This thread is for discussion of news/events in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, as well as a place to ask questions about poker in the area. This is also the place for discussions about the smaller card rooms in the area that do not warrant an individual venue thread.

There's talk of another TCH in Las Colinas, perhaps by the end of the year.

Has anyone tried out The Fort in Aledo?

How long are the wait times at TCH? Every time I look on Poker Atlas the waitlist is 20+ deep.

Always sign up for games on the app before you arrive. Then you have one hour to get to TCH and check in before you are booted from the list. You should move up the list quite a bit by doing that. Whether you will have to wait depends on what day/time you are arriving, what games you signed up for, and how many tables are running. Saturday is the absolute worst because that's when the big tournament is running. When that tournament starts there are very few tables allocated for cash games.

If you are playing 1/2 NL, then I'd expect the list to move very quickly most of the time. Although, if you play 1/2 then you have options. Poker House is just 10 minutes from TCH and seems to regularly run at least 4 or 5 1/2 tables. Peaks is 5 minutes from Poker House and regularly runs a couple 1/2 games. Often times Peaks employees are playing in those games and will give their seat up when you arrive.

I played within the first couple of months of opening so some things may have changed. ..

It is a very nice room. Dealers are for the most part competent. Floor and manager are very professional. Thought the hourly was prob too high, but works for the location. Looks like they are starting to offer specials on that.

I played mostly day time hours. Usually have 2-3 games going. Usually 1/2 and some dealer choice game.

My biggest gripe is that they have a lot of mix game players and there is often pressure to switch a single 1/2 game to some kind of mix or dealers choice. I think this is bad for the room for a variety of reasons.

I understand that you can't stop players from asking to switch the game, and everyone has to agree to the change, but there are some dealers who encourage this. I'm sure because it makes the game bigger, $400 v $1000 max buy in. But this puts a ton of pressure on new players and can ruin the experience.

I had concerns with one security guard. He seemed a little to focused on the game girls. Security is a big deal for me in these games. Overall I'd say security is excellent, though.

Randomly doing parking lot checks, watching the door closely, keeping an eye on player arguments., etc.

Player pool is probably what you would expect. They do the bomb pots every dealer change like everyone else.

I had to make some adjustments with their hourly and bomb pot/DC games. Really have to know how to navigate those spots. They take a long time to play out, costing you hands per hour,, and I know they hurt me until I got a little better with them.

I do not generally like playing in the Texas clubs for a few reasons, but I'd say overall the Fort is worth a visit. They have a tournament in a couple of weeks that looks interesting.

Why do all the Texas rooms seem to not have auto shufflers?

Room is time rake so auto shufflers don't increase revenue but of course increase costs, the -EV for the room.

(This is what I have been told by several who frequent the room. But there are also those who claim all the auto shufflers outside of regulated casinos are subject to stacking the deck.)

Considering a trip to Texas to play in these deep stacked games I've heard so much about. But when looking at every room listed on poker atlas in Dallas at 1pm on a sat all I see are 3 1k max 2/5 games with no 5-10 list. Do these games no longer run or are they elsewhere?

DFW has never been the hot bed of TX poker. Look to Austin and Houston. Though Houston biggest games are mostly PLO.

My understanding from talking to people over the years is that the companies that sell the auto shufflers won't sell maintenance contracts outside of regulated casinos. So you can buy secondhand machines, but you have to do secondhand servicing also...and we've all seen how balky they can.

Apparantly Tarrant County Sherriffs do not agree that the new model of poker room is legal. Of course they waited until there was a 100k guaranteed tournament going on so that they could confiscate the 100k.

From a Facebook post, edited to remove names:

Watauga Social Lounge was putting on an awesome tournament, about 20 minutes into the first level about 30 tarrant county sheriffs deputies joined the party. All are given citations for gambling. For you non-poker players - this is not a big deal for the players. just like a traffic ticket - no worries.

reddit post with a commenter claiming the police were complained to because the room wasn't putting all the money into the prize pool https://www.reddit.com/r/poker/comme...om_in_tarrant/

The room wasn’t putting all the rebuys into the player pool. They were taking a rake from the rebuys outside what was advertised. A player complained during the tournament and got banned. He complained to the police. This is different from what all other rooms are doing

The 2/5 is match stack. $1k is just the initial buy-in when the table opens. 5/10 has never run with any consistency in Dallas.

Auto shufflers are very expensive. They don't make sense for the membership fee business model.

Hopefully that is the reason. It was back in February when the player got banned for making a stink about the room taking a cut of the prize pool. There are now multiple rooms in Tarrant County so we should know pretty quickly if this was an isolated case. I heard there were about 30 deputies that showed up.

Houston hasn't fallen into the Gulf of Mexico yet because Dallas sucks soooooo much.

Last year the 2/5 NL hold’em games at TCH Dallas were the best hold’em in the state. I’d imagine that’s still the case unless the lodge has passed them up.
