Re: PARX Poker Thread

I know most of the posters on this thread are higher stakes or limit players, but I was wondering if anyone has played in the 1-2nl game and can comment on the average skill of the players. A comparison to 1-2nl players in AC would be good or a comparison to a particular online limit, say .10-.25nl

Re: PARX Poker Thread

the 1-2 players at Parx appear to be especially awful. They say 1-2 live is like 5c/10c online, might be worse at Parx haha.

Harrumph! That's like saying that NL is for bullies who want to push people around - no skill required, is there?

Personally, I see both NL and limit as being good ways to enjoy poker. Different in some ways, yet similar in some ways. I intend to, and am, enjoying both. Along with some Omaha 8 and maybe even stud.

Stud! Now there's a game that says right away what type of man plays it. Even the female ones.

I was in the parx parking lot at 3:45 am. The security SUV with flashing lights drove by me twice while I walking to my car. The parking lot is lit up like a football stadium. I feel pretty safe there. 15 times safer than when Ive been at the Taj at night.

Ari,
Will you spread other types of games? I was thinking of a half 1-2 NLHE half 1-2 PLO game. Gets more people(fish) involved to play PLO. How about HORSE also?

Re: PARX Poker Thread

I think we've discussed the security thing and the limit vs no-limit enough now. Let's discuss something else... I agree with whoever said the security discussion can only scare away potential casual players so it's not worth continuing discussion. (I've only been there once and only plan to go once a week or so since I have a full time job, so I'm in the "casual player" base myself.)

Let's discuss things about the actual room itself. Things that would be nice to see posts about in the future are:
1. Periodic game reports
2. New info on the expansion(s) of the room.
3. New info on any changes (like when the water become free, or the rake changed to no-flop no drop
4. Giveaways (like the free hat)
5. Info on when/if the comp system works
etc

Anyway, just my opinion that continuing the other discussions is not helpful.

Any chance of getting the 8/16 o8 off instead of the 4/8? Seems like the same names on both lists.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

Just a heads-up on the comp system at Parx. It SUX!!! There is no carry over for any comps you may have not used. In other words...slot players get x amount of dollars for October, say $50. If you give them no play in that month,or a limited amount of play, you loose that $50. A.C. allows you to carry it over for 90 days without any play.I kinda doubt that its gonna be different for poker.

Parx Casino really stinks when it comes to comps.

It's been reported that Parx IT is working on live game reports on their web site... ETA ?

2. New info on the expansion(s) of the room.

Around 50-ish tables end of December, around 60-ish tables February +/-

3. New info on any changes (like when the water become free, or the rake changed to no-flop no drop

Bottled Water = FREE
No-Flop/No-Drop = YES

4. Giveaways (like the free hat)

Only when you first get your card.

5. Info on when/if the comp system works.

No idea.

Anyway, just my opinion that continuing the other discussions is not helpful.

Parx 4-8 stud is getting good traction, because it was set up as an "action game"... $1 ante and $1 (or is it $2?) bring-in. Hell, I'd even play in that game

No one (under 80) knows how to play that game correctly

Another example of getting it "right"!

I would just like to say the beginning dealers are getting much better but still need some improvement.
The $2 chips in the 2/5 nl are annoying and I hope $2 chips will not be in 2/5nl games.

$2 chips in 1/2 drove me insane. Every single person at the table seemed to hate them as well. Can we just get rid of them?

Re: PARX Poker Thread

IMO, the games should be chipped as follows:

1-2NL: $1, $5, $25 $100 & cash ($100's only).

2-5NL: $1, $5, $25, $100 & cash ($100's only).

4-8 Limit games: $1 (4chip/8chip) primarily. Cash plays, but only $100's. Make people break reds & blues.

8-16 Limit games: $2 (4chip/8chip) primarily. Cash plays, but only $100's. Make people break reds & blues.

15-30 Limit games: $5, $25, $100 & cash ($100's only)

30-60 Limit games: $10, (they don't have them), $25 and cash ($100's only)

Posting signs at the cage instructing people to buy the appropriate chips for their intneded games would help. As would, teaching chip runners to dispense the correct chip color for the game.

Once you get the routine down - people will adjust and comply. Now is the time to get this started, before bad habits continue.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

I Don't so much mind them in 4/8, and think they would at least like to get more than one games use out of them. (concerning blue chips)

I am guessing there are some regulations preventing cash from playing in the pot, so I don't think they will ever fully sanction it. The workaround seems to be someone at the table selling chips and converting the cash from the transaction to chips at the earliest convenience. I wish it was allowed also, but they seem to be pushing back pretty solidly on this I think their hands are tied.

Other than these items I agree 100%.

UPDATE: They made a great change after some simple feedback for time games yesterday. Time is now dropped immediately after being collected. No more holding it on the table for 10 minutes to charge folks who sit down late. Very nice tip of the hat in the players favor. Now all we need is a floor to follow directly behind the downs on time games to drop it right away so it doesn't sit on the table getting in the dealers way.

Wednesday night I waited about an hour then just basically jumped in. The standard move seems to be people wait 20 seconds after a name is called and then just claim it. "Yeah, I'm Mike R.", etc...

Annoying, but will only be an issue for another couple months til they expand. In my estimation, only about 10% of the 1/2 names called actually ended up being the person who put their name in. 60% of them got a last call and were skipped, the other 30% were random people claiming to be the name called. I figure I'll just do the same for the next 2 months. Don't like it, but that's how it is if you want to sit within 2 hours.

FYI - I believe it is currently against PA Gaming rules for cash to play on poker tables. Plus why cant you just buy chips insteap of cash?

Cash played at Rivers casino in Pittsburgh ($100 bills only), so not a PAGC rule.
