Yes, Monticello/Sullivan Co. is a very depressed area. But Atlantic city is basically Detroit East and Borgata's poker room is a poker player's paradise, both for cash and tourney - high stakes and low - its usually packed. And people regularly make the drive from Brooklyn, NNJ, Long Island, CT, Westchester - a wide radius. My theory is that if the offerings and action develop over the opening weeks and months people will come--this room has potential and the distance is not a huge negative. They'd better set up a formidable regular tourney schedule when it starts in May. And not the weekday-only crap like Rivers Schenectady because they can only do tourneys when they have available tables in the poker room itself. They need to use the event space to run a serious schedule (ON WEEKENDS TOO) which means they are gonna need a solid group of dealers.

AC is a sh*thole, yes. But it's literally in the middle of Philly, NYC and D.C. Plus there's a sizable population living outside AC. AC has other nice places to stay so you don't have to pay $400 on a weekday for a room. Ac has the beach and shopping and restaurants for the ladies and children. AC is a beach destination for many different states for 5 months a year. There's zero comparison between AC and Monticello

Do you understand that about 99% of visitors to RWC are coming from outside of Monticello? The casino is packed as it is, like sardines, rows of people waiting hours to play blackjack. If Monticello is such a "depressed area", why is the casino so busy???

Not only are there tons of people inquiring and asking "does anyone know when the poker room will be opening" on all of the RWC social media posts, when all the blackjack and craps tables are filled, where do you think everyone is going to spill over to? You're right - Poker!

Then that's great news. I pray I'm wrong.

most likely the room will be very busy in the beginning and then the novelty will wear off

who wants to play PLO with no straddles when multiple games run every day in bigger poker rooms that are more or less equidistant from the city

if the borgata didn't give out free rooms like candy to poker players the room wouldn't be nearly as packed

This can be said about many card rooms. I am going to take a wait and see attitude. Can't buy the button and no straddling? Going to take a lot to make me choose this over Parx. Especially with a shorter drive.

Free rooms are definitely a big piece of the puzzle if they are looking to lure New Yorkers away from Borgata and Foxwoods to play on a regular basis.

Catskills resident here, speaking for a group of upstate players. Everything about this room sounds inviting, intelligently managed, very promising. But there's one rule that's a real bummer to us and we're struggling to understand its rationale. Maybe someone who gets it can explain why the otherwise flawless Davey would decree that...

"Players in the hand may not talk about the hand when heads up..."

Trying to gab an opponent into a fold or call after your turn-shove, and trying to gab a shover into a tell before you fold or call: aren't these two of the great joys of poker?

Twin River has a similar rule. I'm sure there are others. In fact, at TR, you're not supposed to flip your cards over until the river card is flipped. Not sure how strictly these are enforced.

Only thing I can think of to why they have this rule is to combat players goading other players into calls. Where a good dealer will address and if not rectified call the floor. Or to address the Will Kassouf syndrome where a player overdoes it and also tries to goad people into calls or folds. Both things are better addressed by dealer and floor. I think talking should be allowed heads up.

Easily rectified by saying "clock" so dealer hears you.

I am definitely coming tomorrow, and definitely wanna play 5/10nl. I will not be there until 2:30pm however. I felt it might be hard to get this game running much earlier than that considering it's a monday. But..I'll be there by then, will play it short if need be, and will play until late.

Exactly. And "goading players into a call" is a basic poker skill. So I'm still trying to understand the reason for outlawing all chatter between players heads-up, as opposed to the usual sensible limits on abusive language, taking too long, thinking you're on ESPN...

oh i've taken quite a liking to calling clock in the last couple of years.still i don't like to affect someone in the hand who is doing nothing wrong

ie Player A bets, his opponent Player B who couldn't read a picture book, starts with the "what do you have?" "will you show if i fold"? routine.i don't want to affect the hand for Player A's benefit. when two of the player B type guys get in a hand together then it's a joy to call the clock.

Davey what will the buy in limits be for 5/10 nl or 2/5 (5/5?) and 5/10 plo be?

thanks
