Played last night.

Went with the wife to the flower show. Decided to book a room package and check out Live!

Stopped in midday with no intention of playing. Had a couple 1-3 games running, a couple 2-5 games and at least 1 PLO. thought that was pretty good for a Sat afternoon. I declined to be put on the list, which they said was good to keep me “next up” for an hour.

Returned to the room after dinner. Seated quickly at a 1-3 table. My first live table since late 2019. Felt weird. We’re fully vaccinated and didn’t wear masks after walking in with them and seeing the signs,

I’m mostly a 1-2 Borgata player. Bought in for $300 at the table, got mostly green chips. Weird to me, next time I’ll get chips from the cage.

I was the 7th player, and seated in the 4/5 spot. Lots of room. Players mostly on phones and/or watching TV. Slow and not much action. Seats 1&2 got up about the same time. So did 6&7. Replaced by what I gathered was a couple in the 1&2 and seat 6 appeared coupled with seat 3. Actually thought about asking directly, but didn’t.

Many card funerals for seat 9/10. Slow player even when involved,

Not much action, but got called 3 ways with a big hand in sb. No callers to my cbet and that was my profit for the short session.

Nice to sit. Probably could have stuck around, but went out front of the valet for a cigar instead. Just called it a night after that.

Funny, I think I would have played longer if I could have had a cigar and drink at a comfy chair indoors (bar or slots).

Looked like $5 max rake, but there weren’t any large pots and I might have missed promo rakes getting dropped. Very few Eyes getting called after the flop. Lots of checked down pots or folds to cbets and delayed cbets. One straddle on my penultimate hand.

Live! Casino Philadelphia's cardroom should be $5+0 with no high hands or a bad beat jackpot like Bellagio in Las Vegas. The classiest, most upscale poker rooms dont try to lure customers with undignified promotions.

This is confusing. They were running $500 high hands on the clock, but that was just a test?

Are they still raking $2 a hand for promo but no high hands or BBJ? Or did they stop promo raking until high hands can start?

Someone said rake was $8 no way that can be true.

I'd like to come play the next time there are no Philly sports - Friday night maybe? Will there be any promos?

Management should tell the dealers not to discuss politics or coach players up on poker strategy at the table. It's one thing for players to do that or even for dealers to respond if a player initiates it with them, but they should not be initiating that stuff.

More specifically: dealers spewing anti-vaxx, anti-science nonsense, indirectly comparing covid precautions to the Holocaust, or complaining about transgender people being considered acceptable by society is an issue.

I want to preface this by saying it is a rumor I heard. I have no direct knowledge of the situation.

Talk at the table at Borgata is that the bad beat hit at Live! and they overpaid the winners so they're now doing a promo drop but there's no promos to make up for it. Can anyone confirm or (hopefully) deny?

This is hogwash. Currently waiting on Gaming to approve promos

Everyone should play at Rivers Philly. You are being charged an extra $1 @ $10 and an extra $1 @ $30, 24 hours a day for absolutely nothing here.

Very good point. Why pay for a promotion that doesn't exist (yet).

Isn't it also hogwash to collect a promo rake and not offer high hands or a bad beat? Why not stop collecting until you have something to offer??

I must admit. It does seem shady to take a promo drop without being able to offer any promos yet.

Even at other casinos it seems somewhat shady to take a drop anytime promos aren't running. For example, a casino that uses the promo money for high hand promos only run at nights. They shouldn't be taking the $1 during the day.

But collecting all this money without even having any promos seems like a rip off. Sure, you might have a bunch built up once you start running the promos. It would seem to me if you want that put up $50K or whatever to start the promo off use casino money to get it started.

Philly Live is not going to have it easy like Maryland Live when they opened. There is already a lot of competition in this area. If Live is going to do stuff like this they aren't going to ever be much of a factor.

Personally I haven't played here yet, but was planning on it soon. Just to check it out. Parx is 20 mins away, Live is 45 mins away. It could easily be my secondary option to play. The stupid city Covid restrictions kept me away so far. Now just as I hear the mask and plexi are gone, I'm finding out about the phantom promo drop. I'm not a rake nit by any means either.

Promo drops are ridiculous in the first place but if they are allowed, I don’t know why people think it’s out of line to it have promos and still take a drop…they have to give the money back to the players eventually…

The fact that gaming allows poker to fund marketing promos with players money in the first place is ridiculous to me…

Also Mike it was interesting that you stated that Gaming needed to improve promos. So they improve the regs to collect it from the rake but didn’t think to approve ways to distribute the rake…also is there a way the promo fund is internally audited? Pretty sure when the MGMNH dealer stole from the fund it never got replaced.

The promo drop is a big source of revenue for the casino, of course they want to keep raking it even when promos aren't active... don't forget that they get to keep 10% of all promo funds as an admin fee!

Live! Poker Room does not keep any jackpot/promo funds for any Admin fee. 100% of the jackpot drop collected is/will be returned to the players in the form of various promotions after final approval from the state gaming board.

Seems dumb to play the lottery when the jackpot is recently hit and is the lowest. It's beyond stupid to play the lottery if the jackpot is zero.

Idc about promo or whatever. These 1/3 games are insanely soft. I’ve won 500+ every trip here so far.

Ok, but as a player, if you're taking a promo drop without offering any promos yet, please explain to me why I shouldn't go to another casino where I will pay the same rake and have a chance at a bad beat/high hand/hot seat/whatever... Especially if a Phillies game is starting in the next couple of hours and I'm forced to spend money on slots at your place as well, when instead I can park for free at a competitor.

I can just go somewhere else and maybe hit a promo and come see you when you're ready to give back that money you're currently stealing... Errrr dropping with the supposed promise you aren't stealing it.

You're free to play where you like! I wouldn't want to make that decision for you. If you'd rather play elsewhere until our promos are approved, I certainly understand. Once they start, come check out our room...I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I don't think there is any changing your mind if you truly believe we are stealing. Live! Poker has a strong reputation and we wouldn't tarnish it by stealing from the players who keep us in business. I hope when you stop in, you'll introduce yourself!

I see the rep posted that plexiglass has started coming down, are masks still required? Bravo currently states that masks are required and plexiglass is still up.

The rake is $5+$2. I think some people add a $1 tip into their rake calculations! Also, all plexi is down and masks are not required. We are now 8 handed!

I've been to Live a half-dozen times in the past few weeks. While it was meat-locker cold last night, that was the only drawback (that and the ridiculous $25 parking fee during Phillies games).

The player pool is starting to grow on me, other than the talking about the hands during the hands stuff I previously mentioned. But I'd like to focus here on the folks who work at Live.

Floor is generally pleasant and certainly more so than those at Borgata and Parx. These folks seem like generally happier people, which is one of the reasons I also play at Rivers.

Dealers are incredibly good at Live. Most of them run a fast game and, in PLO, are prepared to calculate the pot, if asked. I play a lot of PLO, and they're probably the best I've seen in this regard.

To be honest, I too am annoyed by drop collection with no actual promo at this time. But I refuse to think this is some sort of scam, etc.

I can't say the same for parking, however. Reps: Why do we have to wait to play 100 hours to boost our card level? I hate baseball with every fiber of my being. I also hate slots and general gambling, so the $25 in slot play is irrelevant. ... Can nothing be done to help poker players in this regard?

Just play the $25 on video poker. You get $24+ back in EV. The high limit slot area has $1 machines.
