Yeah!!! Probably the first time I've been on the right side of a political decision in 12 years.

Much rejoicing. Very, very lucky that it was LaCenter and not Spirit Mountain behind this.

I'll be coming to Portland in late July for a wedding and am interested in the poker options.

I'll give this forum a more thorough reading when I get the time, but was hoping someone would give me a quick rundown of the poker scene there.

Am I correct that cash games are not spread?

How much is the rake for tournaments? One posting suggested that a cover charge pays the rake for as many tournies as you care to play. Correct?

Any pit games (blackjack, craps, Let-It-Ride, slots, etc) at these clubs?

I'll be staying at the Courtyard by Marriott at 550 SW Broadway Ave. Nearest poker clubs and approximate cab fare from there?

Any requirements to join the clubs or can I walk in and begin playing?

Thanks in advance for whatever info you might think is helpful.

I'm afraid my question a few weeks ago got lost in the shuffle; I'd still appreciate any current info about bigger limit games in La Center.

You can play poker in some bars in portland, or you can play in the poker rooms around town. Encore is close to downtown where you're at, and I think there is a bar very close to where you're at that has some form of poker. Google it, most of the places have nice up to date websites with all of the information you're looking for.

I think you've either got the address or the hotel wrong. Either way, if you want to play cash/shootout you're in a good spot; Rialto is a few blocks away. They only spread .50/1.00, but it's juicy and always busy. $5 door fee is only requirement. Haven't confirmed personally, but have heard from players they've been starting early afternoon every day. They usually have 2 tables by 7:30, often ending up with 3 soon after.

So are there no even semi-regulars who can give me the lowdown on current games in LaCenter? Please don't make me call the casinos, those places always lie and say they have games even when they don't...

Chillrob,

I haven't been to La Center since May, but expect a table of 10/20 and/or 15/30 on all days, with 20/40 on Tuesdays, Fridays and possibly Saturdays. 30/60 theoretically runs on Mondays but has been dying for some time now. Hope that helps.

Thanks much for the info. Are all these at the Last Frontier?

It seems odd that the same room would run both 10/20 and 15/30 at the same time as the limits are pretty close. I'm fine with anything 10/20 and above though.

Hey portland/vancouver players, just a heads up there is a new cash game starting today (7/31) in north PDX, right off of the MAX yellow line. It's a .25/.50 NL Holdem, it's gonna be a regularly occuring cash game from sun-thurs. Tonight is the inaugural game, the location is Dancin Bare, 8440 N interstate. Look foward to seeing some of you there!

FYI these are all limit games, La center doesn't have NL.

Thanks, but I knew that; I'm looking for limit games. If anyone happens to be reading this who will be playing next week, I'll be in town and at least checking out the games a few days.

Go to any of the clubs and play in a tournament. Ask the other players where to play cash. You will find a number of places.
Lucky Devil still starting up at 10? Every day?

Quoting this post from a few years ago, so might as well add that Sellwood doesn't run anymore.

Looking to expand my cash game selection, particularly early evening weekdays. West side is preferable, but I know that's doubtful. Post here, or PM. Thanks.

Anybody? Anybody? Given the prevalence of poker in Portland in surprised this thread doesn't get more action, although given the quality of play you usually see it makes sense that not many of the players frequent 2+2....

I think it's somewhat an issue of true cash games in Portland not being exactly legal. Most of the clubs run tournaments with timed Shootout tournaments taking he place of cash.

Aces Players Club just announced a new Shootout schedule including planned $1/$2 NLHE, PLO, and $3/$6 and $4/$8 Limit Omaha 8/B starting next week.

You think the legality of leads to not many people posting in this thread, or no one offering me up any cash games? Pretty sure the questionable legality of cash games hasnt suppressed them much. Actually, a home cash game is more legal than the tournament clubs

Commentary like this is why I don't really participate in this thread. I and my employees and our dealers all put a lot of effort in every day to provide a safe, fun, and legal place for people to play cards in Portland, and I don't really want to get into arguments with people who want to call me a criminal. I'm sure those running the other clubs in town feel the same (or, more likely, don't know about 2+2).

While there are some gray areas that need to be cleaned up, neither the police, the DA, the AG, nor the OR Legislature considers what we are doing illegal. But that won't convince people who want to think otherwise.

As for the issue of learning about the cash games, many of which do exist in people's homes in the area, it's best done through old-fashioned personal networking. Spend some time in the local clubs and get to know a few people and you'll find out about the games quickly enough.
