I think if the manager's smart, and I believe he is, that $2 your concerned about will be shared throughout the room in some sort of jackpot promotion. Personally, I don't like big jackpots because too much money is taken out of the poker community, but the players do like them and chase them. That's the poker world we live in today. There are a lot of rooms in Florida taking 5 + 2, right or wrong, they have business. Jackpots drive in the bad players and make the games good for the better players

And I am sure there have not been any rake wars in Pensacola before and the greyhound track has the monopoly
This rake amount is standard just about everywhere.I dont think I've ever played in any home game or casino(on the east coast at least) where the rake was less than this.

Also home games can have all kinds of shady issues on top of not having a constant influx of new players/money ready to sit down.

I mean if you drive to Biloxi your gonna pay gas and room on top of the rake.

It will definatly not Kill the game here in P'cola. When the buy in limits and stakes are raised in July it will become even bigger.

Tho it will probably kill most of the private games in the area when this happens.

The stakes will not be raised, The house will make a lot more money keeping it a 100 max buy in, They said last July they were gona pass the law, and I believe they did, but the casinos have to agree on it and they wont.

Think about it,They raise the buy in amount to 500, guy buys in for 500, and loses it all in one hand, max rake from him is, 5$
Now he buys in for 100, 5 times, and gets it all in 5 times, they will rake 25$, def smarter to keep the buy inns low.

It is the poker rooms right to charge whatever they desire. The fact is the pensacola greyhound track is located in the poorest area of Florida. That $2 I am concerned about adds up to over $400 more coming off the table during a 10 hour session. Simple math says that the room will not be able to operate for years into the future, with the amount of players they currently enjoy, unless something changes.

If the buy ins do in fact increase it would definitely help, but as noted by liveactionpro it will also bring about circumstances that will be less than desirable for the poker room.

And I would be willing to bet that the Jackpot money the poker room spreads around comes from...wait for it...the jackpot money they rake. I am sure they have no plans currently to just spread around money from the regular rake.

Does anyone who plays poker at the pensacola dog track even know that a forum exists or are they all just as bad as I have realized. If you play there and see this just let me know that you actually exist. Say I read 2p2 and I play at the pensacola dog track.

I read 2p2 and I'm headed out there tonight.

Well I got railed in the $65 tournament with AA losing to QQ so I moseyed over to the 2-4 game to get a taste and it was definitely a gold mine except I was really card dead so I couldn't cash in. There's a lot of money to be made out there.

Why did you play the limit instead of the no limit?

I'll be at Pensacola tomorrow night. Not sure if the BBJ was hit since last weekend. If not it must be close to $85K by now. Played at Ebro these last 2 days (Super Bonus and Bonus days back-to-back.

alpha, it didnt get hit yet. Was over 95K when I sat tonight. Good luck out there tomorrow. See if you can find a dude calling himself Poker Mike. He buys in 40 at a time and plays any two. Tall black dude, about 40-45. Sat on my right and gave me over 100 in about 20 minutes tonight. I think he plays O8 or the 2-5 NL game but he sat in the 1-2 for awhile tonight and I was happy about it.

Do you like playing at Pensacola or at Ebro better? How do the services and quality of players compare?

Pensacola BBJ still growing. Up to $128K as of yesterday.

Service is MUCH better at Pensacola - no question. Players are equally bad, but I think that Ebro draws even more fish on their Bonus Days.

UPDATE: Played a couple hours last night. Room was dead for a Friday night. Only six 1/2 NL tables going along with a couple 2/4 limit and a 2/5 NL. The BBJ is still unhit and up to $137,316. I suspect Saturday will be busier with the Preakness Stakes wagering.

UPDATE: Played last night. Room was full for a Thursday night because they have a $65 tourney that drew 110 runners. The BBJ is still unhit and up to $154,995. I suspect this weekend will be busy with the Memorial Day holiday - lots of military guys at the tables.

Two military guys played the following hand at the 1/2 NL table I was at:

UGT+2 raises to $20
BTN calls
Heads-up
Flop J 9 8

UGT+2 pushed all in for $325. BTN has him covered and calls.

Turn: 6
River: 4

Spoiler:

UTG+2 shows 9 7
BTN shown T T

BTN rakes in a nice pot.

For some reason Pensacola card room numbers are not posted on the Florida Gaming watch web site LINK . Is this room busy? How big is it, number of tables?

I have to say they do have one of the worst web sites out there, looks like a middle schooler made it as a project for intro to web design.

I like to get away and Pensacola is a good laid back town.

Gambit,

William Vinyard, who runs the room, is one of the best card room managers in the business. You will not be disappointed.

Pensacola has 25 tables (though I've never seen the 25th table used). Only about a dozen have shuffle masters - the rest are hand shuffled. The room is busier than Ebro, which is to say maybe 10 tables during week days, 15 on week nights, and 20+ on weekend nights. Thurs and Fri nights you'll find five 1/2 NL and one 2/5 NL plus a number of 2/4 Limit tables. I haven't seen any Stud spread yet. The biggest game I've seen is a 2/5/10 NL (manditory straddle).

Because they drop $2/hand for the jackpot they run lots of "full house" promotions at the start of the day when they open and during the last 90 minutes of play before they close - usually in the form of entries into $120 and $65 tournaments.

And I agree - they have the worst website out there.

I picked up their June calendar yesterday. You can see all of the tourneys and the promotions for free tourney entries they run throughout the week.

Anyone know the rake on the $340 buy in tourny at the end of the month? Anyone know the structure?

I see no one has posted here since the Florida law changed.

Whats going on at this card room?

I just moved to Daphne Alabama and notcied this room is a few minutes closer to my house than the Beau Rivage. Is it worth it to check out? I only play 2/5 NL or 5/10 NL, and Biloxi has spread only 2/5 lately. Can I find a 2/5 game running in Pensacola? I sure wou;d love a change of scenery from the Beau. Any info on this room would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I found this and was wondering the same thing.

Looks like they'll spread pretty much whatever you want.

I'm going down on a working vacation later in the week. If I can break away I'm planning to check it out.

I live in Daphne, too. Haven't been to Pensacola since the law changed, but planning to check it out this weekend. Have you checked it out yet?

Went there for the first time last night. Game was decent but not great. They had a 2/5 with $200-$1k buy in that started at abour 4pm and wnet til about 8pm. They eventually turned it into a 1-2NL with 100-400 buy in once we got 4 handed. It filled up immendiately and I left as I didn't feel ike playing 1-2 live. Game seemed pretty good but i'm out of touch with 1-2 live games and how they play. Overall I'd definbitely go back, probably on a weekend, when I know the 2-5 will last or maybe they would even have a 2-5-10 NL game.

Yeah don't bother going there. The room is awful. No money to be made there. It's a dangerous part of town and there are a lot of cheats floating around. I'd rather go to Biloxi, that game is so soft.
