Basically, I'm surprised that Resorts poker doesn't seem to be doing anything to draw players and the terms are inferior to Borgata. Resorts needs to start some good promos and incentives and match card status to get things rolling.
A lot of what you're saying is true but if you play above 1/2 nl there really aren't other options to play in ac

That's a reason, though it seems like a bad one. "Don't curse or threaten violence" is a bright enough line for most poker rooms. Squashing fun and neutralizing a classic poker skill in order to have a SLIGHTLY brighter line? Doesn't seem worth it.

Any chance 5/5 PLO could be switched to a time game?

RW only having 300 rooms is going to make it tough to comp poker players. Why give it away when reg gamblers will pay $500 a night?

They could reserve a small block of rooms (like 10 rooms) for poker. That would only be about 3% of the total rooms in the hotel. Players could simply go to a "rewards" website for the casino to see if they qualify for a comped or discounted room on any given day like the Borgata has set up and players that put in hours when they play, live far away and play high should get these rooms more often. On dates when the casino anticipates a lot of traffic (like New Years Eve for example) then they can use those 10 rooms for regular paying customers. What I am saying is I doubt they anticipate the hotel being at full capacity so frequently to the point where they cannot do this.

Differing views will differ. I like the rule so I no longer have to deal with the stress of times where I've almost been driven to choke slam two players for hollywooding on a river in a $40 2/5 pot. Move. The. Game. Along. That's where subjectivity comes into play. How long is annoying to other players? 30 seconds? a minute? five minutes? does it depend on the size of the pot?

I hate long waits on small pots too. But in my experience, it's the totally silent shades/headphone grinder-types who drag it out, shuffling and carving out enough chips for a call three times before mucking as we all knew they would.

TRIP REPORT, Thurs 3/8

- I live just north of the Bronx & it took me only 1hr20mins without traffic to arrive at RWC. All highway driving, no backroads through the Catskills. Nice smooth drive.
- Elevator from the parking garage drops you right off at the poker room on the 2nd floor. Convenient.
- Poker room is very separate from the rest of the casino, not unlike Revel's poker room (for the brief time it was open). So you're not a part of that general casino energy, but the room had plenty of players & a good vibe. Also the escalator right outside the exit takes you down to the casino floor & the "food hall" so the room is not totally remote.
- The poker tables are huge and the games are 9-handed. With a table that large I would have like 10-handed but that just my preference. As it was there's plenty of room for each player. Huge table legs/posts at the ends of each table but not as obtrusive as those at the Beth Sands. They didn't bother me.
- Weird quirk: While the tables are big, the chips trays are small. The dealers had to often request fills but it didn't slow down the game. Was just bizarre with the table so big they easily could have had bigger trays.
- Free no-hassle wifi. USB charging ports at each seat and while my port charged (extremely) slow it still got the job done.
- Crisp brand new chips with hard edges, great for shuffling. Their weight was a little on the light side but still fine.
- Bathrooms conveniently located in the poker room. A+.
- A handful of rookie dealer mistakes but nothing worth mentioning. I assume it will improve over time. But they did hire a few Sands dealers and the improvement/experience was noticable whenever they cycled through the room.
- Weird complaint: for some reason the floor kept sending 1/2 players to our 2/5 table (Table 5 btw). It happended literally 5+ times. A player would sit down with maybe $200, get situated and comfortable, not realize it was 2/5 until the blinds came around, then pack up & leave. We talked to the floor about it but it kept happening. Not sure if the issue stemmed from the desk, the floor person, or the people actually sitting the players.

Overall this is a solid room & I'll definitely be back. For me, can't beat the short commute. RWC is only 10-15 miles closer than the Sands or Parx but you don't have to deal with the GWB or I-95 which are always headaches. Long term I just hope they maintain a good player base. Will be curious to see how busy the room is after the newness wears off (and all the casual locals go broke & give up ) but that's a discusion for a different day. Thanks to RWC for a great start.

I agree with most everything here, especially the fact you can park your car next to the elevator, and the poker room is literally steps away. You can even take a bathroom break and hardly miss any hands.

One thing I would like to say is I've seen new dealers deal their first days before (I was also there opening day) but this crew of new dealers, although they're brand new, were much better than I thought they would be. Training paid off. I was also surprised to see one of the the Sands most experienced and professional dealer make the move to RWC. 你好 !

Deciding between here and Sands tonight. Only concern is the longer wait with less tables.

Anyone have issues with the wait time yet?

Check the Bravo Poker App. Currently says 15 tables running with a waiting list of 5 people for 1/2 and 6 for 2/5. This is the first Friday the poker room has been open so I'm unsure (and curious) what will happen as we head into the evening.

So I went last night (Fri Night) and it was packed. Every table taken. Here’s the good and bad from my trip:

Good:

- Any kind of drink you want incl Red Bull
- You can get hot dogs and snacks for free lol
- chargers at tables...New chips..new casino overall which is quite nice
- Separate poker room if you hate how sands currently is

Bad:

- I know it’s early but the dealers are GOD AWFUL

- there was one cashier for the whole poker room which meant a ridic long line to buy chips and cash out. People were just selling chips to others cause it was so long

- waitresses don’t know what their doing yet..one mentioned not knowing the table numbers aka winging it and how to read the screen ie: when someone requests food

- Generally chaotic and barely played hands due to how inept the dealers were. Honesty guys it was cringeworthy

I’ll def return but might wait a couple months until they get it together.

Some comments on my first visit:

1) The poker room is big, and there was a lot of action.

2) The lighting really needs some tweaking. Half of my table was in darkness, half overly-lit.

3) With no windows to the outside world at all, and a relatively low ceiling (by casino standards), this room feels kind of claustrophobic and gloomy, like a random airport conference center.

4) The chips, per a comment above, really do feel unusually light for Paulsons on the RHC mold. Like, a gram or more light. The result is almost plastic-y.

5) I could not find a screen in the poker room with the waiting lists and games running... Finally found one out in the hallway.

6) The TVs are undersized for the room. This is lame for both glancing at sports games going on, or reading the high hand screen, etc. Big TVs are not a big expense nowadays... Not sure why they cheaped out.

7) Nice to see alcohol etc. comped, unlike Rivers in Schenectady. A guy at my table was taking full advantage... and giving away chips.

8) The rest of the casino is bright, airy and lively. The poker room feels unfortunately like an afterthought. Maybe they were rushing to get it open and it will improve.

9) Whoa — those carpets were giving me bad flashbacks to 1985.

10) Most of the dealers I had in a 6-7 hour session were fine. A few really good ones. Some average-to-mediocre. A couple who really either need to go back to school or find another profession. I had one hand where I literally had to grab my carefully-tabled cards with all my strength to prevent the dealer (who had misread the board) from mucking them. Others just slow/confused. But this is to be expected in a new casino.

11) Another feature of new casinos is inexperienced players who don’t really know the rules, and get upset when they are enforced -- or players who try to bend them knowing the new dealers are not as on top of things as they should be. There was one guy at my table blatantly trying to hide his $100 chips from view.... another who was signaling raises to the dealer with his hands (by pointing up) and then string betting... Stuff just being let go. Sucks to be the guy who is playing policeman so I said nothing. At a nearby 5/10 table, there was a big argument about alleged collusion, and it went on and on and on -- the floor needed to get that shut down/settled faster than that.

Sorry to be negative mostly, but I was really looking forward to having a new venue closer to home. I’m gonna give it a few months and try again. Maybe some of this stuff will be fixed by then.

Oh yeah...forgot to mention how depressing the poker room is without windows and with how dark it is. For the love of god brighten the room up a bit.

If I can make a suggestion - to better establish the image of RWC as a high-end gaming establishment, the floor should keep 3-4 tables open on busy weekend nights exclusively for 5/T NL+ and 2/5 PLO+. This will attract more players looking for higher limit action (as they are also often pit players)

I was there this past Saturday (last night) and 18 out of the 19 tables have been used for 1/2, 2/5 NL, 2/2 PLO and 3/6 limit (seriously??), while there were enough people on the lists for higher games to open a few more tables. What ended up happening is that people on the list see that there is only one game, realizing that they will probably never get on, and end up leaving. So when a seat does open up, it ends up being open for 30 minutes or more as they call the next string of absent players. I only got to play 2/5 but I did see 1-2 seats open in the 5/T game for an extensive period of time, a couple times.

I get that the lists for 1/2 and 2/5 get way longer and the floor is under pressure to not leave tables empty. However the turnover at those stakes are way higher, and they can always use the reserved tables if higher games don't get started by a certain time.

If RWC ever wants to try and establish a healthy pool of high limit players now is the time.

Just played for the first time here today. Overall liked the vibe of the room. While I agree with some people above that’s its dark, I personally like the feel it gives off. Kinda cool being sectioned off from the main floor as well imo. Some dealers need help (obv) but there are also some good experienced dealers as well imo, which balances out.

Played all day. Ate early on at Doubletap. Good service, and good food. Got a burrito later on from the food court, and it was decent as well.

I’ll definitely be making more trips

Played RWC Sat night. Arrived in prime time (8:30pm), waited 2hrs for a seat at 2/5, never got called for 5/10.

Overall: good room with a few problems that seem mainly fixable. The only maybe tough fix: not NEARLY enough tables to handle prime time. A lot of would-be 5/10ers gave up, as noted above. I was about to give up when the 2/5 seat opened.

Re dealers: sure they were slow and some got confused by basic stuff. (Players were slow, too, and dealers didn’t nudge them along.) But experience will cure that. All were nice, polite and —despite all my pre-emptive bellyaching on this thread—didn’t stop anyone from talking heads-up!

Waitresses sure to improve, too. All tried hard, were super friendly.

Advantages over other East Coast rooms:
—noise very well controlled (can’t stand Sands for that reason)
—seats well-spaced and the tables well-spaced from one another (Foxwoods crams you in)
—bathrooms right there, wifi and charging all good
—good vibe*

Disadvantages:
—The long wait. And 10/25 NL had a long interest list with no table free to spread it.
—Floor chaos, seats staying open a long time. Figure they’ll figure this out, too. Floor folks were trying hard, seemed a bit overwhelmed at times by the crowds.
—Longish lines at the cage sometimes.

*-Vibe is subjective. But if you know what a Mass-Hole is, you know what I don’t love about Foxwoods. And if you’ve seen the Jersey Shore, you know my problem with Borgata (not to mention Taj while it ran). And vibe-wise Parx is just bland.

I’ll be playing here a lot. But unless the crowds die down, they’re going to have to cram more tables in (bummer) or open a second room.

ha i had the opposite experience. wanted to play 2/5 nl while i waited for 5/5 plo and they sat me at a 1/2 nl table. on the first hand 2 people limped with red chips and i made it 30 and they were like wtf why raise so big and then i realized it was actually 1/2 nl.

I had a few good dealers in plo- once of them had told me he just left parx which made sense bc the dealers there are almost all good.

There were a lot of bad dealers, hopefully they improve with time. It's one thing to have bad dealers when you're new-it's a problem once you've been open a while and they're still bad (cough borgata cough.)

It's a nice room. I hope they can get 5/5+ plo running consistantly or at least 5/10 nl.Although I understand that they can just fill 1/2 nl games all day long.

I mentioned this earlier but 5/5 plo should really be a time game. In my experience bw time and rake casinos in time games with no waiting list games last a lot longer when the game isn't great (obviously a great game isn't breaking) than rake games bc you're just getting raped 3-5 handed and with no list and no awful players it breaks which sucks for the players and for the dealer who happens to be at the table.Time games tend to keep going and often fill back up eventually. On a friday or saturday night it doesn't matter to the poker room bc they can just open another 1/2 nl game- but on normal nights when the room has a few empty tables, they're screwing themselves, the dealers and the players.

I live around the area you mentioned- it's really not a bad drive at all. No traffic and a little scenic. And no getting raped on tolls like driving to parx.

Finally got up to the room on Sunday. Have a few thoughts. . .

The outdoor self park was odd. Plenty of spots but as far as I could tell there weren't any walkways from the lots to the casino doors. I really don't want to be walking on the same roads as the cars coming and going, especially in a casino environment where folks are going to have a few drinks.

The room was nice, easy to get to from the front door of the casino. TV's at eye level so you're not craning your neck like the Borgata to watch a game. Drink service as good, bathroom and chips are both right in the room.

A few concerns however. I can't speak about the 2/5 but for the 1/2 60 dollar min buy-in is just too low, even more so with the 5/2 rake structure. You have a bunch of these at your table (like I had) it just leads to a boring game.

Pay super close attention to the board at showdown. In a 3 hour period I had 3 different dealers misread the board and try to push a pot to the wrong person. It's on us until the dealers get up to speed. Going to be a work in progress for some time.

All in all a good room. Happy to be able to get some poker action in 80 minutes from home. Will be back soon.

A lot of people don't even know there is a parking garage, it's barely labeled at the entrance. When you turn left off that main 3 mile long racetrack entrance, make the next left and follow that road all the way down around to the back of the building, it leads you right to the parking garage.

What I do when I enter it is drive straight up the ramp to the top floor, make a right, and then make a right on the second or third to last row, and park right in front of the elevator entrance. I've always found spots there. Take the elevator to the top floor and the poker room is literally right off the elevator. (the parking garage is below the building, and just so you don't think your crazy like I did on my first day there, the elevator button is all they way at the end of the entrance hall on the right past the 3 elevators).

I agree with what you said about watching the dealers and they're a work in progress. I've played many hours there since the opening and I really thought they would be much worse than they are. They're pitching cards pretty good and are getting better every day. Also about half of them are experienced dealers anyway. I don't understand when people come on here and say "the dealers suck". I didn't come here expecting to be met with top tier experienced dealers as I guess some other players were.

Overall the room has really taken off as I knew it would. There are 2/5 games every day starting in the late morning (and even 5/10 on a lot of days) and the playing atmosphere is top notch.

Full agreement about the dealers. The hands per hour at my table was more than acceptable. Board reading will certainly improve with time. Pleasantly surprised as a whole.

Had no feel going in about tables and limits but this Monday afternoon they had 7 1/2 and 2 2/5 on bravo. About the same has Mohegan. Better than I had right to hope.

A dealer mentioned Tournaments are starting in May. How? On Saturday all 19 tables were running and on Sunday 15. Even today had 11. Doesn't leave many options for dates and times.

Looks like I won't be playing here. No big tournies and no Omaha 8 or mix games. Too bad.
