There are fewer high hands since Parx drops $5+1 instead of $5+2 at Sugarhouse/Harrahs/Bethlehem.

Was just looking at Bravo, and apparently Parx's BBJ finally hit yesterday (first time since April, I believe), for almost $260k. It only dropped back down to $200k, so clearly they have an excess of money in the promotional fund, even if they're only dropping $1. Seems crazy that the BBJ only dropped $60k.

They have 2 (or maybe even 3) backup BBJs always being funded so that after it gets hit it doesn't drop back down to $20k or whatever. A long time ago they shared the formula with me, it varied over time as the different backups reached different levels.

So think of it this way. Out of every $1 promo drop, some amount (say 25c, but realize I'm making this up for the illustration) goes to the promo fund for high hands and other promos, and the other 75c gets split between the 3-4 BBJ funds that exist. If the primary BBJ is low, then most will go into it until it gets up to a certain level (say $100,000, though I am making that up too). Then the larger part will get diverted into the 2nd BBJ jackpot until it gets to that level. Then the third. And if by some chance all of them make it to that level, then they all start getting funded equally. So the main one is always biggest, the others catch up over time.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the info!

Question for the more savvy players out there: How would one extract the most value from an inordinate amount of comps that are set to expire at Parx? I unfortunately cannot buy gift cards from Chickie's with comps, so are there any ideas out there, preferably from experience? Does the gift shop have anything valuable, or just knick-knacks emblazoned with Parx logos?

I will have a few hundred, so definitely more than a dinner and drinks' worth.

I don't know the options @Parx for spending them, but I have regularly purchased comp dollars from players at Foxwoods, Taj Mahal and Borgata. I have paid as high as $.80 at FW to pay my hotel bill, saving me $200-$300 a trip.

Once I paid a pit player who had $30,000 worth of FW comps 20 cents on the dollar (he was desperate to get the 6K to get back at the Asian table games). I purchased a $28,000.00 3 carat diamond pinkie ring for my husband and a pair of gold hoops for me for the 6K. The diamond in that ring is spectacular. I also saved thousands using comps to purchase goods in FW luggage store.

At the Taj, I used to buy luxury handbags 25 cents on the dollar with purchased player comps. I would go pick out the items I wanted, once a gorgeous Coach leather carry on bag that I still have, other designer bags, etc. Then the player with the comps would come to the store to finish the transaction. Taj would overprice everything by at least 50% so I still made a good deal at 25 cents per dollar. Also I would have my family come in from Philly and host up to 30 people at their Italian restaurant or at their expensive Sunday buffet in their gourmet restaurant with purchased comps.

Make sure you know exactly what can be purchased with comps and then get the message out, only to players you trust, that you have some up for sale. Btw, management frowns on this black market operation hence "only to players you trust".

Good luck at the tables.

Coming from ignorance but I doubt Parx has anything of high value.

Best guess is take 10 friends to the gastropub?

Not sure who to talk to. But they should have a 5-10 game. Not sure why they don't. Maybe the demand isn't there.

Is the Sunday tournament going on today? Wasn't sure if they have it cause the big stax is still going on today around the same time.

You aren’t missing much. Half decent craft beer selection but nothing that isn’t available in 100 other places. Mediocre food, small portions, especially for the price.

As for what’s available craft-wise in the poker room, I don’t know.

Parx is cheap af. Cause of the big stax they don't have a high hand promo. Hit quads today and thought I was rolling in $$$. I mean doesn't part of the rake go towards the high hands when they run it? So the players are basically funding it. I could be wrong

If they are not taking the promotional drop that would make sense. If they are still raking the game while not allowing it to hit promos, that seems like a legitimate grievance.

They still have the bbj. So they rake for that. I just thought the rake also goes towards the high hands. Is what it is

Oh, if they just killed the promo but the table is still BBJ eligible, you're out of luck.

Wasn't aware that was an angry post. Just curious why they don't run it during the big stax.

They don’t need to. Room fills up anyway. Then they can use those dollars on the off months to make bigger/more frequent promos the rest of the time

I guess. The anniversary one is the worst. Every 15 min. They need to move that day to the other building. List are like 100 deep

I wouldn't call that cheap, it's just how business is run. Most casinos decrease the promos during tournaments, otherwise the room gets overfilled. Besides, it's better for the regs when traveling tournament players who are playing cash don't become eligible for the promo funds that they barely contributed to.

Someone doesn’t understand how the promo money drop works— the casino must give it all back via jackpots, hot hands, etc (less some small admin fee- probably in the 2-3% range).

They can’t be “cheap”. They are free to choose on which jackpot rules and promotions and when those are active.

The only "craft" beer they bring to the poker room is Goose Island IPA for $6.

But Liberty Bell has happy hour specials from 9-11, and they'll let you take out a small menu of $4 craft beers and $6 cocktails in actual glass--if you know the bartenders a little and management isn't cracking down. Do this and play PLO; it is excellent.

Jumped on Bravo last night and noticed 4 10/10 NL games going. Is this normal for a weekday night?! Seems like a lot. Poker Atlas says buy in is $500-2k. I thought it was up to $3k?
