El San Juan and Intercontinental, I think, were the names of the two hotels that had poker rooms. They only spread NL when I was there (Memorial Day 2008). They actually had a couple of very large games going that were at least $25/$50NL. I played in a 2/5 game for a few hours at each casino.

Play at the Ritz. I used to go to PR a lot to party and what the ex local above said is true. If you are really jonesing to play go to Ritz but otherwise....

I was in PR two weeks ago. Played three nites at the Intercontinental, where they had 2-3 tables going (we also checked out the Ritz, but they had just one table going at the time and we returned to the IC). Buy-ins from $100 to $500, rake was capped at $10, but also took an extra dollar for each person that reached showdown for a royal flush bonus. A lot higher rake than you'd find in LV or AC, but still a much better deal than the raked underground games I'm used to where I play.

Extremely slow, so that might get you on tilt if you're impatient like me. I don't think I tilted, but was definitely not in a good mood while I played. I'd guess 15-17 hands per hour; lots of conversation and needless coloring up of chips (it was customary for the dealer to very slowly color up chips for anyone who was leaving the table). Profitable trip, but not very enjoyable for me.

Do Puerto Rico residents have to pay taxes on gambling winnings?

Can someone tell me if the Ritz has 1-2 NL? I play 2-5 but the wife has only ever played 1-2. If not the Ritz is there 1-2 anywhere on the island?

Thanks in advance.

i was in isla verde in may...not even worth playing here...i stayed at the waldorf (right between the ritz and the intercontinental, who both have games sometimes) since the rake is so high and the game selection limited, and the beaches so nice and the weather so great, why even play here? i didnt play cards for the week

Well I'll be staying La Conquistador in Fajardo. I live in Georgia where B&M Poker is illegal so I did want to get a little playing time in while out. Turns out I'm a bit far from the Ritz... does anyone know if there is any Poker closer to there?

Also, macking on the local Puerto Rican population was a goal as well although my Spanish is near non-existant. But I also got the sense that I will be in a touristy area and may have to resort to encounters with desperate visitors.

Just got back from there this week. The Intercontinental is the only place they get a consistent cash game (2-3 tables). The Ritz now spreads tourneys only and I believe they are Thursday and sunday, around 120 buy in (?). Both those are about 45 to 60 min from your hotel. I heard that they are playing some days of the week at Palmas del Mar, which is much closer to El conquistador where you are staying. I would try to call them and see if you can speak with the floor person for poker who probably knows best. The game is super slow with high rake as people have mentioned, but the play is so loose that it makes up for it. GL on your trip!

Thanks for the info CrazyFoxxx, I do appreciate it!

It looks like Palmas del Mar is a region- do you know the specific name of the hotel there?

No prob! I haven't been there in a while but its a pretty specific resort area with a large hotel/casino inside. Four Points by Sheraton I believe. It would be pretty hard not to find since I think its the only casino in the area. I would call the hotel and ask because more than likely that's where they play.

Played a tournament at the ritz carlton. With blinds at half the average stack, you'd get four limperswho would all fold to a shove.

games there suck...rake is high...i saw two 2-5 games going at the intercontinental but the stacks looked like 1-2 stacks...my reccomendation would be just to not play...the beaches and resort pools are beautiful like the weather...drink some medallas and find some chicks....i was there for 4 nights and didnt play cards once and was so happy all week

I stayed at the Marriott Stellaris resort in Condado beach. They had one 2/5 limit game going. The rake was high, but the action was pretty good. I heard the Intercontinental has NLHE games.
