I have no Sin dollars, only have HK (Hong Kong) dollars on me, should be fairly easy to exchange correct? Also have an ATM card, I assume it shouldn't be too hard withdrawing from my bank card I reckon.

From the info on the thread, most are buying in for 150bbs usually? Is there a good or bad time to go? Thank you
Hi there,

It's not advisable to take taxi from MBS if you're on a budget. There has been cases of scalping recently. Read more here.
If you must do so, always take the taxis from the taxi stands - these guys are the "honest" ones and will charge you by the meter. The trip from MBS to RWS should cost you arouund S$10-12 as the destinations are relatively near. You can also navigate the public transport system with ease if you have a smartphone - Singapore on Google Maps is very detailed and you can use the route planning function with good accuracy. Personally I usually take 97 from the bus stop outside MBS to Vivocity and take the Sentosa LRT inside the shopping mall (3rd floor) which stops right at RWS. You can also walk across the boardwalk on the bridge if you feel like the exercise and want some sea air.

You can change your currency at MBS or if you're feeling adventurous head down to Chinatown or Little India for slightly better rates (and the food of course). As for ATM cards it shouldn't be any problem so long as the network supports it. Just be prepared for extra bank charges for overseas transactions.

A good time to head to RWS would probably be on weekend evenings - there'll be quite a crowd but it'll probably be quite a tough field. If you wanna see some real action you should come during the Chinese New Year period (10th Feb) when all the real degens come out to play. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the headsup, really appreciate it. I'll most likely play the 5/10 game there. Will arrive tomorrow evening and start grinding all night. Easy to buy prepaid sim cards there?

note that they made a copy of my ID when i bought the card : )

let us know what you think of the tables there, i hope it's not as nitty as it was last october! : ) with chinese new year you might see a flood of gamblers coming soon!
enjoy Singapore...

Played a couple sessions there, thought it was similar to any other cardroom. Lots of regs mixed in with some fish here and there. Thought the play was fairly conservative and very careful. Regs there like to play small ball and generally like to avoid high variance spots.

Out of the 3 days there, I'd say only 2 regs were decent and probably winning solid grinders. Others are pretty much the same as any other live fishy pro grinding out a small wr. With the high rake, tight, nitty play is probably a decent strat. Pre you can re-iso players who are iso'ing the fish as there's no rake pre. Many will just rollover and have the "wait for a better spot" frame of mind.

Actually, they do rake even without a flop. This with exception for pots under 100 who are always unraked.

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any info on how the 5/10 game is nowadays... Is it still usually full on weekends? From what i've gathered, everyone generally plays pretty tight...?

Thanks

Play is still pretty passive... lots of limping.

Every table will have around 4 regulars and not every regulars are good there.

Overall, it is still very soft. Just play tight and aggressive n take down a lot of small pot, that will bring you tonnes of profit.

Will be spending a bit of time in Singapore over then next few months... Is this still the only poker venue??

Sounds ok, though the rake sounds a bit severe!

Hopefully spending some time in HK too.. been wanting to visit Macau for a while now!

Btw, went to MBS to check it out - they still haven't got it and unsure as to when they will start. Will be quite cool if they start (closer to home) so will keep and eye for 2+2ers

Any update on the Singapore poker scene?

Things are changing in Macau, so SG might be a viable option in the future.

Looking for an update as well. Based on the lack of information, it's either very good and people want to keep it a secret...or it's very dead

Went today (a Monday afternoon, and 2 tables or 5/10 going) .. About £2.50/£5 which was a bit bigger than I thght, so only had cash to sit down with £300, .. ( min buyin was SGD 300- max SGD 1500 ).

The game was tougher then I expected, and lost my buy-in .. Thou saw nothing, in 90 mins play.

It's in the smoking section, which was a downer for me .. Not sure if I will play much .. Even thou, I might be here for a while.

It costs £2 by train, from the harbour front terminus .. Served by the local underground train (MRT) .. And it's pretty easy to get to.

Locals have to pay .. £50 to enter !! .. Or £1000 a yr ... Which is still pretty steep.

Foreigners, who have to show passport, in and out, free.

While I was there, the other table broke up, after maybe 40 mins, but, a new one, was in the process of thinking about starting, as I left.

Not much table chatter .. I spoke to no one.

A few other thoughts.

Hotels ( little bigger than hamster cages ), cost £50 a night in Singapore .. Much better value to stay in Malaysia .. $10-$40 taxi, depending if u share, and commute.

On reflection, I think I played the hand I busted out on, badly .. Maybe I go over it, to give u some idea of the play.

I have Sgd 265 left .. Others at table, have between 800 to 2000, thou one guy, whose involves in the hand, got busted 20 mins ago, borrowed 500, and now has 1000.

Anyway, I have Ac 6d .. In cut-off.

Blinds 5-10, busted guy makes it 35, called by a fairly aggressive guy, think they both regs, and I call, really only cos I have position.

Small blind and big blind fold.

Flop. .. 5c 4c 10c

So, have nut-flush draw, and some back door straights.

Busted guy, bets 50, called by aggressive guy, and I shove, for my remaining 245 or whatever meaning they have to put in 195 to call.

Busted guy, thinks for 5 mins, before calling with 10s Ad. Aggressive guy folds.

I missed.

I don't mind his play. I could have prob won the pot, with a min raise, or to 125 .. But, wasn't that bothered .. U can see my style of play.

I don't think this game is beatable. They're raking $50 SGD which is maybe the highest rake in the world? Leads to a nitty, boring game where almost everyone limp calls. Entire buy-ins are vanishing off the table from the rake with only a few rounds. The game is also in the worst spot in the entire casino...very hard to stumble upon randomly and clogged with smoke.

It's too bad because it's 5/10nl (sgd) and 2-4 tables run regularly.

Tried a Saturday evening, and 4 tablets going strong.

The smoke is simply unbearable, if u are anything like a non-smoker.

I lasted 2 orbits, and left .. See no reason to go back.

Ok, so, I went back.

(( lotsa excuses .. have a week in Singapore, with nothing to do etc etc, and u can only watch so much poker on the tube, without getting itchy ))

Tuesday afternoon, 1.6 tables going, so, walked right in to the .6 table.

5/10 SNG$, bought in for 500.

Most of the stacks are 1000-1500 .. but, hit a set early, to get to $700, when picked up Kc 8c in cut-off. Was raised (again), by the serial raiser on my right, to 35, so called.

2 players .. flop 3c 6c Qc .. Bingo !! thats about as good as it gets.

He bets 75, I raise to 225, he shoves. I call, board didnt pair, and he never showed (I toss over my hand, as soon as money was in).

Game got good .. one hand, I wasnt involved in.

2 players, both had stacks of 2200 or so.

Board 8s 6s Qc

some raising pre-flop, so, about 450 in the middle.

Pre-flop raiser, bets 1100 - all-in .. other guy tanks, and calls.

Turn 10d, river 5s.

Pre-flop raiser shows AsKs for nut flush, caller shows 4s 7s for straight flush !!!

anyway, in the end, the smoke got me, after 2 hrs .. so, left a 650 winner.

- Any dress code? Shorts/t-shirt okay?

- Is there any safe mass-transit way to get there? (I'll be at a hotel about 20 min away by car. So maybe just a taxi?)

- Do I understand correctly that as a short-term visitor (sans visa) I can enter for free as long as I have my passport?

Anything else I should know, apart for the stupidly high rake?

Thanks in advance.
1) better change your money elsewhere. Casino's and hotels are know for giving very bad rates. Check: http://www.thebestsingapore.com/best...-in-singapore/

2) everybody speaks English here. You should have no problem at all.

3) dress code is smart casual. No shorts/slippers allowed. T-shirt is ok.

4) Even though cars are very expensive in SIN, taxi's are actually quite reasonable. You will probably get there for less that 20SGD.

5) YES! You have to bring your passport and then entry is free. The casino charges locals 100SGD. Looks like they want to keep the "poor" local people from entering. This results that the poker players you will encounter are pretty good locals. Otherwise they would not pay the entry fee of 100SGD each time they go there. If your airline staff also bring your airliner ID. I was refused twice yesterday. First time because I didn't bring my passport, second time because I didn't bring my airline ID. I was so upset I didn't go back.
