Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

I'm thinking these will be phased in on tables that aren't in use, then move the games gradually to the tables that have been refelted until they are all done.

it doesnt take a genius to figure out the solution. there are a ton of tables they aren't using. start now on those tables.

but like i said, i love the 7 handed, so i hope they drag their feet for a long time

I guess Iím one of the rare ones that prefers 9 handed. I like more players at the table and it brings a sense of normalcy to me. Just like poker without masks and plexiglass. To each itís own.

Yesterday, floor told me they hope to have plexi removal completed sometime next week. Once table felt repair/replace is done, there will be a return to 9-handed.

Masks still not required (if you are vaccinated?).

8 tables in high limit section are now open, refelted, and 9 handed.

Rest are still plexied up, but in process.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

I spoke with a parx dealer in Vegas that was playing tournaments (he deals at parx) and he said they are currently short w/ dealer #s. He said they might try to run some small tournies but big stax could be quite far away. Not sure how true this is but hoping big stax comes back sooner rather than later. I donít have my hopes up for this.

I was there over the weekend and heard a dealer saying as well they are short dealers. The manager literally was calling up everyone he/she could to deal. There were empty tables on Saturday for sure, and the lists were very long. (I waited five hours for my 10/10 NL seat, three and a half hours for my 2/5 NL seat. I could have flown to Florida and been playing faster probably. They thought Memorial Day weekend was not going to be busy, everyone would want to go to the beach or outside, etc., but it was raining). I think I heard the dealer also say they have about 30 people in dealer school right now. The 9 handed tables will help, but until they get more dealers, there still will be waits. Masks are not required for vaccinated people. I was surprised how many people were wearing masks, maybe 40-50%?

They're super short on dealers and have been for months

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

The biggest reason for the dealer shortage is unemployment. They are having a ton of problems getting their dealers back off of unemployment. This is from a reliable source there who seemed adamant that was the biggest issue by far.

I wonder if the unemployment situation is worse at Parx compared to other casinos because they force the dealers to get all tips counted and paid by check. Which means they pay tax on 100% of their tips. Meaning if they got on unemployment they would pretty much be getting their full salary to sit home with little incentive to get back as long as the govt is paying them.

Whereas other casinos around the country where the tips aren't paid by check. Some dealers may only been claiming 50% of their income for taxes, so their unemployment benefits would only be half what they made dealing, so they have incentive to go back.

Max unemployment in PA is $580/week + 300/week from feds is only $45,760/year.

Max unemployment in NJ is $731/week + fed unemployment is $53,612/year

Idk what the average dealers makes, but those seem low

Although some dealers might prefer to not work, I do know plenty of dealers that have moved on to different industries.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

first $10K of the unemployment is not taxable so it corresponds to a higher salary plus might qualify you for other government benefits that otherwise would not be accessible if you're working

add work related expenses like lunches gas tolls etc not to mention stress dealing with poker players on a daily basis and I don't see why any dealer who's making less than $80K in a regular year would want to go back to work

mod: I don't mind mentioning unemployment as it relates to Parx dealers and a possible reason for a dealer shortage, but please let's not get into a general debate about unemployment benefits and the general political/economic discussion that goes along with it.

That can go in the containment thread, or one of the other forums here on 2+2 (politics, etc).

Thanks!

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

Update on the room after playing on June 5: about half the room has barriers removed. The center tables still have barriers, but the perimeter tables are back to 9 handed both to the left when you enter the room, as well as the high limit area.

It appears that 2-5 NL is on 9 handed tables (I was on one), and 1-3 is being put on the tables that are 7 handed with barriers remaining. I overheard a floor person say something like "I can't have a 1-3 table on a 9 handed table," so it appears that while the barriers remain, they will be limited to 1-3 NL.

So look for tournies and lower cash wait times the day after labor day basically

The BBJ $1 should taken at 10X the big blind. 2-5 regulars are being ripped off thousands of dollars per year. How hard is it to get this fixed?!

Six posts and at least four of them are you being a rake nit. You're a sock for one of those perpetual rake nits who got banned for being a rake nit, aren't you.
