There used to be an Asian bus line that made a couple of runs from Manhattan each day, but the Feds put a lot of those companies out of business a few years ago.

The Parx website doesn't list any bus lines other than the local ones.

Yeah this sucks because a.c. Is too far. I like the parx 1/2 i feel very comfortable there because there are a lot of older players taking it easy just playing solid poker, it's very easy for me at least to make money there.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no buses running from NYC to Parx.

The best mass transit option seems to be NJT to Septa to bus/cab, or skip Septa and cab it from Trenton. Definitely workable if you don't have a car and don't mind trains and transfers, but not simple or easy.

... and prohibitively expensive.

OP should look into the Sands. Shorter trip than either AC or CT. Plenty of soft 1/2 action.

Parx stopped doing business with the NYC bus operator because, after giving the bus players free play vouchers and food comps, they weren't really making any money off of them The buses would come to Parx East (poker building) and most of the players would team up with their free play vouchers and make equal opposing bets on roulette (red/black, odd/even, etc) and baccarat (player/banker) so that one bet would always win unless, of course, 0/00 hit on roulette. Once the vouchers ran out they would split their winnings and wait for the next bus back to NYC. Once they got back to NYC they would catch the next bus to Parx, rinse/repeat etc...

It finally got to the point where the cost of running the table games there just wasn't worth it so they just shut them down.

I saw this somewhere (Sands thread?).

http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news...t-for-a-living

Talk about law of unintended consequences.

Have wondered why someone doesnt run a shuttle from Trenton or Hamilton Station to Parx. That would be an easy commute from NYC.

Anyone here played in the Wednesday afternoon tournament here yesterday? Or 1/2 yesterday evening?

Wow what a horrible life. My regular place to play is Sands. I always knew something had to be going on when there are hundreds of people waiting for the bus on a Tuesday night. Had no idea it was this bad but it makes so much sense.

NO.

The tables in Parx East were shut down after the authorities shut down the buses. They was no point having those tables there because there were no degenerates there to lose every penny in their pocket after playing their match plays.

And BTW, 0/00 really do come up on the roulette wheel.

I was in table games at the time and was told by an assistant shift manager what was going on back when it happened, it had been in discussion for months but I suppose an outsider would have better info than the people who worked there...

And as far as 0/00 really coming up on roulette, I guess after dealing roulette for 20+ years there is still something new for me to learn about the game. Go figure..

His point is that betting 1 unit on red and 1 unit on black is still -EV. A lot of dealers at various games don't know the true odds anyway though so we'll give you a pass.

For what it's worth, I don't have definitive info, but I was also led to believe that they were considering ending the buses before the great governmental crackdown, because it wasn't clear that they were adding to the bottom line at all after all the comps and incentives were considered. The accidents and shutdowns were probably more coincidental or contributory than being the definitive reason that the buses stopped running.

But again, take this with a grain of salt, since I offer no proof one way or another.

Interesting, the 90s were actually the pinnacle of 2nd hand smoke propaganda about how it was so harmful.
The more recent studies based on actual science acknowledge they were FoS.

Dozens of vehicles involved in a pile-up on the Tpk eastbound just approaching the Parx exit. Quite a mess, will likely take all day to get everyone out of there and get the road open. Thankfully sounds like injuries were surprisingly few and mild.

Updated data point: played yesterday. Did not overtly notice smoke at any time. Quickly threw on yesterday's shirt this morning, and yes, I did detect a hint of smoke odor, which surprised me.

I wouldn't say it was powerful, or would have been noticeable from any distance, but it was there.

This is an excellent example of a serious, evidence based line of argument.

Not.

According to this 2013 CDC rapport, referencing US medical research rapports publicized in the period 2003 - 2013, you're the one who's FoS.

But, OTOH, who believes a word published by a federal agency?
