I've a stupid question here. What's the best way to get to valet parking?

enter via Casino Way off Street rd and follow the signs.

or follow the signs from whatever entrance is convenient for you. the signage makes it obvious.

SANDS, PARX, or ELSEWHERE?

I’m traveling from Lancaster, PA to NYC next week and am looking for a good spot to stop Friday evening through Sunday morning for poker. I’m looking for either a good, deep 1-2/3 or 2/5 game in a reasonably nice environment. I’d like to stay nearby in a okay hotel ($100-$150 per night kinda place). If available, I might treat myself to a massage but this isn’t a deciding factor. Otherwise, I’m just looking to play poker and find a not awful meal. I’m a non smoker but have learned to live with a certain amount of second hand smoke entering smoke free poker rooms fro other parts of my home casino.

Between Sands and Parx, which fits my needs best? Should I co spider other places?

Thanks!

Definitely not Sands. I've played in rooms all over the country and Parx is one of there best. If you want deep action filled games than Parx is your spot. There's hotels right there that all offer discounts. Smoke is not a big issue there. Sands is not a great room period IMO. Parx 1/2 can play like 2/5 at some places. Sands 1/2 can play like a glorified 2/4LH. Easy choice.

I agree with the above post Parx is the GTO choice. Ever since Sands move poker to it's own room it's too loud, too smoky, and beside the players pool are just better at Parx .

agree with the parx recommendations. also the 1/3 game there is the best for deep and juicy action

Going to Parx for the first time this friday for the parx 300,, i'm leaving holland tunnel area (chinatown/tribeca) nyc for their 10am start time (wtf, ill probably show up around 11), what's the approximate driving time for those of you that have made the trip in the morning reverse commuting , from tunnel to parx?
Also, if anyone wants to hitch a ride , i plan on leaving this friday morning , and returning later on that night, probably going to skip cash games unless i bust out early.

i tried looking into buses that head out there, but the only ones seem to go into center city philly and getting to parx from there seems a bit tedious. any pro move mass transit routes?

Was playing PLO over the weekend and two players who are new to Parx mentioned that they have a difficult time finding the poker room even after asking for directions from 4 different people they we're instructed to go to the old room. The signage from the parking lot are not very helpful.

Ask where the event center is. Poker room is just to the right of that area.

I've driven from Brooklyn to PARX and also taken transit there from Midtown. I'd prefer the train if I was looking to arrive on a Friday at 11am. Tolls are pretty high as discussed in this thread recently but maybe it's better if you're taking the Holland Tunnel vs going through Staten Island like I did.

To get to this tourney without driving, you could get on the 9:04am NJ Transit Northeast Corridor line at Penn Station, take it all the way to Trenton. Then get on the SEPTA train across the platform that leaves at 10:43am heading towards center city Philadelphia. Get off a couple stops later at Eddington, and grab a quick Uber to cover the last 2 miles to Parx, you'll be there by 11:15am. And that'll set you back about $32 each way

Thanks for the detailed instructions ! I am still deciding what is my best option , alternatively I had a friend tell me that the chinatown bus to Philadelphia runs every hour on the hour (18 rt) and then taxi/Uber or take septa up to parx. I most likely will drive myself Wednesday or Friday. Cost is not fully the concern , it was more about avoiding traffic , but leaving the city around 8-9am should not be a problem and getting near philly after 10am should be fine too. Thanks for the info though.

The tournament will be held in the old poker room and not in the new one next to the event center. It's the stand alone building call Parx East if you are driving there, once you get off Street Road and make the left turn into the Casino just keep going left and you will see it.

Re: the Chinatown bus to Philly option, I wouldn't recommend it for this trip. Such a pain to have to go all the way into Philly city center, then transit back out to PARX. The real upside to the train route I outlined is that it's pretty damn direct. Like if you were trying to leave NYC at say 4pm when traffic is at it's worst both places, taking NJ transit/SEPTA/Uber would legit be faster than driving. At 8am like you said, it's something of a reverse commute, but having grown up driving outside of this mess of roads we call NYC, I still consider that traffic to be pretty unpalatable. I guess I really would only prefer driving NYC<->PARX over taking the train, at definitively off peak times, like the middle of the night.

yeah,, ideally driving is probably my best option,, the reason i was considering the bus was so that i can sleep on the way over to philly (and back possibly) , but its at 80% im driving over on friday.

When we go up to the city we take the NJ regional rail from Hamilton station to NY penn station. Imagine you could do the reverse then Uber. Train is $30 round trip I think.

I am actually doing the train from Penn around 2pm on Friday and done it a few times and it's awesome. You can drink, play poker on the way, and it a nice comfy ride.

I either take NJ Transit to Trenton and an Uber from there. It's $16 to Trenton and about a $20 Uber from there.

Or you can get the SEPTA train to Eddington or Croydon and it's about a $5 Uber from there. So you probably save about $10-$15 by doing this way. I usually prefer to take the Uber from Trenton though because I'm lazy and don't care about money.

Thanks for the info guys. Decided to drive in since it was me and a buddy. Left the Holland tunnel at 840. Got in at parking lot at 10:10. Hour and thirty on the dot. Not bad at all.

Are there any cash game over in Parx East or is it strictly in the new room?

New room only. Bigger tourneys over there but that’s it.

Lol I'm going straight to 6/12 actually. Wanna grab a beer? Two of my buddies are headed down around 8 but in solo until then. Hopefully you make it deep and it won't be until later.

Ha. I'll pass by that table. I'll be wearing a Roberto Clemente shirt and a met hat. My friend Benny I think is playing that 6-12 game

Haha.

I'm growing a turquoise blue shirt over-the-ear headphones and a hat that says Ass Clown Brewery. Just got to the casino, getting food, will sit down soon.
