FYI, I made a website that has a list of all of the poker clubs in Portland proper. If you see anything I'm missing let me know! - Brian

Nice!

But I'm sad to say that King City is no longer. They had a great run of 4/8 O8 with kill last year, but didn't get enough business for their other games and had to close.

There are a couple of hostels in Portland. Not sure what the rules are regarding membership/age. Here are the links.

The Hawthorne one is directly across the street from Claudia's.

Thanks! I couldn't get anyone to verify that for me and I haven't been to all of the clubs in person. Site updated! :-D

In town for business a couple days, where's the best place to play Omaha (any variety). Staying near the river, north side if town.

Thanks

More Omaha (heavily Big O) at Portland Players Club than anywhere else in town

I got a postcard from Chinook Winds, Lincoln City OR, about their 'Fall Coast Classic Poker Tournament', scheduled for 9-16 thru 9-20-15. I know they've done this before, but I can't find out any other info about games/structures. No info on their website, an e-mail five days ago is unanswered. Anyone done this/these before, any info about that? TIA

If this is in the wrong area, please move. Sorry to bother if I have.....

Results from the February series are here: http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-tour...-poker-classic

I don't think they've posted structures yet--and can't find February's. I remember there were some weird accelerations in the ME structure this spring.

Hi all. I'm looking to get back into playing a bit of poker after a long layoff in the Portland area. I'm curious, does anyone know what the amount of shootouts vs. tournaments is at most the clubs in operation in the area? Just wondering what I should expect as its been so long since I've last played in Portland (when it was just tournaments). It looks like a lot of the tournament action is taken up by shootouts, but I don't know for sure. Anyhow, I'll try to report back myself after I get some visits in.

Typically more shootouts at Final Table starting at noon each day than anywhere else, though Encore's--which don't usually start until evenings weekdays--are softer in my experience. Either place is where you'll get the most tables in town.

Final Table after 7 pm is softer than Encore, but ymmv

But seriously Final Table Fri and Sat until close is printing money

Does 1k-2knl ever run? I'd like to play live every once in a while, but kind of hard to justify playing 500nl live as an online pro.

For some laid back, low stakes poker, give Claudia's a try. They have a HE tournament every night. And they have a NLHE cash game every afternoon during the week. The cash tournament/shoot out is just 25 cent / 50 cent blinds. Max buy-in of $60 with a $5 membership fee for the day.

On the weekends, they have a cash Omaha game that starts at noon. It's 25 cent / 50 cent - Pot Limit. This game is great fun. You can pick four cards, five cards, hi/lo, high only, and with or without a flop peek. The button picks.

I haven't played Final Table cash in a long time, but from past experience wouldn't disagree with Darrel and PocketChads. Final Table just isn't my favorite atmosphere-wise, not to mention chip down.

Encore has been starting earlier and earlier, even on weekdays, and can get really juicy and deep. Fridays and Saturdays often have multiple stacks over $1,000 by 8:00 or 9:00. Game is crazy loose, high variance, but you can make a lot if you play decent.

The Game (formerly Ace of Spades) on Barbur is trying to claw back into the mix. They have 1/2 mixed games Tuesday and Thursday that seem to fill every week, and play pretty deep, with at least a couple hold em tables going as well, with more on weekends. During the week it's a lot less action then the other places, but still soft. Way more action on weekends. Like Final Table (or like Final Table used to), they make you chip down to $400, but unlike Final Table they only make you do it every 3 hours rather than 1.

Lucky Devil and Boom both have really juicy 1/2 games, pretty much every night. Devil starts at 9:00, you often have to be there at 8:45 to get a seat. Boom starts at 10:00 or after, runs to 2:30.

Just parking. Don't park in the "name of business parking only" spots in the little strip mall to the left of Encore. Park in the few Encore spots or on the street.

Have fun. Liked that place when I was in town.

If you ended up going you most likely experienced my semi-intoxicated ass run up a big stack then lose it all like an idiot.

Just played poker in Portland for the first time last weekend at Encore. It was certainly a unique experience and it felt like I was playing straight out of the movie Rounders in a sketchy underground basement. I kind of liked it though since it was different from a regular cash game. I was playing 2-5 NLH and they said that game hardly runs there. I will be going back in a few weeks, where is the best place to play 2-5 in downtown portland?

Alas I didn't end up making it out. Glad I didn't spend the money for that GroupOn now.
