ERIE, Pa.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board says Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Erie can add a poker room.

The gaming board approved the poker tables on Wednesday as part of a hearing in which it also renewed the casino's slot machine license. Pennsylvania casinos must get such licenses renewed every three years.

Casino officials are hoping the poker tables will bring in about $500,000 more revenue each year before expenses.

Anyone know when this might get up and running? May be a legitimate option for Cleveland East-siders.

Cleveland WASP - To answer your question... I think they had plans for this eventuality when they built the additional "Table Games" area last year so it is probably a matter of training and equipment so my (completely uneducated) guess is 3-4 months.

I'm sure they will not keep it a secret though.

papokernews.com interviewed the new poker room manager. She said 8 to 10 weeks at that time, so we're down to 6 to 8 weeks now. Been waiting a long time for them to open a poker room. The rumors started that it was going to be back in january then march. When it didn't happen I gave up.

Excellent. I visit Erie fairly regularly and when they run tournaments later on, I will be sure to jump in! But with only 9 tables wonder how they can do MTTs that attract more than 90 runners, especially when the room is limited in size, according to the drawings they submitted to the PGCB.

Right, and on top of that, I have to assume they'll keep running cash games during tournaments, since they make more money on cash, so that eliminates at least 4 or 5 tables from the mtt. I don't see them being able to handle more than 40 or 50 tops in a mtt. But even so, with this and cleveland opening a casino, I'm glad to be getting some more options on where to play.

I just saw a billboard in Cleveland advertising poker coming to Presque Isle in October.

Good catch. Looking at PI's website, they plan to get Chris Moneymaker to show up and open the room! http://www.casinoinerie.com/casino/poker
They also are setting up for tournaments - look at the webpage categories (yet to be activated) for tournament events, winners, calendar so anticipation will start building.
So good news, but they need to think about room capacity - expect full tables and alternates.

I clicked on the link and discovered that Christine Stacy will be the new poker room manager. Chris used to deal at Montaineer and then became one of their major assistant poker room managers. She's a top notch manager and a great person. The room should do well with her in charge.

Oct3 is start date, according to: http://www.anteupmagazine.com/news/2220.htm

Still wonder how they will schedule and juggle all the satellites with a nine table set up. If this becomes a lake Erie poker center, expect demands to add more tables. How they can do that room-wise remains the question. Cleveland may then see and raise PI on capacity.

So glad PI is adding poker. Now I have another great pit stop on I-90 when travelling. Its a beautiful venue, track and casino.
One thought about MTTs- do the number of tables for cash games affect the number of tables for MTTs? in PA?., ...ie- can you have a 15 table MTT at a PA casino that is licensed for 9 cash tables? in some juristictions you may, in others you may not.
If so in PA., they could run the MTTs in a separate tournament area not subject to their poker table count. Anyone know the laws, rules, etc.?

Does the room go dark at night or is it open 24 hours?

According the their website, it stays open as long as there is a table going. If all tables die, they close till 10 AM the next morning.

Hey guys, I'm a long time lurker on this forum, finally just registered. I'm heading up to Erie this weekend to play, how are the PLO games? 8/o PLO? I usually play at Borgata in AC if anyone has ever played and can compare. Has anyone played any of the tournaments? If so, how are the turnouts or are they just running the sng into the moneymaker thing?

If anyone in the area has any interest in playing PLO let me know as I'm flying in early friday morning and not leaving until sunday afternoon. Would rather play PLO than NLH.

How often would you say they have got the 2-5NL going? I'll definitely be a regular there very soon, especially if they got a regular 2-5 or 5-10 going.

2/5 will run frequently, but not every day. It's also reg infested with guys who aren't going to spew with like second pair or TP on ****ty boards. They sometimes run a 2/5 PLO game, but otherwise 2/5nl has been the biggest game they offer.

Anyone have info on how the Moneymaker Satelittes are going so far?

Are they getting filled up?

The 83$ sattelites are a joke. Everyone starts with 5k, and the blind structure is like 25/50, 50/100, 100/200, 100/200/50, then it jumps to 300/600, 600/1.2k 1.5/3k 4k/8k. I won my first round seat but would never enter that tournament again if I had to go back in time. When it was 3 handed, blinds were 4k/8k with 50k total chips in play :-\
But yes show up by 6 if you want to play one and they start at 7. They haven't been filling up nearly as quickly since wed.

From what I heard last nite you actually have to sit at the table and wait for it to start? (Can't play cash while waiting) If true that sucks even more.

I hope the structure for the $340's on Friday are better. I was planning on playing one of those.

However, I don't see how they are going to get enough people to fill them up??? They only have 20 or so satelitte entries I believe.

Yeah you have to sit there until it registers, but I got a seat to mine like 10 mins before 6 when they started to reg. After you reg you can play cash for an hour until the tournament starts but I chose to just grab something to eat instead. If you're already playing cash you can just keep an eye out on the tournament table and grab one of the empty seats when it looks like its about to fill or a little before 6.
