Re: Resorts World Catskills Thread - FAQ in First Post

I have played at RWC 3-4 times past several months have several observations:
1. Yes: too cold.
2. 2/5 is not quite reliable and had to wait up to 2+hrs to play
3. Some dealers are poor, but worse was the floor.
about 2 weeks ago with raise preflop and about 4 callers, dealer errors by showing burn card and the flop. Dealer very passive and table calls for floor. Floor comes over, turns over the flop plus burn, with one hand moves them around, turns over 3 cards and tells the dealer to proceed.
Several players object, dealer proceeds and asks for action, and hand goes to turn with mostly folds and no river.
Several players ask another floor how it should have been handled and they say, to their credit, said, 'I don't know the rule.' Then another floor [someone I've seen several times} comes over and reports correctly what the dealer shoulda done.

2 players said this happens all the time and complained about dealers.

I saw additional problems by dealers, but these were easily remedied when pointed out.

Maybe I'll try again in a few months, but there are other casinos with more reliable action and more experienced dealers.

for those going to RWC I hope this improves.

I was there for the big million giveaway - the place was bananas. The ran out of parking and were putting cars on the access road. Unfortunately didn't win the million but it was crazy there.

Re: Resorts World Catskills Thread - FAQ in First Post

Had something happen last visit that I didn't think was allowed. I checkraised allin on the turn and villain stated he hasn't acted yet and turned over his cards and waited. I thought this was not allowed in the room? I made no move or statement until he eventually folds after a minute or so. Should I have asked for his hand to be folded or call the floor?

If this is not allowed what is the punishment?

It is not allowed, but they are just going to issue a warning first time.

Question about picture taking in the poker room? Would love to get my whole cards to correspond with a journal entry regarding any hands that need to be gone over

Re: Resorts World Catskills Thread - FAQ in First Post

Had a good Saturday at this location!

Was playing 1/2 at a very tight nitty table and was able to felt 3 players throughout the night lol.

First hand with pocket KK against pocket QQ. I 3 bet on a $12 dollar raise to $40, then he jams me after tanking for 3 mins.

Second hand, again with pocket kings against AK suited. Player first to act raised to $20, I raise to $50 and then he shoves after my raise. I definitely was sweating a little bit after I saw his cards.

Third hand, went to showdown with my J9 beating a J6 with both of us with two pairs. That was a huge pot with about $700+ lol

I stayed at a nearby inn in the area that charged me $64 a night. Man, was that place sketchy! Woke up with bedbug bites on my arms after 1.5 hours of sleep and had to drive all the way back to Brooklyn.

Davey - is this room dying and officially throwing in the towel? Where are the guaranteed tournaments? What a huge disappointment this has been. For the $75K guarantee you guys got $100K worth of buy ins. Then you lower it to $25K guarantee (?????) in Oct. Now in November there are no guaranteed tourneys. What a shame!

Whose decision is it to choke off this business? And screw the tournament crowd.

Their poker room revenue has dropped by 25k since the end of summer, not sure if the opening of MGM Springfield effects them or the end of summer, or having a bad room. I thought fall/winter brought out poker players, not summer.

Interesting. So the revenue trend is down for poker at RWC. And, I assume, the profitability too. Its worse than the experts predicted when this site was chosen for a casino. Great job NYS/Cuomo/Casino Comm...every proposed location you chose for non-Indian casino sucks and is imploding. Complete ineptitude. Only NY could turn a no-lose situation like casinos into a bad bet for taxpayers. How long before they ditch the tables and wheel machines into the poker room in Monticello? A shame.

Every poker room is down after the end of the summer. Poker rooms thrive in the summer, not the fall/winter. It's not just this casino, it's one of the slowest seasons for poker. If you thought fall and winter were busier than the summer you were mistaken.

Every one of the NYS Casinos are doing worse than projected. Financial projections are just that, projections, and are usually best case scenarios to sell the investors.

Corrupt Cuomo licensed RWC because it's being run by Empire Resorts and he wanted to protect the revenue from the NYC Racinos which is why they said no to Caesars and New York Live in Harriman and the one in Sterling Forest. Those locations would have been gold mines being so close to the city and NNJ.

I think the bigger issue facing the NY casinos is that they were forced to spend a ton more money than necessary. The licensing process put a huge emphasis on how much money they were going to spend in construction costs. So they were forced to oversestimate revenues to justify the huge debt they had to take on just to get selected for a license.

This may be an issue but it’s not a bigger issue than proximity. If they would’ve picked locations based on financial considerations rather than politics they could’ve spent trillions on construction and had no worries. Instead they put them in areas no closer to the average New Yorker who was already playing at Borgata or Foxwoods and given no good reason to go to a NY casino.

That explanation would only apply to RWC. But the problem is plaguing all 4 of the NY non Indian casinos.

Undoubtedly there are locations closer to NYC than RWC that would do better but short of putting it in Westchester, NYC or Nassau they would still struggle to deal with the huge costs of building a megaresort when a less expensive casino could succeed

Re: Resorts World Catskills Thread - FAQ in First Post

OK, the whole NYS Casino ballot, selection pageant, etc. is a huge boondoggle, something we should have expected from "Cuomo the Second" in this putrid blue state. Again, only they could f**k up state licensed gambling. And RWC will have to find ways to tread water by begging the deep pocketed malaysians and probably the taxpayers. But what about managing the poker room and growing the tournament product? Why are they abandoning this? Put some decent guaranteed tourneys on the schedule. Clearly the decision has been made not to do this since they had success in the multi flight $300 buy in tourney in Sept.

Wasn't the license application fee 1MM? Why did they accept applications from other locations closer to the city if they weren't going to consider any of them anyway? They said the reason none were chosen was due to it possibly hurting Yonkers and Aqueduct Raceway (which is also a Resorts World property. Do you smell the corruption yet?) Their conrads were already caught rigging the bidding for state contracts for hundreds of millions of dollars during the buffalo billions scam.

I'm not saying there isn't corruption. I'm saying the corruption isn't the reason the casinos are struggling. They are struggling because of the built in parameters of the system. They would have struggled even if the license were given out in a non corrupt manner because the very qualifications called for we're the problem.

Sweeter spot would have been Middletown near 84 - 20 minutes closer from the city and Jersey.

The decision was made at the top that the casino had to be in Sullivan. That's where the governor and Senator Bonacic wanted it. Sullivan is very depressed. The Orange locations all would have performed better but Sullivan needed the jobs so they got the casino.

Re: Resorts World Catskills Thread - FAQ in First Post

That was a bad decision that went against logic, economics, and what the experts knew and advised. Now the NY Casinos will be the runts of the litter and the neighboring states will eat our lunch. The mayor in Newburgh begged for the casino. That location ~1 hour from NYC would have been a different story. And with the taxes that a successful casino (and probably by now an expanding casino resort) would have generated for the state - they could have given a portion to crappy Sullivan Co. Now we have a casino 90+ miles from NYC (evidently too far to entice people to go there instead of CT or Poconos or AC) that will need taxpayer help, instead of throwing off revenue to the state and locals.
