You won't miss a thing if you only play at the Peppermill.

Why did SL spread NL 1/3 instead of 1/2? I feel like the room would get more traffic with a lower limit game.

And the room is wayyy too big, like 20 tables and only 2 or 3 are ever in use.

It all demonstrates how clueless poker management, and ElDo/SL higher ups are about poker in general. With the only operational place in all of downtown offering poker, they move it from a very good location at Eldorado (great walkby exposure) to the back of the neighboring casino, where no one notices it. And SilLeg has attempted poker before, with elec.table, with no success.

The ElDo people used to start a game at a moments notice, get players in a game instead of waiting around. Now, at SL, waitlists grow to over 10, as high as 18, with no game start up. Perhaps they've cut back on dealers they have in place. Clearly, they are getting outdrawn and out-promo'ed by Peppermill. But, its been done before, go from a smaller, intimate room to a larger, brighter place, and the business drops off.

So it wasn't the room, but the ops and intagibles. And I stay at Peppermill now

I agree with you. I loved the ElDo room. Lots of good stories and games over the years.

And to be fair, Cal Neva still has poker but I think it's just $10 tourneys lol. I'm not sure if they even get cash games going

Any updates about Harveys poker room at Lake Tahoe? I will be there 7/4-7/7? Do they have 2/5, 5/10 NL any Mix Games, MTT's?

Harvey's hasn't changed in decades but you'll be up over the 4th, which is by far one of the busiest times of the year. They'll have 2/3 and 3/5 spread, maybe higher, depending on demand.

Just another bump before the trip.

I will stay at Lake Tahoe next to Harveys 7/4-7/7.

Do they run any mixed games, PLO or 5/10NL? I might even drive to Reno( Peppermill? ) for good games?

What actions, game selection should I expect during those days?

Odds are no mixed games, no PLO, and only a remote chance of 5/10 running. On a holiday weekend such as this, many ppl from Reno head out of town so the action at Harveys will likely be better than Peppermill.

2-3 No Limit Texas Holdem 4
5-10 Omaha 8/Better F/K 1
3-5 NL / 1-2 PLO RxR 1

I played at Harveys for 3 days usually they have several 2/3 tables and at night they start 3/5.
Action is OK, pretty soft tables but lots of min buy ins ( min buy in is 40..., max 300 at 2/3)

I'm not sure on any places to eat but for poker Peppermill is by far the best. Great tables, TVs, action and free food (soup, doughnuts, etc) for players.

Bumping this thread because I want to subscribe; my life is shaping up so that I hope to play in Reno for three days per month. I concur with the general consensus that the Peppermill is the place to play.

I just spent some time (half hour) reading through this entire thread start to finish. My parents met while working at the Cal Neva Lodge in Crystal Bay and when I was born, we moved to Carlsbad in San Diego where I live now. I head up to Tahoe every once in a while to visit extended family and also because I love Lake Tahoe. I was there in September 2019 and played at Harvey's. Only there on a Wednesday night, and there were only (2) 2/3 games running. It was fun to play there. There are 8 casinos in Lake Tahoe: 4 on the South Shore and 4 on the North Shore and only one currently offers poker. I just called Grand Lodge, Crystal Bay Club, MontBleu and Hard Rock today to confirm this. I haven't heard from the Tahoe Biltmore or Jim Kelley's Tahoe Nugget but I am pretty certain these rooms do not offer poker. Can somebody confirm this? Thanks!

North Shore
Grand Lodge at Hyatt Regency - No Poker
Crystal Bay Club - No Poker
Tahoe Biltmore - No Poker
Jim Kelley's Tahoe Nugget - No Poker
Cal-Neva Lodge - CLOSED; Expected to reopen as Nobu Hotel Casino (Ellison)

South Shore
Harvey's - Mostly 2/3 NL, Bigger games during WSOP Circuit Oct-Nov
Harrah's - No Poker
MontBleu - No Poker
Hard Rock - No Poker
Lakeside Inn - CLOSED

Before covid-19, the only casino in Lake Tahoe that still had a poker room was Harvey's on the south shore. When Tahoe casinos open soon, Harvey's will remain closed for awhile. When Harvey's does reopen, it is questionable if and when the poker room would reopen. Sadly, this could mean the end of poker in Tahoe.

Reno's major poker rooms will probably survive (Peppermill & Atlantis, and Silver Legacy because it is downtown).

I spent a night last summer at Crystal Bay. No poker at any of the casinos there. The Biltmore has a sign that said poker room but it was closed and I believe converted to a small non smoking slots parlor.

Da-Nit,

Thanks for that update info. I did get ahold of the Biltmore today (or rather they replied to my Facebook message from a few days ago) and you are correct, they no longer offer poker.

Im wondering if you or anybody knows whether Jim Kelley's Tahoe Nugget offers any poker. I highly doubt they do.

Lastly - Does anybody have any updated information on the fate of the Cal-Neva Lodge. Last I heard, Larry Ellison was planning to turn it into a Nobu Hotel and Casino. But not much information has been said.
