Hmmm...Lets see how great the Borgata REALLY is..

1. You have to pay for parking.
2. You have to pay tolls when coming from Pennsylvania.
3. If you want to watch football, you get a neck cramp from the 40ft high TV's that you cant even see the score on.
4. They just fired nearly 100 poker dealers due to LACK of business. The ones that they kept and are full time are down to 4 days if they're lucky.
5. The dealers they did keep are awful. They roll the deck, don't know the rules, cover up their own mistakes, talk about their lack of tips on the table etc.
6. How many floor people does it take to make a decision? Every time I see a ruling needed they need to form a brain storm to come up with a half correct response.
7. They don't have BRAVO system. I don't know how any room that claims to be top of the line cutting edge doesn't have the best rating system out there.
8. They are starting to cater to lower limit players because they know in the end that's all they will have left. Now offering $1-5 stud, and $100 tournaments with a lovely 20% rake cut!
9. Their "Live game reports" are misleading. I went last week because it said there was 2 games I was interested in. When I arrived the supervisor told me that they never get that game and it was probably just on the game report because they "Like to seem busier than they are". Parx's live game report feeds right from BRAVO and is always truthful because of it.
10. Do I need to continue?

And yes it is no flop no drop as of about a week ago. The Taj was the Roman Empire long ago, Borgata came in and conquered it. Once Parx expands next month there is no doubt in my mind that it will be the new "ruler of the east".

guess they didn't build a perfect poker room for 2+2, which is clearly reflected in the empty tables and sparse waiting lists for games

Comparing the two is unfair for people who live in Pennsylvania due to the travelling time. I compared the Borgata to Harrah's Chester and in every single category the Borgata won except for 1 - distance. So I played at Harrah's. This one aspect makes it worth staying here.

If I could choose to instantly be teleported into 1 Poker room, it would be hands down the Borgata. Outside of Atlantic City Parx is obviously the best choice, and it could very well wind up being better one day. So far, so good.

No mention of rake amount/food/comps/nightlife? Be Fair. Let's face it, The Borgata is a great room. I'm sure Stan will adjust in some way to the competition they're having the deal with. Of course, the Borgata is way down, hurt by DP, Harrah's Chester and Charlestown, but probably injured worse by Parx. The new rooms in PA/DE and even WV are going to affect the Borgata's take by seven figures during the next twelve months and that will cause them to react to regain market share. This is all good for poker players in general. I remember when you didn't pay for parking in AC. I suspect that we'll see free parking shortly and much, much more.

This works on my ipod touch. It doesnt work on my desktop or laptop. It would be great if you could click each game and see the waiting lists with your name/initials. Currently as of 8:53am it says:

4 no limit hold'em $1-$2
2 no limit hold'em $2-$5

If I could click on either game and see the entire waiting list that would be amazing.

Privacy concerns tells me there is no way they will show the names on the wait list, nor should they.

It would be nice if they would show the number of names on the list, though, both for live games and for interest lists.

Really weird that the link does not work on my computer, but works on an iphone. Played at DP last night with a Parx guy and he had the link saved on to his phone and could get the report. But, that link does not work from any of the three laptops in front of me now. I haven't tried my blackberry yet. We also talked about how "cool" it would be to be able to see "waiting lists" at places like Parx where it can be hours during the busy time.

There are no privacy concerns. It would be awesome to sit at home and watch the list before leaving the house. I called in Friday night at 11:10pm. I was 106 on the list. I had a friend there watching the list and he texted me when to come. It would be great if I could see myself.

The change to a "no flop no drop" policy was a week or 2 ago.

When did anyone claim that Parx was the Borgata? Both poker rooms have strengths, both have weaknesses. Parx is clearly on a very positive track towards becoming a really good - great, even - poker room.

So far, so good. And the full tables and long wait lists are proof of this, IMHO.

Sure, The Borgata has a lengthy thread on this forum - it's had a poker room for years and years. Parx just opened their poker room up! What would you expect, in terms of thread length?

Let's see - as of right now, 2+2 is showing that the Parx thread has a total of 1,926 posts, the first of which was on 12/17/2009 - long before the room even opened. Post number 843 is the first one on 11/03/2010 - which is the day that the room officially opened to the public. So, there have been 1,083 posts to the Parx thread since it opened.

As of right now, 2+2 is showing that the Borgata thread has a total of 12,240 posts, the first of which was on 2/21/2009. Which of course was well after the Borgata had a poker room. By several years, in fact. The first post on 11/03/2010 was number 11,851. So, there have been a grand total of 389 posts on the Borgata thread since then. Looks like a roughly 2.5:1 advantage for Parx, on the thread count issue, since Parx actually opened up their poker room.

Not that I think that this means anything in real life, because I don't. But - since you made an issue of it, I figured I'ld check the numbers and see what they really are. I need more of a life.....

On my one trip there, I didn't notice it "reeking" of smoke. I didn't smell any smoke at all. Maybe it wasn't crowded enough.

Another idea and probably very big longshot would be to make user 110v outlets available under each table.

Had a long session yesterday and left when my mobile phone/music player died. Would have stayed much longer. Would have loved to plug in my power adapter to charge my phone. I know I could possibly have left it plugged in behind one of the counters, but I wouldn't be very comfortable with that.

I don't see how it isn't feasible to do since they already run AC to the auto shufflers, but i don't know if there would be another issue doing so.

Thanks for the Firefox tip - I was able to make it work.

The live game report lists the number of games but I don't see that it lists the number of players on the waiting list? Am I missing how to do that or is the size of the waitlist not available?

Thanks

That is still a privacy concern. I know most of the people who play in my game by initial and what they put up. People do not want to get stalked. Like "oh ****! that fish Bob is playing, I have to go down to Parx." It would be trivial to write a script that would watch the list and text me when certain names were on the list. This will never happen, and should not.

Number of people on List should suffice, names/initials is Not good.
I don't want my initials (even my poker initials, which do not match) public knowledge. My Girlfried would always know when I'm not "at work".

Thanks for this. Works perfectly on my MacBook.

Now I can see there's a 15/30 game running right now that I can't get to today. It's OK, I guess I could use the day off...somehow I didn't win last night running bad and playing bad. Damn, run bad play bad usually works so well for me.

Thanks!

I am loving the call in feature! Called last night as I was heading out for the wait times, then called back about halfway to add my name to the list. Timing worked out nicely...waited about 10 minutes before sitting down at one of the craziest games (happened to be 4-8) I have ever played in! I am holding on to my theory that 4-8 is just a higher-stakes version of 2-4. Once the holidays over and I have more wiggle room in bank account, I'll definitely be moving up in stakes!

While I think the Borg is an excellent room and still the best room on the east coast, it would be down on my list behind Bay101, Venetian or almost any of the SoCal rooms.

Teleportation wise, that is We may not need the teleport machine, however, after the expansion.

Time to start a long discussion about second hand RF from all you cell phone users at the table. I come home feeling like I just went through an x-ray machine...

Just a couple things I thought I'd nitpick about:

1. The tables really are small. I know we've mentioned this a million times, but now that I've been there many times, it's really getting on my nerves. If you don't get a seat at the ends of the table, you have absolutely no leg room at all. Someone at my table today mentioned the idea of making the tables 9 handed after the expansion. I think that's a good idea to consider.

2. I was joking about second hand RF above, but there should be a rule that if you are on the cell phone, you will not get dealt in. Bellagio does this successfully, so I'm sure Parx can do it. Too many people are talking away and not paying attention, which slows up the game. Not to mention it's annoying to hear half a conversion - at least put the phone on speaker if you are going to talk so we can hear both sides of the conversation ;-)

Try Cricket or Boost Mobile.

otherwise go to Google and type "cheap cell phone plans".
