Most rooms I've worked in (a fair amount) had an official rule of requiring time collection for players entering in the first 10 minutes. All had been beaten down over time and stopped enforcing it, or at least the dealer looks the other way to avoid having to stop the game to deal with it. Give them time, it will probably go away.

They don't drop time until 10 minutes into the down and any new player that sits before that has to pay time even though they aren't getting a full down. They don't give half-time ever in a time rake game no matter how short the game gets.

Myself and several other people have complained to the shift manager who has said they're going to speak to the poker room manager but so far the policy has not changed.

Not making new players pay time and taking half rake when they came get short are just common courtesy that every other room in the area extends. I can't understand why live won't extend the same courtesy to the players especially when they're just opening. It seems petty and greedy and short-sighted to do these things. The minimal effect they have on the poker rooms bottom line can't possibly be worth it.
While I agree that's a later drop than anywhere nearby you're still getting over in the long run with time collection since that's still a 20 min window to not pay time.

When I played at Potowatomi in Milwaukee I was shocked to see they would collect time even if you sat 2 mins before the next time collection.

I play 6/12 OE at Maryland Live often. It has a $5 time charge. They never give half rake when we're down to 4 players, and they never give a new player a break on skipping their first rake. So if the protocols are the same in Philly than in MD, I wouldn't count on anything changing.

What’s the rake for 2-5?

Are they that strict with the higher stakes games at MD Live too? That's what I was thinking of when talking about time rake. High stakes players can be relentlessly cheap and demanding.

They aren't doing safety deposit boxes at the cage either.

Doesn't seem like there's much interest in getting the bigger games.

I've noticed that the last two Thursdays the 5/5 uncapped PLO game has gone off here. I haven't seen it any other day though. Does anyone know if this is going to be a regular Thursday game here? And, if so, about what time does one have to get there in order to get a seat?

As a FYI, you'll start to see more and more casinos move away from boxes. Has nothing to do with not wanting or wanting bigger games

Thanks

Well, I certainly trust your experience and insight on this Mike.

But as a mid stakes rec player, I'll tell you that I am less likely to be a regular player if I need to carry larger amounts of cash around to do it, and specifically need to bring it back and forth to my house and store a bankroll there. Obviously, this only applies to a room close enough to be frequented regularly, which PL is probably never going to be for me, but if my local room goes this route as well (which it very well might), then I'll probably end up playing there less.

Dinesh,

You'll always be able to put "front money" in the cage if you like. I realize it's not optimal, but it's what's available.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick feedback Mike.

If that means what I think it means, basically a player funded "account" that is carried across many sessions/months/years and doesn't need to be funded on each visit, then as long as getting money in and out without too much delay and paperwork (or limited places to do it) is possible, that seems like it would be a very reasonable work around, at least for me and my specific use case.

Put in my first session in the room the other night. Some observations:

The staff is essentially Harrah's East - since Chester decided to close their poker room, Live! took advantage of the deep pool of available dealers. The player pool has a lot of overlap as well.

I played $1/3 from about 11 PM to 7:00 in the morning. Dropped 2/3 of my $300 buy-in when I called a turn shove from a player who had shown a propensity to overplay marginal hands with KJ on a QQJx board; of course this time he woke up with AJ.

I reloaded and wound up winning it all back plus a tidy $12 profit after tipping the cage, mostly when my AQ of spades flopped the nut flush and I got two streets of multi-way value before I got greedy and shoved the river (he did tank forever so I think I could have got $100 off him). I hope my $1.50 hourly is sustainable.

The things I didn't like about the room were all COVID-related. When they can spread nine-handed games and tournaments, I can see Live! being my destination to play. It's a little closer to me than Rivers and way closer to me than Parx and I envision softer games than either room.

I'm thinking about making a run to Philly Live next week. I'll be coming from Delaware County and I was wondering what parking was like. Is there any free parking on site ?

We're excited to have you check out the room. There is free parking in the garage and outdoor lot at the casino. Be sure to check sports schedules when you plan to arrive as this will affect traffic.

Hey there, Wolosz85, a couple questions for you:
  • Will you be 9- or 10-handed when COVID protocols are finally lifted?
  • When drink service is restored will you have free alcoholic beverages for poker players?
  • Is there a timetable for tournaments starting and how often will they run?
  • Any plans large tournament series' down the road?

Can someone organize a FAQ to put in the first post like many of the other established poker rooms? Answers like typical games, rake, directions, etc...

is there a plan to let people park there for free and then offer shuttle service to the stadiums on game days?

NYC,

Thank you for your questions. At this time, I do not have concrete answers to your questions regarding Post-COVID poker in the room.

Tournaments are on the horizon and we plan on running Daily Tournaments as well as Tournament Series' in the future.

When more information becomes available, I will be sure to keep everyone here updated.

MetsFan,

As of right now, for Phillies Home games, if you have a Gold Rewards Card or above, you can park in our parking garage for free! If you are not a member, or have our initial Classic Rewards Card, you do need to pay to park and earn 300 Tier Credits for reimbursement. This equates to 3 hours of poker play.

Right now, there is no shuttle service available to the stadiums. As Capacities pick up in the stadiums, things may change and I will keep everyone here updated!

Now I'm confused. Is parking free in the garage and outdoor lot or do you need a Gold Card or 3 hours of poker play ? Does it make a difference if there are games at the stadiums ?

I just got this postcard in the mail.

How attainable are these goals playing poker alone?
