Chinook Winds will be pretty hot the 3rd week (23-27) of Sept with the Fall Poker Classic. They will have some games. Each bigger tournament series they have had has increased their cash games at that time as well. Still not as sexy as the cash scene during the Wildhorse Roundups.

Also Spirit Mountain has been pretty active with at least 1 2-5 and multiple 1-2 each weekend afternoon.

I just started playing 2/5 at a local spot. The games were good, but shortish. Not sure what happened, but over the past week or so 2/5 went from running daily to hardly at all. Any thoughts on why? Where is the 2/5+ these days?

they have two to four tables of $1/2 NL daily running at the Final Table off of se 122nd and Division in Portland. Also have one table of $2/5 NL running usually daily. On tuesdays and sundays from around 3pm to 230am they have pot limit Big O too. Thats $1/2 with optional button and UTG straddles of $5. these are called shootouts and are ran like 1 hour tourneys where you must cash up/down to the min/max at the end of every hour. They can only charge you once a day $10 door fee and there is NO RAKE! games are usually quite soft, especially the hold em ones

The 1/2 NL is a shootout as well, or just the Big O?

All of the 1/2 and $2/5 NL and Big O games are played shootout style. i think the $1/2 is $60 to $200 buy ins with 1 optional straddle, $2/5 is $100-$500 buy ins.

looked at their website and it doesnt look like the new ownership is really trying(atleast not so far) with that weak tourney schedule and the fact theyre not serving alcohol (says 18 and over) isnt gonna help them much either. seems like its the same as aces the last few months before they closed which was a absolute shame cuz i loved the location and playing there. could easily be the best club in town if ran right! is mikes game running at aces full or elsewhere?

Guarantees are small at this point. They're running some special events to try to build customer base. I won my first tournament there, the structures are better than Encore. I like the location, too, it's close to my house. The shootouts are running in Aces. Check out their FB page, the new TD posts fairly regularly.

aces always had the best tournament structures in portland by far(the last 20k in march was sick with basically a 50k stack for the buyin and addon), again its a shame theyre still not open and serving alcohol which would draw plenty of recreational players in if the new ownership did! encore tourney structures are crappy but also have very soft fields(same goes for final table), my biggest gripe with that place was the lack of parking, just terrible! who is the new td at the new place? are alot of the dealers the same from aces? congrats on the tourney win

Yeah, I liked their big events, final tabled a $20K there last year, made final on two $10Ks last summer, and just missed winning a seat for DSPT Chinook last fall in the summer series playoff.

Staff is mostly new, I think. Jon Hryciw, longtime dealer at Portland Players Club is running day-to-day. He's trying some new stuff. They're offering a $99 month-long pass to cover usual $10/day door fees. Everybody's innovating. PPC is continuing to run Sunday specials w Crazy Pineapple and Win the Button this month.

Did you crack the chipleader's KK with your 88 all in preflop at the final table when you were second or third in chips? Short kid to your immediate right, table was still 8 or 9 handed? Because that was me and that was my first wired pair of the tournament, you jerk.

A year and more than 250 live tournaments ago. Don't remember being on the top end of the stacks at final, I ended up out in 4th.

Good luck! I'm excited for ya. Portland is my favorite poker city (low buy in tournys with affordable fees/rake are rare). I don't live in Portland right now and I know Aces has lost some traffic and stuff, but I loved that place when I was up there.

Yeah add Rialto in there if you like playing in a fish bowl. It's super soft most of the time.

Good luck. There isn't really anything bigger than 2/5 north of the bay area. 2/5 is a rarity as well.

Sure, except for the daily 2pm 2/5 tables at Final Table in Portland, and the Mon/Wed 20/40 LHE game they've been running and some other stuff around town. A rarity other than that.

Don't know about Bend.

I'm not in the area but have visited and plan to again soon. I had thought there were no real cash games in Portland, except for the few oddball ones in strip clubs. Don't all the little poker clubs only have tournaments?

I am more interested in limit poker anyway, so my last time there I played in La Center instead. I would like to know more about this 20/40 game just mentioned though.

There aren't any "real" cash games but there are a lot of things that are practically indistinguishable. Final Table (pokerportland.com) runs 1-hour tournaments with set blinds and unlimited rebuys.

Their 20/40 LHE game is running Monday and Wednesday at noon, from what I understand. Haven't played it myself.

So every hour you have to cash out and then everyone rebuys for a fixed buy-in?
