I was correct too. They have 10 tables, much larger than Boston. They have a high rake too. They also have one of the worst rules in the history of poker.

The Port Perry Great Blue Heron new poker room has a list of new rules posted on their website. Some are good. Others not so much. The absolute worst rule I have ever seen in any poker room has been introduced.
I cannot attend if this rule stays in force.

Rule: When Table changing, you become a New Player – meaning you must meet buy in requirements.

So basically if you buy in for 2/5 for 500 which is the max and after 3-8 hours you have 2800, and you want to change tables to another 2/5 game, you must start over again as a new player with a maximum of 500. So can pocket the $2300 profit without having to wait an hour like everywhere else.

The above rule rewards hitting and running and punishes regulars who want to play deep, and also who want the right to change tables if their game is no longer good, and take their entire stack with them like the other 99% of poker rooms in North America.

Brantford a sister property, also introduced this rule, when they first introduced NL hold'em. Regulars including myself complained so much about this that the Poker room manager abrogated this terrible rule, and returned to the typical obligation of bringing your entire stack when you change tables.

Have you brought it up to management to change and cited the other location changing after feedback from its player pool? These sort of things can be changed if enough people suggest it. It may be that other players saw it as a disadvantage for a +200bb stack to seat change to their table and lobbied to rule against it.

Has anyone ever been to this place called "Toronto Aces Poker Ckub".? it advertises itself as a legit poker room. But the website says there is no rake. How can this even be? They have free food and drinks too. Is there some huge signup fee like 1000 dollars?

There's no sign up fee. They charge per flop, and don't call it rake. But it sure feels like rake. Almost every hand gets to showdown, so it is by no means a high end game. Most dealers there are pretty good, and they provide free food, snacks and non alcoholic drinks. Try the place out sometime, but most players there are sticky, so relax with the bluffs and over bet your value hands. They've been robbed twice in the past 12 months tho-once at gun point. So maybe leave your stash and cash in the car. I would recommend this place if you are close to them, but my no means is it worth a long drive.

It's nice being robbed at games. Especially if they pistol whip you into oblivion.

You know I was playing at the CNE last August and a lady handed out a business card and said there was no rake. But I had that scammy feeling. Of course there has to be a catch.

What is the legality of being caught there as a player? Problem is my day job would be an issue if I got caught at some illegal casino.

I spoke to a friend of mine, a former dealer, and he used to deal at that club. He told me about "service fees" per flop. You don't pay a rake but you pay the dealer to deal the hand..huh?

All of the above is illegal. Cigar shop use to have a game with 0 rake and 0 fees. But they sold cigars to players. They got busted and crown said as they profited from cigars due to poker game, they broke the law.

Cops have been there more than once. They check for alcohol sales and that's about it. Never heard of or seen anybody getting charged for playing. If anybody were to get charged it would operator(s).
The shadiest thing abt the place is anybody can just walk in. There are other Toronto options with restricted entry/guests lists that are much better

Family pressure to consider there...
Any recommendations regarding live action within reasonable range (prefer to stay out of Toronto for many reasons)?
Thanks.

Casino Niagara is the no-brainer best option to play poker with only $7/half hour session fee for 1/3.

This. I seriously wish I drove an EV right now. Even with parking and gas, session is worth it vs $15 rake + bad beat a hand (unless you play really short sessions)

I see on the Brantford poker room site that the Limit poker rake is:

4-8 & 10-20 10% to a maximum of $10

20-40 & 30-60 10% to a maximum of $12

Does anyone know if the Great Blue Heron poker room has the same rake structure for Limit poker.
