First time poster, long time reader here...
Anyway visited Parx today and thought the room was pretty decent. A couple points:
- I do agree with some posters about the lighting, but it's nothing to cry about.
- I sat at the table in the back middle closest to the bar. Didn't notice the smell of smoke at all except for once, and there was probably at least 1-2 guys at the bar at any given time. The one time I did smell the smoke, there were 4-5 guys back there all puffing it up. I could see how on a busy night, the back middle tables would be smelling smoke all night. Mind you, my father smoked growing up, and I smoked a little when I was younger. So I am not overly sensitive about cigarette smoke.
I could see this issue being solved by having a smoker's lounge in one of those rooms you see once you get off the escalator. Although, I didn't get a good look at what those areas are currently being used for.
- Filling the seats seemed a bit inefficient for whatever reason. There were times when the list was 20+ long for 2-5, yet we had 2-3 open seats at our table for extended periods (maybe 20 minutes tops). I'm guessing this could be due to those who call in but aren't there to pick up the seat.
- Had a solid handful of dealer slip ups in the 4-5 hours I was there. I don't think a single dealer went a session without exposing at least 1 card. The worst one being a 'K' and the guy said he would show both if his other card was a 'K' and low-and-behold it was. To make matters worse, there was a 'K' on the flop. In all my trips to AC, I don't think I saw so many dealer mishaps. Not complaining, just stating facts of what happened. Not that big of a deal though as I'm assuming the dealers will get better in time.
- Talked to a few dealers about the tables being small. One dealer thought definitively that they were smaller, but most seemed to think it was the larger than normal cup holder/cushion area making the square footage of card play smaller. Also, I do agree with some posters that the large base of the chairs are making things a tighter fit. The overall size of the table, however, seemed to be the same to me. But what do I know?
- Parking didn't seem to be an issue to me. If you're smart about it, there are better places to park than the designated "parx east lot."
Overall, a good experience for the 5 or so hours I was there. Came out with a nice double up at a pretty solid table with a couple fish dropping by periodically.
All issues aside, I'll definitely be going back and don't really see a reason to go to the Borgata anymore especially with more tables and tournaments right around the corner. I can see Parx becoming a bigger destination if they can get a few big name concerts and shows to come in.
Anyone know what the required accumulation is to get the elite card?
