According to this article from the Philadelphia Inquirer, it has only been 1 day since the legislature approved table games, but parx has already set the wheels in motion on table games:

“Operators at venues such as Philadelphia Park Casino & Racetrack in Bensalem began making phone calls last night to set in motion plans to install games and boost staffing.”

This is great news for all of us – hopefully with their deep pockets they can be the first casino to be up and running with Poker in Pennsylvania.

Oh well, come on SugarHouse on Columbus Blvd. in Phila. Perhaps, that will draw a better clientel.

Looks like my trips to the Borg will not slow down until that place opens <sigh>.
A multi-year battle to get table games in our state, and now we're going to nitpick as to where the tables will be?

That's poker, all right.

The old racetrack building is disconnected from the new upscale casino significantly enough, so that you probably will NOT get any traffic from the casino and many (most/all) people that are going to the CASINO will never go to the racetrack.

Those that will are not the player base that you want to play with. Like I said, it will be 99.999% degens (worse than the Taj) and many/most/all will be playing while reading the racing form, getting up every 5 minutes to go place bets. It will be a nit-fest - at best.

While that may be somewhat successful for the house, as I'd expect many players will attend (and paying rake) - for a poker player, it's not the most profitable lineup.

And, the building itself is a dump.

I'll check it out - of course. but, I won't be surprised at what I'll find.

I'd set the line that Parx has cards in the air on/before June 15th. Others will take longer, as many have NOT been as proactive in planning.

But it's not really nit-picking. What's the point of winning the war when you set yourself up to lose the peace?

I heard yesterday that Harrah's Chester was already in the process of setting up requisitions to hire 100-300 dealers, so although wehaven't heard from them on their plans for a room, I wouldn't imagine they would be far behind.

Guys, come on. Baby steps. You really didn't expect everything to be exactly how you wanted it, did you? If the rooms are allowed to freely compete then the market demands will eventually win out.

Patience, grasshopper.

Oh, yea... agreed. Let's see what happens. The fact that anything is happening is a win.

this is exciting news for the new year! i still really like going to ac (for free, at least), as it represents a nice little escape from my daily life, but having a spot five minutes from me is going to be amazing.

It will be a while yet - probably at least mid-year. Delaware passed their table game law last summer, and are still miles from being ready. However, their's is being held up by politicians who want to add more casinos vs. those who don't, so I do expect PA to move fast since it's tied so directly to budget.

I just wanted to make a thread for PARX poker only. It's the only PA casino close to Philly, and would be my home base. All the other PA casinos are way North and West of my location.

So if anyone has any PARX updates let's use this thread.

Here's hoping for a quick introduction of Poker at PARX!!

that is all

How about Harrah's in Chester? That's pretty close as well. In any event, it will be a few months yet (seems like they are heading for July as a target month for table games and poker) before there is anything to talk about here.

Thread is premature.

You're right Harrahs is close as well. I live in Burlington, NJ so PARX is 15 minutes away, while Harrahs is about an hour away. I'll definately be going to Harrahs if they have poker as it is still closer for me than AC.

I'm just using this thread because in their table games petition PARX did not mention poker. So if anyone gets any updates on PARX poker place them here.

that is all

I decided to revisit this thread, and I made a call to Parx to see if they had any updates on the situation. As expected, I wasn't really given any concrete info, but the woman did say that the PR dept. was preparing to issue a statement within the next month on when they would officially open the tables for the poker room. She also did say it is a definite development, and I believe they're in the process of staffing the dealers right now, so it should be coming in the next couple months. Looking forward to this for sure, but I don't know how much appeal it will have to me in the summer when I'd rather be near the water... even if it means another hour or so on the road.

purphazed thanks for the update. I too am looking forward to checking out this new room. The Borgata will probably still be my main room, but it will be nice to be able to play some live poker without having to deal with summer beach traffic.

Check the PA Table games subject in Poker Legislation. I, among others, have been keeping tabs on all the petitions that the casinos must file with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, all available here, http://www.pgcb.state.pa.us/?p=170, all of which contain complete breakdowns of what table games each casino is wishing to install.

So far, Parx has not petitioned for any poker tables. Their petitions speak of a "Phase 1" which involved the pit games. There's no sign of when "Phase 2" would occur.

I heard on KYW this morning that PARX was approved for something like 37 Blackjack tables, 4 craps tables, 3 3-card poker tables and 4 baccarat tables, (there may have been 3 tables of another game).

There was NO mention of poker tables or poker room which put the rest of my drive to work on complete tilt.

Hopefully they're saving the poker room announcement so it's a big deal, right? right?

I'ld heard that Harrah's/chester is aiming for July. Sounds about right, from what's been in the news.

Here's an article from KYW about what you heard. This DOES sound disappointing... If Parx is not going to have a poker room it will be a big mistake. If not I guess I will have to go to Harrah's Chester and Sands Bethlehem...

I actually picked the phone up and called Parx sometime last week and was informed that they will indeed have poker tables, and are aiming for them to start rolling out in the upcoming months. The woman I spoke with was not able to give me specific details but told me to stay on the lookout for news releases as they would be announcing the specific date sometime soon... so I don't think you guys have anything to worry about.

Did this lady specify "poker tables" as in a "poker room?" Otherwise she may have been referring to 3-Card Poker, that ridiculous Texas Hold'em table game, etc.

Aye, I went out there recently and every person I asked about this on the floor did not understand the difference between the two. From following as closely as is possible from an outsider viewpoint it really looks like they are planning the poker room for an upgraded section of the racetrack building in a "phase 2" upgrade. Which is likely some time off. Sad news indeed.

Maybe you should have asked when they plan on petitioning for poker tables.

http://www.pgcb.state.pa.us/?p=170

Although they do list that they are hiring a poker manager.
