2 months without a post? Pretty quiet in here ...

Well, 'we' come over to Poto plenty, so here's your chance to come to West Michigan and see Gun Lake during their 1-yr anniversary.

Short notice, but this Saturday from Midnight to Midnight there will be $500 hourly high hands. With 'only' 14 tables this will create plenty of action all day long.

Secondly ... Gun Lake is holding a PLO tournament on September 28th at Noon. $250/210 (15K chips, 30 min levels), 2 re-entries if needed with surrender option as well as an optional $100/90 (10K chips) add-on at the end of Level 4 (end of registration). A last minute late reg/re-entry (with add-on) will still garner you 41.5bb at 300/600. There is also $200 hourly HH starting at 3PM on that day as well.

Come on over .. They do have partner hotels, but they are about 20 minutes north or south. I'll be there as much as possible ... look for the blue 'fishing' hat. GL

The fired like 1500 employees officially 2 weeks ago. 0% chance any poker for probably 6-12 months.

(Yes. More than half the casino work force - "fired")
Yep. Slots only, everything else, table games etc. closed. No walks-ins, need reservations, must be Fire Keepers Club member. Masks required at all times. Limited number of patrons allowed.

MSPT did hold a (10-handed) tournament in Iowa this past weekend. Poto could consider holding a tournament only if they wanted to .. not sure what's happened in WI over that last few weeks since we visited in July with very few restrictions in place.

Poto did use WSOPc dealers for the MSPT in the past, so even though they wouldn't necessarily have any cash games going, they could run a tournament if they wanted to, if the state gaming would allow it.

As discussed in basically every poker CV thread, poker is labor intensive and until casinos can increase/maximize the (easy) slot revenue they aren't going to 'invest' in gaming that puts both employee and patron at an increased risk .. and it more labor intensive to provide until restrictions are reduced. There is no clear path to poker at Poto right now. I have a buddy who frequents there and all inquires are answered the same .. 'no immediate plan that we know about' GL

They have to put the job openings on the website first. A buddy checks that often. They just hired table games director and table games are nowhere close to being put back in yet.

Still a ton of beatable slots on the floor though.

Their website now says "some" (live) table games opening Nov 1st.

Poker is not listed as one of them tho.

Sports betting will be coming to Poto by the end of 2022. Akin to what was recently approved for Oneida.

With no news on poker, I wonder if they are just putting the sportsbook in the current poker room. The old race book isn't big enough for their sportsbook plans.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to recall Potawatomi stating that the poker room was closed for good.

Do you recall from where you heard this? I have a feeling it's true, but I haven't actually heard them say it.

I believe it was on this site but quite awhile ago. I think it was friend of a friend who has a contact at Potawatomi. Maybe not the best source, I agree, but the way things look it's probably true. I mean, look how Horseshoe is dying. When Rivers opens the poker game will be over at these casinos.

Poto should've been making pretty good hay with poker, but with CV and who knows what kind of internal politics between 'games' managers you never know what might be going on behind the scenes. They had both the WSOPc and MSPT coming through twice a year plus other in-house events in a great location within the facility.

I participated in a Presidents Day $1k High Hand promo yesterday at a casino and they were loaded up .. they certainly made plenty of rake and probably had an increase in the promo fund even though they handed out over $13k on the day.

IMO the poker room at Poto was in an outstanding location .. but I think it's a horrible location for a sports book unless you somehow get food service in there. Most of the casinos don't really have a 'room', just a 'help' desk and then kiosks scattered around the property. If the mind set is that 'if build, will come' I'm super skeptical about patrons wanting to make the trek up the stairs and thus leaving the gaming floor to make a bet.

Rivers is still a pretty good hike from WI and I don't think they would be looking for tournament series to host. So that leaves a huge hole for poker in WI. Check out Bravo and see what Horseshoe Indy is doing in a poker starved area. GL

I was told the plans for pursuing the compact change allowing sports betting were in motion pre-covid. Pandemic hit and priorities shifted. Leads me to believe the book isn't coming at the expense of the poker room, or at least that may have been the case 2+ years ago.

FWIW: I had a direct interaction with a former poker room manager from a different casino in Wisconsin. He has contacts with high up personnel @ Poto. He's been told poker will be back at Poto/time frame between June and September, most likely closer to September. This person has fed me reliable information in the past (sports betting being enacted in Wisconsin).
