Which is the best area of the city to stay in if I am visiting for 4-5 days and want to play at Parx and Sugarhouse and will also be sight seeing in the city during the day with my wife?

Im guessing the east side of of downtown? Not sure if thats a good area or not since Ive never been to Philly. Is there a nice area to stay that's somewhere to the east of the downtown area but west of Parx?

Hahah MikeStarr, let me know when you're playing at SugarHouses - I've always wanted to play with a legend.

For places to stay, I recommend staying in Philly. If you stay in Old City/Northern Liberties/Fishtown you'll be very close to SugarHouse, with Parx a 25-30 minute drive on 95. Old City has more of historical stuff and keeps you close to the good restaurants downtime.

Make sure you see the Barnes Foundation unless you hate art/impressionism, it is a very impressive collection.

We will be sightseeing during the day in Philly and Ill be playing poker in the evening. Im not sure if its best to stay downtown and drive to Parx in the evening...or stay in Bensalem and drive to Phlly to sightsee during the day.

I have no idea what kind of area Bensalem is but obviously the hotels in downtown Philly are a lot more expensive and parking is probably a killler also.

We will be there around Apr18-Apr23

Driving in and out of the city during rush hour is very frustrating. It depends on what sort of experience you're looking for, you could rent an air bnb in Philly for relatively cheap and mostly walk around / take the subway (or take a lyft).

It depends on what you want to do. Parking in Center City is expensive, but you could pay $10-15 a day for a lot right outside China Town, and take a quick walk to there or Redding Terminal Market or wherever.

Unless things have changed drastically in the past 5 years:

Stay in Philly, Beth is not where you really want to stay. It's not a total ****hole, but it really doesn't offer much for someone visiting...aside from the casino.

Avoid staying in University City if you can help it. It's overpriced and ruled by Penn. It is however a great place to visit and Tap House is a must visit.

Bensalem is a non descript suburb. So if saving 100 or whatever hotel +parking is go for it. There are 2 different regional rain lines that take you into the city if need be. Uber is also maybe 30? Tops if you take train in and uber back to sugar shack or parx.

I suppose it casino visting is on list. You could more easily get to harrahs from downtown.... you could get to sands more easily from Bensalem.

Ya this is your best bet.
East of downtown = NJ. Old City where the Liberty Bell is the east part of the city and 95 is right there.

Played the new room for the first time this past Sunday and Monday. Have to say it came out much better than I thought. The location is great. I was puzzled however by the huge turnover in both dealers and cocktail waitresses. It was a plus for cocktail waitresses because the drink service was 100 times better than the old room but the dealers were worse. I never had a bad dealer in the old room but this time I ran into newbies that just sucked and were downright rude. In once instance my cousin had come to play a couple of hours and flopped the world in an O8 hand. He is old school so instead of just using chips he verbally says "bet" but the dealer though it was check. All hell broke loose and the floor's call was it was a check. He scooped but was annoyed and was talking to player next to him about it and the dealer took offense and said something along the lines of "You still going to talk about it?" We were all horrified and in my poker room he would have been fired on the spot.

It's a shame I also encountered many dealers who flat out sucked. Wonder why so many new dealers? But overall great room. Not happy you can't get tableside food 24/7 but what can you do.

dealer was in the wrong, but people who say "bet" always cause problems as a lot of people think it is a check

Just put out the money if it is a bet obviously

but people need to relax if all hell broke loose over $12

I know I said he is real old school but even so if said loud enough dealer should get it. This dealer was lazy and not paying attention. It was 4 way hand and the final pot was much bigger. I was just shocked at how mad this guy was and the influx of new dealers. Where did the old ones go?

I hear ya bro but players are often confused too. Maybe it’s why all hell broke lose. Though I hate it when players know what the guy said and try to get by on a technicality.

They killed and buried many of the old dealers in the infield of the racetrack

Sure can. You have an hour to show and check in after you call.

I like the new room, bright, clean and actually doesn't smell stink of cigarettes.

Well thanks for the info Dinesh. I was able to get a box based on the limits I play. It is very reassuring to know I don't have to leave the casino with large amounts of cash on me.

Was impressed with how nice the new room is. It reminds me of a smaller Borgata poker room, in a sense.

Maybe because I played in old room furthest from bar but...old room never had issue and new room is so Smokey it factors in me not playing there.

Any read on the change in start time for the Saturday $200 tournament to 11:15 a.m.? What has been the ending time for those tournaments? Did they change the structure sheet also in order to get it done by 6:00, or does it still drag on late into the evening?

How much are the tolls roundtrip with EZ pass Brooklyn - PARX ?

About $45 using GW both ways. You can save about $10 using i287 & Tappan Zee bridge coming back north.

Well the Verrazano is going to cost you $11.50. Turnpike is going to cost you about $7 each way. Crossing into PA turnpike there’s a toll for a bridge which I believe is around 5$ and quick toll right after that getting off to goto parx which I’m not sure the price. Would assume $1-2. Then crossing back into NY using the Goethals or outerbridge I believe is all around $11. I would say around 35 bucks.

Sands would probably be cheaper if you wanted to pay less in tolls since there are none on 78. It’s the main reason I choose sands over parx coming from Staten Island. Only pay $1 going into PA and one on the outerbridge on the way back.

i pay about 35 bucks in toll rape round trip to nyc
45 sounds way high - i'm not sure if the poster forget you only pay the gwb coming into the city.
as someone pointed out to sands it's a lot cheaper
i think i just pay the gwb and some dollar toll

For me Parx is about 20 miles more in distance compare to Sand, but time wise it's about the same.
I choose Parx because it is less stressful driving.
It's true you paid more for toll but that's offset by better game selection at Parx.
Also breathing in second hand smoke sure will be negative ev in the long run.

i agree
it would be nice if sands got the action parx gets but they don't.
