Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

First reaction: the plexiglass is pretty minimal compared to other setups. There is a sheet between each player with black trim and a single strip of plexi running the length of the table a little inside of the betting line (with black trim).

All seats appear to have a full line of sight from their seat to the board without looking through any plexiglass.

Players are generally less enclosed which is nice for playing but possibly less safe(?)

Yes, 7-handed.

Call-ins allowed and drink service allowed in the poker room (unlike Rivers).

Drink service? Hmm I was going to go to Rivers on Wednesday but now maybe I'll trek to Parx

Is it true that if you are coming from a different state that you need a negative covid test within 72 hours to get into Pennsylvania or get it there and quarantine for 10 days? I would like to check Parx out as it’s the closest legal option for me. I would be coming from NYC and it’s only about an hour and 15 minutes drive for me to visit Parx as opposed to the 2 hour long drive to AC.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

That's just the state guidance, it's nothing that is being enforced. You're fine coming from NY, they just did a temp check with mask pulled down at the casino entrance which is pretty standard.

I think they were not serving alcohol in the poker room for some reason but they did have water and all the usual soda / coffee stuff.

Only complaint is they were pretty slow to fill empty seats especially since they have to wipe them down first, but that should get faster with experience.

Will be interesting to see the turnout / game variety on Tuesday since that was the action day in happier times.

The governor banned alcohol service in PA casinos before the holidays but I thought maybe it expired on Jan 4th.

lists moved pretty quickly for 1/3 and 2/5 last Saturday, didn't seem like lists got too far backed up.

They don't require proof of a negative test. Seats are what they are, the earlier you get there (esp on weekends) the better.

Live! Casino in Philadelphia is opening next week and full opening next month - I heard there's going to be poker there as well - will players be going there?

The casino/hotel doesn't look as big but looks like it'll be nicer than Parx. Rooms also look great with a lot of dining options.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

It will definitely have poker. My dealer friends say poker is opening 2/11.

I live on the north side past Parx, so I will almost never be going down there most likely, unless I happen to be going to an event at the stadium too. Or if my game (15-30) moves down there, but in that case I'm much more likely to just stop playing or only play every occasional at Borg. I know that some of the players in my pool are in the opposite boat as me and live down south, so I'm guessing they'll be agitating for the move, especially if Live tries to make them welcome there.

Having said that, I'm not going to any poker room until vaccine etc. so I doubt anyone really cares what I do or do not do. I did see that my game appeared to be going strong Tues day and night, so that is a good sign for me.

Seems it will pull from Harrahs more. Most everyone I meet at Parx are from NJ/NY.

+1 on the vaccine.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

I haven't seen the 6/12 OE running since the room reopened. Is this a Parx decision or did the player pool just decide a stud game with plexiglass dividers was a bad idea? Or have I been looking at the Bravo at the wrong times?

I saw it running at some point on Tuesday, but I dunno for how long, and it wasn't running from early morning as it historically has.

I went yesterday and I am pretty certain they were calling for 6/12 mid-afternoon. Overall I think they have done a respectable job making it a pleasant environment to play cards in.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

Thanks, I saw it was running today and I actually went out there to play.

I called in and happened to be first on the list by the time I got there. He said he would text me so I wandered around for a few minutes, came back, and some guys waiting were like, "Are you BKO? They called you. Hurry, it was the third call." Never did get a text.

Got my seat. Friendly table, for some reason more talkative than other casinos I played at (and dealyt in) with plexiglass. I played $1/3 from around 12:30 for about three hours. Dropped $100, mostly because my Kings lost to AK - had I played the hand differently I could have won or lost much more so...

I jumped into the $6-12 game and it was fun even though I could not make a hand most of the time. Two times in a row in Omaha I started with AA2x with one suit and had to fold on the turn both times with unhelpful boards. Fortunately I scooped with a wheel on a kill pot in the penultimate hand I played and left down the same $100 I was before (so I broke even).

One person told me they had no alcohol and another said I could drink in Chickie & Pete's but I had to eat something; neither scenario excited me. I like a beer when I play. I actually didn't even get a water in my time there - I hit the head when I switched games but otherwise didn't get up from either table in six hours of playing.

In other rooms seats stayed open too long so kudos to the Parx folks for ensuring that tables were not even shorter than they could have been. Also, I was able to see the down cards just fine even with the barriers.
