The signs claim the casino re-do will be finished in Spring 2023, but that's now. Rumors (in this thread) indicate a new poker room will be part of it.

I’ve heard they are lining up dealers and we’re targeting spring poker opening. This was back in December.

Lately have heard august or fall opening of poker, guess it’s also going from intended spot by bingo hall down to old sports bar area on main casino floor.

I’ve heard it’s pushed back (again) now to early 2024.

I played at GVC in Elgin, IL today and I brought up potto. All of the players and dealers that cared to comment said something to the effect of "Nah, they aint never getting poker back there." and "They did all the dealers wrong when they let them go with no notice , and then kept saying poker was coming back."

I'd been holding out hope, but this was disheartening.

Just like when playing the game .. never say never when it comes to casino, especially tribal casino, decisions. Without actually seeing the numbers, it's very hard to believe that poker was not a profit source. But once the floor space is lost .. as well as the staff .. it can be a tough process to get a commitment to start it up from tribal counsel. I don't even know if their meetings are 'open'.

Can't imagine that the home game scene isn't thriving, but getting (or wanting) to get into those circles may be a task.

Our home casino started poker back up in December and is already moving the tables in lieu of something else .. smokers! While it's still unclear what will occupy the current space there's talk of making it a smokers room since the casino has been smoke free for quite some time.

Hang in there .. It appears that Rivers had a tough weekend staff-wise so the waits were a bit long there.

One thing is for certain .. interest in poker is very high and with Fall/school/football coming quickly you should safely assume it will not wane going into 2024. GL

I follow Pota's Facebook page and the remodel is slowly coming along & they continue to open/re-open things that have been closed for awhile. I wouldn't rule out poker there just yet.

Latest talk is March 2024. Still too long if the case, but I’ll be glad for sure. Rivers at 1hr 15 minutes too much commute given my schedule.

I heard something similar.

Is there any poker in Wisconsin except at Pota? If so, it seems like a great market to crack.

(I heard March also, tho one of many rumors that have never come to fruition)

Only casino poker available in Wisconsin is Green Bay/Oneida and Turtle Lake/St Croix. Green Bay can be decent, PLO and 1/3, 2/5. Turtle Lake is 1/2 only pretty much.

Rivers and Elgin are closer (75 minutes) than Green Bay (1:45 to 2 hrs) to Milwaukee.

Lots of home/private games, YMMV regarding quality of those.

Last time I went to onidea they stopped running the PLO game. Said it was moved to a home game.

Regarding poto, heard an ad on the radio ink MKE and they mentioned poker as part of a way to earn rewards along with the out games. Seems like they plan on opening it soonish. Been closed for 3 years already

When playing at a Chicago area room recently, I heard March or April for the poto room to reopen. Anyone else hear anything?

I'd heard similar, although that was on Facebook & I don't consider that to be a reliable source.

I’ve heard March - April lately myself, through people that work at casino….but even they aren’t certain as the timetable has shifted numerous times already.

I asked my host today and she said April-ish along with the new sportsbook build out.

job listings for poker dealers will be the early indicator.

Once we see the dealer job posting we'll know it's close.

Great update .. It will be nice to have someone familiar with the facility/administration in there to get things started back up and perhaps make a push for tournaments sooner than later. While I don't think that getting 'traffic' will be an issue, tournaments are an excellent way to get Players back in the room. Even if the Home Game scene has taken over some/most of the larger stakes action Players still should want to play against a larger Player Pool than what they see in a private setting. GL
