Re: PARX Poker Thread

Sorry if it has already been posted (couldn't find in a search), but what's the max buy-in for 2/5? Looks like they have just as much 2/5 action as Taj (maybe not Borgata) and they're slightly closer to me, so I'd love to make them my default room. . . especially when there's live racing.

Have you read the posts in this thread, specifically those posts discussing potential issues and the steps that management took to address them?

Other than at the Borgata and the Venetian, what other poker room has represented the player's interests, by having their management ask, listen and implement player suggestions?

Can you honestly say that other PA/DE poker room openings were better than Parx?

Can you honestly say that the dealers, floor and environment at other PA/DE poker rooms are better than Parx?

I've visited Harrah's and DP. They are ok rooms. However, they do not have anywhere near the potential to be as successful and player adopted as Parx. Their initial opening "quality of service" was, quite frankly... HORRIBLE. Has it improved since? Maybe. I don't know or care.

I don't honestly believe that the posters here are "hero-worshipping" Parx or the staff. I do not believe that Parx is overrated. If anything, Ari and co. deserve all the credit they earned - and then some.

Why?

Take a good look at the current state of poker and then you tell me.

Going forward, I would ask that you make a reasonable attempt at providing some rational basis for your concerns, rather than just painting with opinionated broad strokes, that are based on your disdain for other people's opinions.

Please don't feel compelled to reply.
I made my first trip to the room last night and while I only have an 8 hour sample size, I have to agree 100%.

I thought the room was great. I don't have a single complaint. The dealers were VERY good and the floors seemed cool/accommodating.

I have played at Harrah's (Chester) and Del Park a total of 5 times and can say w/o hesitation that I like PARX MUCH BETTER. This is not to say I have a problem with those rooms (and this isn't the thread to voice that opinion anyway) but for me, PARX is unequaled as far as new rooms go.

The only "complaint" I have is it seemed reg infested but still had OK action for a Thurs night. I'm looking forward to coming down on a Fri/Sat to check out the weekend action and hope for a table of mostly randoms.

Nice meeting you Spice and Ship. Good to see you again Alan. Keep nitting it up bro! Middle set against two guys that only have $150 stacks....open muck! haha JK.

Thanks for your time PARX....I look forward to coming back many times.

I am really keeping my fingers crossed that the expansion will actually bring in more recreational players. This place does seem to have an extremely high "Reg to Rec" ratio. Many of the reg's are actually reasonably semi-competent.

The games are still good, but have potential to be much better, if we can thin the herd a bit

My pleasure!

= = =

I can certainly vouch for Pippen as he earlier joined my 1-2 NLHE table. First hand he sat down with...flopped set of K's and took two players to the cleaners. One guy was obviously pissed.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

I went to parx for the first time this week. I thought it was quite nice, maybe not quite borgata, but much nicer than sands.

Whoever hired the waitresses and chose their outfits deserves a raise though. Very very nice to look at.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

Few suggestions for Ari (one not too important, two quite important):

The first issue is a small one. When games open up, dealers should quickly deal out the cards to determine button position. There is no reason for the button to always start in Seat 10. This could lead to some angle-shooting, although I admit that is very unlikely. Still, it only takes a few seconds to draw for the button and it just makes sense...why not?

The second issue is that the floor needs to be more proficient with running the must move games, if they will be running them at Parx. When a seat opens up at the main game and a player is told they have a seat, they should NOT be dealt another hand at the must move--unless they are just paying their blinds, in which case they can play their button. But that's it! We had an issue about this yesterday, when one guy wasn't moving over and continued to play as he was stacking his chips for 10 minutes or whatever. This is unacceptable. I understand there was an issue of being courteous to another player at the must move and keeping that game alive, but still--this should not be allowed. That's how a must move has to work. If the floor was really worried about the fact that the other player had just paid time and the game would break, perhaps the player could have been given credit for a free half later on?

(Also the floor's comment to the player was a real no-no: "You better get over there, they really want to take your money!" I'm not sure if this is what caused the player to sit at the main game and then immediately get up and leave, but still...please keep jokes like this to a minimum.)

Third thing: I really think roll-calls should be done before new games are opened. The exception would be when there is a huuuuge list like for a new 1/2 game. Even still, it would be good to roll-call the games (so you know the names you call are actually there). You just have them say on the PA: "This is only a roll-call..." and then they start calling names. To figure out who is there and really wants to play, by calling out names and looking around the room. Many times they open up a table before they are sure there is really interest for the game. For instance, last night there were 10 people or so on the 15/30 list, so they open up a must-move. I got up from my other full game to help get the 15/30 started. We sat there waiting for a long while, as only 3 people actually came to the table. Roll-call is a simple and effective solution, with no downside so far as I can see.

Other minor question: At about 6am or so we were still playing and asked for the FIRST time to have a free half, playing 4 handed, and we were quickly refused. Is it really true that free time can NEVER be given?

Hope I don't come off too complainy...just some suggestions for further improvement!

I plan on visiting the room tonight after 9 pm and before midnight.
Can I expect to find an $8-$16 limit game going?

Ari,

I know the room is only little the a month old but when the expansion comes are there going to be any poker related promotions going on? Maybe something like 2x comp dollars on certain days/hours or say aces cracked or something as easy as throwing some free hats or 50$/100$ gifts certificates out to lucky seats like the borgata does every once in awhile.

I also like what delaware park is doing with giving away seats to there daily tournaments.

Well I hope to see some 2+2s up there tonight around 1am

Re: PARX Poker Thread

Played for ~3 hours today after being card dead online this morning. Being card dead continued, lost like $80 playing 1-2nl. After the session went over to the casino to sign up for a players card and use the $25 slot players. Found a nice slot machine, $0.25 (5 credit max) proceed to play 20 spins loosing every single spin.

My thoughts on the room:

Pros:
- Swiping in at the table makes a lot more sense then asking a floormen to swipe you in
- Lots of TVs
- Floor was actively trying to fill seats
- Dealers seemed compentant, recognized a few from various AC casinos
- Drink girls
- I like that they have dedicated people to put your name on the waitinglist, similar to the borg
- Biggest pro was probably location for me. 30 mins from my house vs and 1.5 hour drive to AC

Cons:
- $2 chips are dumb
- Not to mention the color is annoying and could easily get mixed in a stack of reds
- The sign that thats "Poker room -->" should point to the escalator or say upstairs, I ended up passing the escalator and had to make a U-turn in front of all the degen horse bettors
- My biggest surprise was when everyone says it's in another building, it was literally in another building you had to walk outside to get too. Bally's and Ceasers are in seperate buildings but it doesn't feel like it. This seemed odd to me, doubt many players will stumble off the casino floor into the poker room to casually play.

Overall had a good experince. looking forward to playing some more there with the short drives when the additional tables open.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

I've google mapped it, but I was wondering with traffic and where the casino is located:

Is commuting here and back in a day from Lancaster reasonable?

If not, what about Camden? My buddy offered his place up in Camden to crash overnight to grind Parx over the break, but I can't claim I'm too thrilled about going back to Camden at night and would rather drive back to where I'm staying for most of the break in Lancaster. Is there any hotel nearby that's reasonable enough to not crack into my overhead?

Finally, I'm mainly interested in playing 15/30 or higher... with the expansion of the room is the feeling that there will be more tables running/getting started of this game?

Thanks!

Sorry if this isn't the right place for these questions, but I think it is? Rapini will tell me :-P.

There are plenty of hotels in the area. check out hotwire or hotels.com. I'd drive to Alaska before I'd stay in camden!

Re: PARX Poker Thread

If they really want to encourage players to travel to the room for some grind sessions they need to work out some kind of poker rate with a local hotel.
If they want bigger games to get going this is a must!
