I really enjoy this place. The staff and room are excellent.
However, thier MoneyMaker tournament last night was terrible.

I mean they skipped so many levels it was an Allin fest by the 2nd hour. You would think for such a big promotion they would give you more play. However, GOD forbid the cash players might have to wait.

I also hate the fact you have to physically buyin. It's pretty Ridiculous for people who aren't in the local Erie area.

The room has posted a an Invitation only Free roll on January 29th. To qualify you need 20 hours of play between January 1st -January 21st. Limityed to 90 entries.

I find it Interesting that the freeroll will have a prize pool of $4500.00.

I have seen freerolls for $5,000, $10,000 but not 4,500, it looks like they are counting every penny.

Not complaining, I just find that prizepool total to be interesting.

Turbo - if you could post a generic "rake has been addressed" note if they change it to "sane" levels that would be great. (I don't want to get you in trouble) I was going to go up there with a couple of friends when I got a chance but that rake is crazy. I'm moving for the next 6 weeks so it would probably be in Feb but still. You are right. It is costing you players.

FYI: I sent an email asking about the rake structure and this is the response I got:

>>
Our rake is the same as other PA poker rooms.

We rake 10% of the pot but do not exceed $5.00. (Meaning – a $32.00 pot will have a $3.00 rake. A $550.00 pot will have a $5.00 rake.)

We take $1.00 for our Bad Beat Jackpot once there is $10.00 in a pot.

Perhaps this is where the $6.00 figure came from, but that extra $1.00 funds the bad beat. it is not a rake.
<<

Thoughts?

Every room I have played in Pa adheres to "no flop,no drop " except presque isle, and I find it utterly ridiculous to have a bbj $1 taken out with no chance of winning, ie no flop. So no they do NOT rake the same as other rooms- by the numbers yes they do but in practical terms they do not.

Great point. I will send that to the poker room manager and see what I get.

I played at Presque Isle last week, I straddled, two $6 callers then player in MP made it $18, Blinds folded, I repopped to $56, everyone folded. no flop.... Dealer rakes $3 plus $1 for the BBJ. That's Absolutely Ridiculous.

According to the poker room manager, (who has been very responsive to all of this)

"
: As far as the ‘no flop, no drop’ – we did try to get that passed before we opened and were told by the state we could not.
$1.00 had to be extracted for the bad beat once the pot reached $10.00.
I have submitted for an amendment to that rule (just as we had to submit to use black boxes that adhere to our tables instead of the acrylic ones we started with), but have yet to hear from the state. If and when we do, we will surely let everyone know! It’s a bit of battle to get things ‘changed’ here in PA as they open a room according to the ‘temporary gaming rules’ which were put in place when tables were first passed. Even though other rooms have made changes along the way – each room stands on its own and therefore must submit to have things changed from within."

Would dealers get in big trouble if they just "let it slide" on the pre-flop pots? The room is probably too new for any of the dealers to push it with the "rules" like that. Do the managers perform random audits on that type of thing as part of job review? Does the state send in undercover auditors to make sure the rake and BBJ are being pulled according to room specific rules? I have no idea.

Ok, so $1 extracted for each hand where the pot exceeds $10... I can live with that for a while

But what about the actual rake, in the hand I described above, $3 was extracted prior to seeing a flop?

I have played at Rivers many times before PI opened and I didn't see the same practice there

According to her reply to me, apparently the state allows different rooms to appeal and change rules individually. Seems like a strange way to do things but the government of the great State of PA isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

i'm headed up to the poker room now to play for a few hours then set up on the stage for a gig tomorrow, and then again tomorrow for a good five hour session before i'll be performing there.

in general i like the room a lot. soft play, decent people, and about five miles from my apartment. i'll deal with the rake anyday just for the convenience

I've been there 4 or 5 times and the only games I've seen running at all were 1/3 nl holdem. Once there was one 2/5 nl holdem table running.

Maybe some people who have been there more have seen others. But I would definately call first if your coming from a distance.

This place sucks. I stopped by there a couple weeks ago over Christmas at 9:30 PM, and they had 2 tables running. Granted it was a weekday, but this place has no action, terrible dealers, and apparently from what I read, excessive rake practices.

The only positive thing I can say is that the games are very soft. But since the dealers suck, you may see 6 hands an hour. Save time, don't go to this sorry place.

Thinking on a day trip to check out the poker room at PIDs, quick questions...do they allow iPod use at the tables? And do they spread any higher limits on a Sat night like 2-5nl?

There was a 1/3 plo game last night for awhile. After awhile it switched to 1/3 ple.

Parts of the holidays were really slow, while other nights were great.
The rake is fine other than preflop situations.
And the room average is ~24 hands an hour, with plenty of dealers getting 25+.
And games are very soft. Constantly finding players who have never played before.

Just my $0.02.

iPods are allowed.
If 2/5nl runs, fri/sat nights would be the best chance for it. Imo though, I'd still play 1/3nl there over most 2/5 games. A lot of people who would play 2/5 don't buy in more than 300ish anyways, so why play shallow vs the same people, plus some of the "better" players. You can make comparable hourly at1/3 games with lower variance.
Hope that helped

Some of the local hotels give discounts if your planning on visiting the casino. Here is a link to the page with the info.
