I just moved back to the Southern Georgia area (much to my dismay after spending 2 awesome years in Cincinnati, OH and playing at Hollywood) and found that Georgia only has Casino boats to play any live poker.

Can anyone from the area tell me if this Casino boat is worth it? Or am I better off trying to find a home game?

FWIW...I play 1/2NL and tourneys up to $100ish. Nearest real casino is 4 hrs away in Florida, so that's not an option....

I appreciate any advice/reviews/directions to good home games if possible

Don't know about the boat but depending on where you are in Southern GA, you should be within a couple of hours of a Room in FL. Jacksonville is only a little over two hours from Savannah.

If you want to play on a regular weekly basis, probably need to find a home game, or find the underground games. I don't know about where your at, but around here there are several bars that run Tourneys and Cash games. I have played in a few of the tourneys, but they are not regulated in any way and they seem to have pretty high rakes. Also the dealers can be awful at times. Right now I just try to get down to FL a couple of times a month to play. I also play in a home game that we generally have about once a month.

If you go to some of the bar tourneys I am sure you can get some info on local undergrounds, I played in one a couple of times but I just don't feel comfortable so I just make the FL drive.

Terminal,

I'm located in Statesboro (where GA Southern is)....are you anywhere close to this area?

For me, Jax area is about 3-3 1/2 hrs away....so I can't make that trip too often. That's why I was seeing if this casino boat was worth it.

I've found a couple home games around here, but they're all drunken college kids and I'm a little too old for that scene (in my early 30's)....

So if you know of any other advice for playing poker in this neck of the woods, send it my way. Ill def check to see about the bar games, as I heard one bar does tourneys but hadn't checked it out yet.

My daughter just graduated from there, as did I many years ago. I am up near Macon, so not really close.

For you JAX is probably the closest. I understand they are building a new poker room in JAX as well. Supposed to be pretty nice, I hear.

I have played in Jasper, Monticello, Ocala, Ebro, and JAX. Monticello and Jasper are the same distance from me and are the closest. Jasper used to be a nice place with lots of tables and they ran a bounty tourney on Saturdays that I really liked. Then it died and they might have two tables going on a Saturday if they are lucky. So I started going to Monticello, it's kind of a dump. The drive to Monticello, although about the same distance as Jasper, is easier. I can get off I-75 and take 300 and it's much less traffic.
Last few times I went there they had a decent number of players on Saturday nights. I was there about 4 weeks ago and they had 7 or 8 tables going when I left.

My favorite place right now is Ocala. They have been running a promotion for the last two months of giving out $300.00 for high hand every half hour from 2 to midnight on Saturdays, $150.00 on limit tables. That has been drawing in a bunch of players and the games are really good. Just went this last weekend. I did pretty well, but the buddy that went with me did really well. He won a couple hundred at the table plus he hit two high hands while he was there for additional $600.00.

As far as JAX goes I like the Orange Park room the best. In fact I am planning on going in two weeks to play the WPT tourney they have on August 5th.

I know Ocala would be a big drive for me, but I think I'm definitely going to have to check out Orange Park. If they are hosting a WPT event, the room has to be pretty good.

Depending on how long it takes my $ to get to me from Merge, ill be taking a trip there soon. Unfortunately, I've been waiting a month for my $400, but that's all I got for a poker bankroll right now.

My agreement with the wife was no money for poker from anything besides work bonuses or other poker winnings....since I moved from Cincinnati, I've had to spend my bankroll on living expenses; so all I got is what I have online.

So, if no one posts on here with anything nice to say about the casino boat in Sav, ill head to Orange Park as soon as I get my money offline...

Btw, are they doing satellites for the WPT event? I know Hollywood would do like sats from like $300-$500....

I truly miss LIVE poker!

Well it's just a regional thing. The tourney I want to play on Saturday is a $300+$40. I think they have been running satellites all month. The website gives you all that info though.

Don't know, I don't play limit so I don't keep up. Also I only go on the weekends, and I know they have a bunch of limit tables going. The highest, I think, was either 2/4 or 3/6. To be honest I really can't remember.

Bump....in case someone knows anything about this boat (I think it may be named or was named the Diamond Casino cruise).

I can't find any reviews online from any decent sites...

Help me out 2p2!

I live in Savannah, and play on the boat occasionally. It is indeed Diamond Casino boat. They spread 2 tables of $2/5 NL 200-500 buyin. Pretty soft games. They have a $120 turbo tourney on way out, and one on way back in. Cant "gamble" with real money on way out and back so they do that. If you have any more questions let me know.

Dirt,

Is the only game spread 2/5? Their website says they have 1/3, but the site looks like it aint been updated. If 2/5 is it, how hard is it to get a spot due to only 2 tables running?

Also with the $120 tourneys...is it basically just a jam-fest? If so, how many people are playing these on average?

Also, what days do they do poker? I heard they only spread poker Fri-Sun, and no poker Mon-Thurs. Is this true?

Lastly, is the trip fairly smooth or is it rocky a lot (being on a boat and all)?

I apologize for the tons of questions....just needed to ask before heading out there.

It is now only 2/5. They have a sign up board. Usually 2 tables running. Sign up get a seat. As people bust seats open. Just sign up when u get on board.

The tourney gets 12 to 20 people. I think it's like 6k chips 7 min levels. Last about an hour. Starts ok but blinds go up quick. Kinda like turbo sng, yes only fri and sat nighs right now.

As far as rocky usually it's fine. Occasionally some waves and bouncy but it's usually fine and I've never had an issue. Gl

Thanks for the info man! Since they only run poker on fri/sat nights....is there any good bar games or home games in the sav area to recommend?

I've been back in GA 4 months and need my live poker fix...haha!

I work a lot of Fridays and Saturdays (I work in retail), so it'll be tough to get on the boat, but ill have to find a way if no decent home games are available!

Maybe ill see you on the boat sometime soon then! Thanks again for answering the questions!
