So I'm moving to the Milwaukee burbs from Maryland, which has a strong poker scene. I'm a part time dealer/player, but plan on playing full time in WI, mostly online, live cash at potawatomi, and travelling around the Midwest and east coast for tournaments. Just had some questions, dms would also be appreciated.

Is the 1/3 and plo action generally any good on the normal weekday?
Are the poker comps vs food prices decent value?
If things went south, and I decided to deal there for some supplemental income, are they treated well by players/MGMT, and tipped fairly?
Are there home games in the area to play/deal at, assuming I can meet the right people?
And do they ever run tournaments, apart from WSOPC, MSPT, HPT, etc...

Thanks for the help, greatly appreciated

What made you decide on Mil? IMO this is a 'decent' selection for location just from what I've seen from afar.

1) Per Bravo, there is very little down time in this room. It can be a bit nitty at the lower levels but generally speaking there are chips moving around.
2) Don't know anything about the comps .. not there enough.

3) Not so sure you can count on dealing at the same place you play.
4) There is no place in USA where home games aren't happening.

I hope some of the other more local players help you out, but I've never met anyone who was disappointed with the action at Poto. GL

1. 1/3 games are pretty soft, but tough to beat with the BBJ drop. PLO and 2/5 are all about who is in the game. There are several whales that play more PLO than NL, but you'll see them play both. PLO schedule is posted higher up in this thread, but games generally play very big. You can match biggest stack.
2. Comps are $1/hr. Others can answer better, but I believe you also get a $10 food voucher and then another $10 off if you play probably 40 hours a month.
3. You can't work at Potow and play. I think it's tough to get a job in the poker room. Upper casino management does not believe in having a lot of dealers, so usually the room is short staffed. Occasionally they pull people from the pits to deal if it's a busy weekend.
4. I have no personal experience with home games, but I've heard them discussed from time to time. Madison has a private facebook page that lists home games.
5. Tournaments- MSPT 4 times a year and WSOP once a year (Feb-Mar). I just heard they are going to start a $125 on Sundays at noon.

You might want to consider asking them about dealing during tournament series as a way in. Typically they bring in staff from other areas of the casino, and they are usually all terrible at dealing poker. I would think they'd prefer to bring in people with some poker dealing experience, but I don't know.

Comps are $1/hr and the food is the standard overpriced casino food, although you can find some decent deals in the food court. The Asian restaurant downstairs is very good, but dishes run around $15-20.

I don't play here much but the comps are a dollar an hour food options are okay food court closes late night I don't know much about being able to work there anything like that but I do know you could also play at the Horseshoe which is an hour and a half South which runs great games and has super soft action also. Milwaukee is a good area but not a great place for poker they're the only room within an hour to an hour and a half from what I heard the 5-5 PLO is super soft with big whales that dump and punt off tons of money

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm moving for my girlfriend who has family in the area. Definitely didnt plan on dealing/playing at the same time. I think that's only allowed in Vegas at the Rio during the series. I just meant if I lose significantly, and choose to deal to rebuild the roll. Id consider dealing the WSOPC if I didn't plan on playing half the events

Jump on the next plane and spend the next 4 days experiencing Poto during MSPT. This should make you feel very comfortable about your move. The only negative is that deer hunting started today but let's hope that the weather drives the herd back into the casino. GL

Does anyone know if there will be any wsop satellites before Feb 1st?

Nope. Satellites don't start till the WSOP crew gets here. Feb 1st is the first satellite.

All I can find is the actual circuit not the satellite tournaments

Sattys typically run 2-3 days (even day of) before each event, if they have enough interest. ME event sattys (or even SNGs) are more predictable once the crew shows up.

Wherever the circuit is right now, check out that casino's home site schedule. The WSOPc is almost nitty about running each location exactly like all the others. GL

Overall it’s a good game, I wouldn’t say it’s great. Weekdays, especially early are very hit or miss. Usually before 3:00 you are going to be at a table with all old men coffee. As the day goes on there is a good chance you will run into a whale or two. Weekends are good. It’s been more profitable for me than the 1/2 games I play but I wouldn’t say weekdays are amazing. Very few solid regs at 1/3 if any but that’s pretty much the case everywhere.

What a great weekend for MSPT! Came through at 1200 AM Thursday morning via a great rate at the casino hotel via Hotels.com and played some 2/5 through 330 AM or so. Good game, couple of tough cookies but $$ to be found.

They called in WSOPc Dealers to help with the load and that really proved to be a good decision as both the tournaments (Satty and Main) and cash went off really without issue from what I saw ... and I put in a lot of hours in.

Won two Satty seats but didn't have much luck in the Main Event ... Each of my starting tables had a player end up at Final Table plus a few more players cashed, including a WPT champion (Kevin Stamann?). The theme of the tournament was getting roasted on a bunch of Turns after either leading PF or Flop. Saturday I get it in 88 v 44 and the guy 4-flushes me!

They got a 5-10 going Friday night and had a bunch of run good there which put me up for the trip!!

I tend to agree with the comment above with a few tweaks. Hard to tell who was a reg and MSPT player in the 2/5 games, but I think there's a lot of cash to be made at 1/3 here ... as it was my previous trips. Certainly can't speak for weekdays but anyone with above average game should feel very comfortable in this room!! GL
