I've never had a reason to use them, so I have no idea if they're still active, but http://parxpokerblog.com/where-to-stay/

There's an extended stay across the street from parx. It's $59 a night with the parx poker code. It's nothing special but if you're just looking for a place to sleep it's sufficient. I have stayed there on several occasions.

re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

i lived at the extended stay in vegas 2 months at flamingo and algonquin near maryland parkway. not the best area outside but safe inside, great wifi, interior hallways instead of exterior. never a problem and the fridge was HUGE. im sure its the same all over.

but of course higher prices. i had the $965 craigslist monthly special, and ALL of their locations require a 60 day commitment if u want a special price. im sure PA has one too, but i have no idea how much. i did discover the one here nearer maryland live is $1653 a month. but of course, u cannot take just a month or u will be charged the much higher nightly price, u must commit to 60 days and book thru the extended stay program.

paying daily just costs too much

He is looking to stay for a week, so $59 is great. Only alternative is to priceline if you can narrow down the hotel region close enough to the hotel that works.

Thanks for the reply guys!

I think I will book a room over at Extended Stay since they are affordable and the most reasonable. They have rooms that are discounted for poker players and it's in a prime location.

I'm a rec player...I don't think I'll be renting for 2 months lol

Parx doesn't spread 5/10 NL (sadly). Only 10/10 NL. If you want 5/10NL try Sands.

While this is the case almost always, Parx did spread 5-10 about 2 weeks ago. The players agreed to play a raked game to be eligible for the bad beat.

Wouldn't they end up paying like a ton more rake that way? I don't actually know how much the time charge is but assuming the take is 5+1 all I can say is wow, why would they want to do that?

Anyway I'm on break from school now so I'll likely come play at Parx soon. Maybe tomorrow!

Whoa seriously? Maybe that can be a regular game now? Can you just tell the floor you want to play and they will start a list for it again?

Lol at changing the stakes to be BBJ eligible. Pretty sure that it would have to get well over $500k to be +ev.

House or apartment? Are schools important because you have children?

I'd just move as close to SugarHouse as possible. You are then halfway between Parx and Harrah's Chester and near SugarHouse. Best of all worlds.

If I was moving, this would be option 1 for me. Instead, I am stuck closest to Harrah's and go to Parx only once in a while.

It can be a house or apt. No kids. I have been looking @ room shares on craigs list. Isn't Sugar house a bad area to live? I know nothing about city of Philly, so what is a safe city close to Sugar House? Is center city to far. Also I do not want to struggle with parking?

I'm sure others know the areas a lot better than me, but FWIW, in that general area near Sugarhouse, look at the Fishtown and Northern Liberties neighborhoods.

Fishtown is still a little rough (so probably a bit cheaper) but seems to be coming around. Might be rougher than you'd like right now though. I know folks who love it and folks who hate it.

Northern Liberties has a lot of hipster, young professional types and is probably a bit more "desirable" right now. Maybe you'd find a roomshare there easier than anywhere else. Those two get you close to Sugarhouse and the city, and you are smack between Parx and Chester.

Anywhere in Philly, parking will be a pain until you get out into the suburbs.

Good luck.

lol wow what a group of dumbasses. or more likely, this was agreed to to accommodate a few especially fun players.

10/10 and 5/10 are the same game just 10/10 has a deeper buyin. it isn't actually higher stakes.

there will be plenty of 10/10 at parx on tuesdays.

List looks fantastic tonight 40ish tables--8/16 O8 going with a list behind, 10/20 OE big list, tons of games and variety.

Sadly, my chance of making it out is 0%

re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

Played a couple of hours of the 5-0 PLO yesterday, was lucky to hit a draw against the only fun player at the table to book a small win.

The thing that really struck me was how all the competent players (of which there were 7 out of 9, followed by 7 out of 8 when the only other fun player lady busted out and quit) were discussing their solid (and at timed advanced) street-by-street thought process after EVERY hand. Someone could be a terribad PLO player and, after listening to this sewing circle for two hours, become a super solid player.

You guys are killing your own game. Let the players play the way they want without being analyzed. Let people get freerolled for 200bb stacks and let them believe they got unlucky. In a word, shutup.

Actually, do not shut up - talk about sports, politics, current events, anything but why you played your hand the way you did on a street-by-street basis and whether it was the optimal line.

The players who play the 5-0 game and the 5-5 PLO are generally social misfits who find it hard to communicate to anything that doesn't play the optimum PLO strategy. They make the game no fun and don't understand how uncomfortable it makes the fish when they speak poorly of their play. They tap the glass more then anything and we lose PLO players. I started a 2-2 PLO game (actually 1-2 b/c 2-2 wasn't approved by the commission) and they 5-0 players went ballistic. Within a month the poker director stopped allowing 1-2 PLO. The 5-0/5-5 group just doesn't get it, they never will and it's a shame. My hope was to get people more comfortable in a relaxed atmosphere playing a game they want to play (and make some nice profit). I was successful but the social misfits would rather not launch a game then generate new players, even if it is to the long term detriment of the 5-0/5-5 games. The real fault with this is the room manager. I'm in the minority but i vote with my feet and have entered the room once since.... Play online, or frequent an establishment that actually has an idea about customer service and the future of the game.

You should try the sugarhouse 1/2 when it runs, it is the opposite of this. People showing their cards, throwing the dealer a red chip every hand, drinking, just having a good time. Often pulls in a couple players who have never played PLO before because the table seems like so much fun.

I started the 1/2 PLO8 while I was in the tournament and it's ACTH running. I just busted out of the tournament so I'm over at table 13 just waiting for my seat to open if anyone wants to say hi or join in.

re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP

FWIW, if you go there on the right day and start it, this game actually runs. I started the list for it at around 130, and when I was in the tournament I noticed that it had ran without me. So I eventually got myself on the list, and enough people noticed that we started a must move game around 530, which quickly moved to 5/0. Since the other players at the table were talking about switching to PLO/PLO8 rotation, I volunteered to move to the 1/2 PLO8 which now had one seat open just so they had the option, since I was the only one who didn't want to play PLO.

Eventually both games merged and we decided to switch to 5/0. There was a ton of maintenance that the floor had to put into these games, because the players weren't concise about what games/limits we were playing, but they handled it well. The game broke around 12:10, and I headed home. I will say that I would have had a great time if I wasn't running absolutely dead (and therefore basically just slowly chipped down the whole day with only a few pots won.)
