Haven't seen a Limit Hold'em game yet but there IS a Limit Hold'em Tourney listed on the Playground Poker Classic series running from April 29th to May 16th.

http://www.playgroundpoker.ca/eng/pages/classic

I plan to play in the $150 opening event (Two Day 1s with 150 player max in each) and probably in the $100 6-max PLO tourney on May 3rd myself.

The $1k tourney this past weekend had 186 players so there could very well be a decent turnout for the $3k closing event too - but a that's a bit too rich for my blood.

Can someone please tell me what accomodations there are close to Playground Poker that also aren't too expensive? I'm just looking for a place to sleep at night without spending too much money, nothing elaborate needed. Anyone know good cheap hotels/motels that are close?

Ripwalk assuming you're driving, you'll probably want to stay in Montreal proper and commute out. Obv there are a ton of choices - downtown hotels for a nicer place and access to other things to do when you're not playing (and easy access to the Casino if you'd like to go there to play as well), but the other idea would be airport hotels that aren't far and you may find some cheap options.

The BBJ was up around $100K and it was won tonight at the table right behind me.

It was AA vs JJ, flop J A K, turn K, river J - Aces full of kings lost to quad jacks.

Everyone checked in at a cash table when it happened gets just under $250 - and of course the people at that table and the winner and loser of the hand get a lot more.

my friend played against the winner of the bad beat in the 750$ tourney, SB vs BB, bbj winner limps with A7ss with 11BBs, friend ships with 83o, bbj winner calls and my friend spikes an 8. Dude is pissed goes to play at a 1/2, wins 50k, then goes and thanks my friend for shipping with 83o.

Tomorrow is a $300 bounty tourney - 100 for each bounty. Sounds pretty nuts to me, probably lots of fun.

On the weekend is the big $3K tourney - which I won't be playing but should be pretty cool. Gavin Smith, Eric Cajelais and a couple other "name" pros are supposed to be playing.

Gavin rolled in an hour and a half into the $100 Deepstack Turbo last night, stacked someone in his first hand, and went on to win the thing. LOL

He's due back for the $500 Heads-up tourney tomorrow and the $3k event.

Not from what I understood, no. He's probably spending tonight enjoying the fine establishments of Montreal Night Life like Chez Paree.

I was watching a bit of the final table via canadapoker.com and at one point it seemed as if emotions were flaring over something. Any idea what was up?

Ah, that makes sense. Glad it was nothing serious - from what I saw the whole series went very well.

What's the word on nice accommodations fairly close to the room? I have some friends heading your way for a bachelor party and I'm invited so I'm thinking of staying an extra week to come donate some money at your PLO tables and try and get rejected by 10+ waitresses. A few questions if anyone feels like answering please:

1. the accommodation thing? Something comparable to a W or The Borgata with decent room service etc
2. Should I rent a car or take taxis to & from card room?
3. Does Omaha get off daily? If so what stakes?
4. never been to the city, I hear nothing but great things about the restaurants, nightlife & women. Are they all true?

Since no one else is answering I'll try my best here but am not from Montreal, but I visit often since I'm 90 min away.

1) Only stayed once, we stayed at the Hilton downtown, very nice hotel with pool, garden looking area, very nice overall

2) I'm pretty sure if you want to play only at the Playground forget taxi or car. They have a shuttle service and will pick you up downtown anytime you want.

3) Can't answer this, only played here a few times. When I have it was Friday nights and they had high stakes PLO going, 10/25 and higher

4) Simple answer, YES to all.

Shuttle service is available but only for groups of 6 or more.

From a downtown, higher-end hotel it's only about a 20 minute drive assuming you're not going in rush hour (in which case it's an hour). Taxis can be quite expensive - I would rent a car. From downtown it's a simple drive - get on the 720 West (aka Ville-Marie Expressway), continue on the 20 to the exit for the Mercier Bridge. Continue over the bridge and along the 138 highway for a couple of miles. Playground will be on the right at (I think) the third traffic light.

As far as hotels go, there are all kinds of nice hotels downtown and conveniently enough if you do rent a car, they're generally located pretty close to the highway you'll need to take to get there. There is a W and several other large nice hotels, but also a whole range of smaller boutique hotels that are very nice.

As far as food and nightlife is concerned, Montreal is fantastic. I'm not a club guy at all, so I can't comment on that, but the resto scene here is amazing. It often doesn't get the press that other cities do, but there is no shortage of good and great food at every price available.
