much worse?

While this certainly is an appropriate place to ask, this thread seems to have no traction. You're bound to get more/better answers in the LVL forum.

It's a combination of both though - worse players in the pavilion, as well as less rake (the house drops the same for itself, but the pavilion doesn't collect for the jackpot).

The real reason is that all the WSOP tournaments are in the Convention Center. Even for cash-only players, they know tournament players are going to be in the cash games, so that's where they go. It's a long-ass walk from the Convention Center to the Rio poker room, so most people just stay put at the WSOP. A handful of comp dollars to eat the Rio's mediocre food isn't worth it. Also, I believe the Rio room has a jackpot drop.

Are you guys talking about the regular Rio poker room, which is like 5 tables next to the Sportsbook? I stayed at the Rio and played there a bit. It's no more than a token poker room, which means it attracts few serious players (compared to say Planet Hollywood which is "known" to be fishy), though on the other hand it attracts few games either (most they ever had was maybe 3-4 tables running during peak hours, 1-2 during non-peak hours).

Yeah, but it gets a lot busier during the WSOP. Bravo says it has 14 tables and 9 games are running right now.

Checking Bravo from 1500 miles away... What is the "1/2 Big Easy" running at the Rio during WSOP?

So, basically everyone puts their buy-in into the pot and see who wins?

Right? I'm curious how this game is playing PF. Are limps pretty standard? Or is, say, $50 to go the norm?

Equities in 6-card hi-lo have to run so close that no once can really be ahead pre.

Yes, that's where I saw it (on Bravo).
This is going to be my first foray into the Rio for WSOP. Is it really as cold as people make it out to be? Do I need to bring a hoodie? Should I wear pants?

definitely bring a jacket or a hoodie, your arms and legs will be the coldest part of your body, but you feel it more on the upper body. they don't actually seem to keep it that cold but being that the rooms are gigantic, so you don't feel any warming up of the room even with like a thousand people+ in a room. pants or shorts are probably fine, kind of depends on yourself.
